1. Peavey MAXX pre amp

I've listed this before. Its a Peavey MAXX bass preamp.
Has two channels, one valve, one solid state. a variable crossover. lots of outputs and things. its rather cool - used it in a friends studio for a long time and it served well.
Its rather scratched on the top and bottom, but once its in a rack it looks ok. Just shows its age i guess. Its been looked after anyway.

But it must go. Not used it since about late 2005, so its sitting in a cupboard.

Looking for 150 quid, but am also looking for any one of the following:

Aguilar GS112 or GS112 NT - will poke some extra cash your way obviously
a Mixing desk, power amp or speakers that will do for a 3 piece pub band.

Cheers

2.
i have 550 to spend. not enough right?
Sadly not. I don't know if I'm being unreasonable asking for around the £800 mark. I dont really know what they're worth as I've only ever seen one other for sale, and thats on this site for £900...
But like I say - offers are welcome.
Also, offers in the shape of heads+cash or cab+cash or straight swap for head and cab would be rather interesting.

I'm looking for going towards a rig ideally like a lightweight head such as a Markbass Little Mark II, or one of the little Genz Benz jobbys, with a cab such as a 1x12 or 2x10 markbass or bergantino cab.

3. Markbass CMD 103H for sale. In Peterborough area. Lovely condition bar a bit of dust and a few hairs on the carpet...
Looking for around £800 but offers are nice.

****** Price drop - £700 ******

*********************************************** Price drop - £650? ********************************************

The amp is just too nice for what little amount of playing I am doing now, and deserves a life of trouser flapping fun.

4. He didnt say you SHOULDNT put a p-pickup in a fretless,
it came about because i mentioned to him that i was building and that i was originaly only going to put a single jazz pup at the bridge and no other pickups because on my current fretless (a squire mb4 that was my first bass, which had modified to make fretless) i like only using the j pickup at the bridge soloed.

I had been toying with the idea of putting a p/j set into it as i had just brought a set of basslines that i was going to use for another project, and i ended up routing the holes in my build to suit these pickups. I thought it would be a good idea as i could dial an extra bit of low in if i needed it.

He simply suggested that i use two j's as they would be better suited for my style for adding just a little more growl. Yes i agree that a solo'd p fretless does sound very nice indeed (thanks wateroftyne :) ).

anyway - im definately going to use j pickups as i have a set of fender ones lying around (were in a jazz that i loaded with barts, then ended swapping for another bass with nick), and ive used my basslines p/j set in my p bass, im saving the p that was originaly in that for another project, the warwick pups i have sound wa*k, and im not using the status soapbar or status MM that i have lying around just yet either! haha

Hello young Mr D!

Good to have you here! Actually Peterborough is an area famed for its bassness..let me extrapolate (ah, thats better!)

1. I was born here! Most important of course! Heheh!
2. Rex Gates (who plays in the band with Karl) who grew up locally was one of the very first bass guitar players in the 1950's.
3. Colin Hodgkinson was born here, still lives locally (near Karl funnily enough!) and took up bass guitar having been influenced by Rex!!!

I think the Peterborough Contingent will be getting together soon for a mini-bash - not sure where yet, but its on the cards! (this is currently in the `good idea I've just had' stage of development)

Current members:

Fosk, Muppet, Charic, Steve Valentine, Karl and some poser or other! Anyone else local - please add to the thread!
Oh yes Sexy Rexy - he's a damn fine drummer - havent actually heard him play bass yet. You going to be at Colins gig in castor Oct 4th, Nick? Back Door and solo stuff - should be good!

6.
The grain of the walnut in that neck is amazing, I love it. Looking forward to seeing pics of it finished…
thanks - but to be honest, that 'grain' is actually sap wood showing through - the walnut i used really wasnt the best looking piece i have by a long way - but why waste it. Im really excited about finishing this one. i never finished my first bass due to a problem with the neck - but i'll fix it one day.

7.
Welcome! Peterborough does have some soul then!!

Gigging with a 10 piece sounds a bit of a nightmare but I bet the band sound fantastic together. Slipknot manage just about with 9, though they sound like a bowl of hate

ped
Haha. Yeah it does sound fantastic - when it works. Thing is, we're all like 20-24 sort of age, apart from the drummer who's 68 and the keys whos in his late 40's, and people are always away or at uni or something. which i really anoying. but hey ho - have to start somewhere! im just looking forward to having a few more years playing under my belt - ive kind of hit a low spot at the moment :)

8.
What you could do is instead of having a jazz neck and bridge pickups, you could not put in the neck pickup and have a piezo bridge instead. It's just an idea but it would save having to route the neck pup and also piezo bridges often sound good with fretless.
oh piezo bridges would be nice - it was something i considered for this build, but ive decided to stick with magnetic pickups for this one, another im building - a fretted headless throughneck with status hardware - is having a single mm p'up, but one ive had on the drawing board for a while is a fretless with possiblt JUST piezos and 36 "frets" with a massive cutaway....

any idea who do decent piezo bridges though?

9.
Subscribed!

Who gave you the pickup advice? You're missing a beautiful thing by not putting a P pup in there...

Tony Franklin would be insulted.
haha. advice came from a local player. doctor_of_the_bass infact. he know his basses lol. anyway, putting a p bass pickup in a p bass seems a bit overdone :)

10. Here are some pics of a fretless P bass that im building. ive been on it for a while as ive had little time to do anything to it, but im back into it now so it sould some along soon!

Body is ash, neck walnut, fretboard is wenge. pickups are going to be j style (you'll see a plugged up p hole in the body - i was advised to stay away from p pickup on a fretless.
side dots only, no lines. dots are brass,
hardware is all black, gotho bridge, vintage style hipshot tuners (all matte black)
scratchplate is actually walnut too. but not pic yet as ive left it hanging on the wall above my workbench at work

no idea about pickups - must fit j bass because im going to be using some fenders that i have kicking around at the moment. i want it passive - any suggestions fro something that may work well with fretless?

11. I have a Peavey Max pre for sale. Its well used but works just fine.
its a two channel bass preamp (ie head minus power amp) with one valve channel, one solid state. graphic eq on the solid state side, three band passive on the tube. has a FANTASTIC built in crossover than can be used for bi-amping

any questions about it, ask away.

also, dont know how much id like for it. i'll think. there is also a 4u flight case that i will sell with it for and extra £30. and stereo poweramp but its not great - probably £25 for that? think its like 150watts

cheers
karl

*************************ONLY PRE IS LEFT NOW********************

12. Hi. Just joined the forum yesterday and its very cool! Sould have joined years ago.
Lets see...
Live in Peterborough :) and play bass. My main band is a 10-piece soul/r&b band - the Cactus Club which is fun, but barely gig at all because people are always away or something. The perils of large bands. I also play acoustic with a lad and we do pubs and open mic things. All covers sadly - but that seems to be all I can find.

This is all you're interested in anyway  - GEAR

Mark Bass CMD 103 H amp. Its lovely - but sadly has to go for transport reasons, will stick with Mark Bass though because they are awesome, just need something smaller.

Fender MIM P-Bass with Basslines active pickup and Badass II bridge. I shall soon be fitting the J pickup to it also and a battery door - but haven't had the time yet
Fretless Squire MB4 my first bass, but I still play it from time to time. Has one working pickup - a Fender J
Aria Pro II CTB 4 String P/J with odd active circuit. Its rubbish really but fun. Needs some TLC - again, when I have time
5-String Peavey throughneck Had this for ages, don't know what its called. Has bubinga wings and sounds pretty smooth
Ibanez EWB20WNE Acoustic Bass This IS lovely
Yamaha BB 5000A 5-string in fact, doctor_of_the_bass (aka Nick) will recognise this one...

Various effects and stuff. I don't really use them at the moment because I have no interesting band to use them in!

As for music - Jazz, funk, blues, rock, electronic, electronica, soul, r&b - lots of things.

13. Okie doke. Hi.
I have a Markbass CMD 103 H combo. Its fantastic, but I am struggeling driving it around with basses and gear in my mini.
Id really like the 2x10 combo and possibly an extension cab to go with it like the 2x10 for when i need some extra ooompf.

I got it because I play in a 10 piece with brass and such, but im icreasingly finding myself playing with little bands where the amp sounds great, but just transporting it is making it a pain.

Anyone got anything? Im thinking swaping and maybe some cash one way or the other.

Cheers
