hi paul.

My gear is currently based in swavesey, a small village a few miles from the centre. If its easier for you I can arrange things a little closer to the city centre at my house but in this case you would need to bring a cab to try it out as my 6x10 is back in the village atm. you're welcome to come try it out.

  2. I got this only a few weeks ago off fellow bass chatter steff (really great guy) in the hope that I could somehow integrate it into my current SVT set up for use in my band. It sounds fantastic in the room but the warm tube sound just isn't fitting in as well with the band as the SVT4 pro. The SVT4 / Gibson ripper combo IS the sound of the band and when i messed with it things just werent the same.

During this short time it has seen hardly any use. Its a great-sounding, well-built piece of bass amplification history and its too good to be lying around and deserves a proper home. I believe its the same amp used by Paul D'Amour on Tool's first album, on which the tone speaks for itself. In my opinion it sounds a lot better than some of the more modern hybrid stuff Mesa have been putting out lately.

Everything is in top working order and it has been recently treated to a proffessional service and full retube. It is extremely powerful but sounds great at lower volumes as well, especially if you give a little gain to the preamp. The 2nd preamp circuit turned out to be my favourite to work with, as it gave a nice musical growl and bags of tone. If you have a hot bass then the 1st preamp circuit would probably give a better sound.

I'm gonna take a slight loss on this one and sell it for £850 including the rack case. If you dont want or need the case, then I might let it go for £800 if you ask nicely.
I'm based in Cambridgeshire so feel free to come down and try it out. I'd rather not post this and it would probably be more cost effective to come and collect it anyway. Local pickup only folks.

I'm not interested in trades except on the off-chance somebody has a Spector Euro lying around (pm pics please) that they wish to trade.

p.s. Steff, I got a set of those Elixir nanowebs and they havnt gone dead yet :)

  3. Hello all,

I picked this up not too long ago from fellow basschatter Philly (hopefully he wont mind me using his pics). My Gibson Ripper recently came out of repair and since then this bass hasnt seen much action so I've decided to pass it on to a good home.

The wide array of controls make it incredibly versatile and it lends itself extremely well to an aggressive / bitey tone with everything rolled up on some steel roundwounds. Having said that, string it up with some flats and run it in passive mode and you can get something just fine for reggae, or jazz or whatever you like. It's even been called "the poor mans Wal" by some folk. The electronics and pickups are the same used on the more expensive US models and the craftmanship is superb.

The bass is mint and has been well maintained. I have bought and sold several instruments and parts from other basschatters and all has gone well. I'm asking for what I paid for it which is £350.

The bass only comes with a softcase and as such I am not willing to post it anywhere so it is for collection only (Cambridgeshire). Cash only.
If you want to come and look at it that isn't a problem just send me a PM.

I'll be happy to answere any questions you might have.

  4. The idea of putting together my own bass from parts has got me excited, but I've not done this before so I'm a little unsure. I do my own set ups and have taken files and drills to instruments and put in pickups, but have never built from scratch. I'll start by listing my idea:

    Maple P-bass body
Maple P-bass neck / maple board
Badass II bridge (or any other high-mass bridge for sustain and attack)

Matched pair humbuckers (passive) (unsure of which to get)
    Aguilar Opb-3 preamp

I have a gibson ripper from 1979 and while it sounds fantastic, I want to build something based on it that looks a but different and has a higher output, maybe with some of the extended high-end shaved off a little.

I've also been looking at secondhand basses on here because I'm not sure if I should go ahead and just start throwing parts together. I'm pretty sold on maple as a body wood given the few ones ive owned / tried with it have got 'that maple' sound. All this being said I'm a closet Musicman fan and havnt ruled out going with a used G&L or something similar to a MM. Only issue with a G&L is the necks, which they only replace under warranty and nobody seems to make necks for G&L basses!

    What do you think?

  5. Hi guys,

I've got a pair of EMG 35 DCs ( 4 string) that are only a couple of weeks old that I think I'm going to pass on. I've got most of the original packaging and I have the wiring sheets etc. One small catch is that out of the two volume and two tone pots that came with it, only the tone pots rotate properly. The volumes work but they're kind of stiff and rotate infinitely. Not a big deal if you already have EMG stuff, or if you dont mind a little stiff/awkward knobs, or if you think you can fix it with a bit of tinkering.

The Pickups themselves work great and the tone pots work just fine. The battery wiring has been wired up in series for 18v operation. No soldering required, its all plug and play with EMG!

These sell for about £80-90 new each online. I'm asking £90 for the pair (+£5 postage). Will post anywhere in the U.K. I've done business with a few members on the forum now and its been good going so far. Going to put these up on ebay if theres no interest over the next week or so.

    Thanks!

  6.
Hi Pete, I think you'd need a 2 into 1 jack if you were going to use an Ipod or anything else plugged in at the same time as your bass. It does have a headphone output.

Or if you hook the bass pod up to your computer, you can set the bass pod as your sound card via the USB ports and run music from Itunes through it and use the headphone out on the POD and hear the bass and your music.
The POD has an auxillery input for use with mp3 players etc. I run my computer's speaker socket into the auxillery on the POD so i can play along with anything on media player / youtube and drum software like beatcraft etc. These things are the bedroom bass players best friend. I even used to gig with mine. Have a bump on me.

  7. Hello again Bass Chatters,

I've got a brand new EMG BTC preamp that has never been used and I also have an EMG 35DC humbucker which has been removed from an old project bass of mine. After abandoning the project I can no longer justify having these sitting around.

They are up on ebay at the moment so feel welcome to bid or make a sensible offer. Combined cost of these new is about £200 so I'm looking for at least £100 really. Here is the link so you can have a better look at whats being sold.
