There's also a brand new B2 (like the B6) that has just been announced, though not available yet.

I love the TC pedals, the Zooms are all great for their respective price points. As the dollar starts to rise, of course we are in to Line 6 Helix territory starting with the Stomp pedal that is superb as well.

I've not tried the Boss pedals yet and brands such as Mooer, Donner and Nux appear to be bringing a few DSP pedals to market as well.

  2. You could be right but Tannoy managed such bass levels for many years using dual concentrics. My AER THREE is indeed a bass marvel featuring, I think, 2x 8” Spica or Faital  drivers. Don’t know which 10” the ONE uses, anyone in the know?

  3. Why not a dual concentric speaker in lieu of the stock? Might be worth a shot.

I’d look to Italy for inspiration  - RCF, 18 sound, B&C etc. someone must have an intriguing solution.

  4. Just completed a deal with Tim Cook for a wonderful Jerzy Drozd. The bass is superb but even more noteworthy was Tim’s handling of every aspect of the transaction - he was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Thanks Tim very pleased!

Had decided a while ago to upgrade my current main bass, been liking a more modern 2 x humbucker approach and will be looking to use the opportunity to get something a bit lighter than the 11.6lb Sire I currently use, hopefully around 8lbs. Needs to be a 5 string with 18-19mm spacing.

Had basically set my heart on waiting for a used MTD KZ5 to turn up within grabbing distance and set aside a bit of money for a pickup upgrade (Nordstrand/Barts) at some point, probably around £800ish total spend, however the Ibanez EHB1505 with the Nordstrand Big Splits is currently on sale as a silly price so I've been considering that.

I can remember the Ibanez had a lot of QC issues with these basses, is there any still being shipped like this? Also is the low B just good for a cheaper bass or is it genuinely up there with more expensive stuff? I've always liked Cort factory low Bs but tbh my current Sire does it better than all the 5 string Corts I've owned. It's the standard 34" version of the Ibanez I'm looking at, not the multiscale.

Can you let us know where 1505 is on sale at great price? Thanks

  6. Hi Obby - thanks so much for your reply and for the clarification. After a bit of digging, it seems to me that this is not a short scale model, your measurements also confirm this. I haven’t seen this color in a shortscale but in the Emerald Green only. I’m happy to be corrected. Additionally, the string installation problem totally clarifies why a new set is called for. Hope your sale goes well and once again, many thanks for your transparency.

  7. Al - no feedback with speaker on floor. Only thing to watch is bass drum mic as it is at similar level.

one of our friends here uses mismatched speakers - both ALTOS - 15” on floor and 10” on the pole. Wowza but seems to do the trick 🤔

BTW just read an article that QSC have suspended production of their KS & K speakers plus a bunch o other stuff. Absolute Music confirmation that supply constraints with all brands continue due to pandemic and the joy of Brexit!

    Cheers Bill.

Should RCF 312As cut it, based on their spec in your opinion / experience or are we realistically going to need to go north of that in terms of spend?

I realize my suggestion of a small sub has received a communal snub BUT just go test it out.
With a sub you are buying a single extra item that completes the sonic spectrum. It will make the whole system shine - our modest ALTO achieves it with minimum extra weight and little $$$ outlay. You get an RCF Or QSC SUB and you will slay.

Got a feeling that you’d actually like to get better mains - Yam DZR , RCF 745 NX etc.

    That is serious dosh !

Right - other mash up solution - take one of your spanking new 12”s off the stand and place it behind you (yes, flies in the face of accepted wisdom!), towards a corner. You will increase bass response and get plenty of funny looks.
‘We’re  in Spain and play in tricky to access spots. We’ll use a wheelbarrow or a deckchair to get gear across beach ands cliffs.

    Anyway will say no more!

  9. Have 2 systems:

    1. Yamaha dxr12 x2

    2. QSC K8 x2 and ALTO 212s 12” sub

#1 doesn’t cut it for me on bass whereas #2 handles bass and BD with little effort and no muddying of vocals. ALTO is a cheapie.

Why not add small sub - RCF 702, Qsc ks112 to your 310a? Seriously worth testing before forking out for slightly bigger RCF mains that might not do the job. Know you going for compact but just a thought…..

  10. If you have a pc/Mac, be sure to use the Line6 editor for setting up your sounds; it makes everything so much easier, particularly as you can use a good size screen rather than the diminutive one on the Stomp itself. All you need is to connect PC to Stomp via USB printer cable.
Am in similar age group and made the change pretty easily. I also have patches set up for acoustic and electric guitars for use in our duo.

Glad you’ve found a nice band - good luck!

  11. In our post Brexit world, the difficulties of shipping have multiplied exponentially, making UK/EU transactions much less practical.

I live in Spain and in the past have enjoyed jumping on BC, cruising the classifieds and doing my bass shopping. I have noticed in ads an increased reluctance to ship and much more “UK only”. In real terms, this means that a large % of ads are now closed to me and many others.

Do members think it would be useful to introduce a rapid visual way to identify shipping willingness? Something like…

    A pickup only

    B uk only

    C worldwide

Another option might be expanding the classifieds to include an international section or something similar. Or……?
