I like DR Sunbeams for fretless. Not cheap but nice feel and tone.

Chuck Treece! Possibly the only person to play with both Billy Joel and Bad Brains. Streets of Fire had a great soundtrack too. One of my favs along with Public Domain and Animal Chin.

I have a Moog MF on mine at the moment. I also own and really rate the Tech 21, both have a lot of cool and usable sounds but the Moog gets wetter and weirder, very Martin Hannett.

As used by Graham Lewis of Wire in the late 80s (dugga dugga dugga). The interview after this performance is one of the most toe-curling pieces of music telly ever.

Classic band. Pre-internet, skate video soundtracks were a great source of musical inspiration, the tapes you got with Thrasher too.

I had to use one of those Line 6 Lowdown combos in a rehearsal room once. They had just been favourably reviewed in the guitar mags. I remember a vast range of mediocre sounds, a weirdly voiced EQ and it being barely audible over a drummer. Looked like a Maplins PA too.

I fitted a Schaller on my old Fender "Cowpoke" (which I stupidly sold a few years later). Any tonal difference was minimal but it was a lot comfier under the palm.

For the longest time I wanted a magnum ..... specifically the passive 3 in the grey-burst finishe .... but after playing one in wunjo's a few years ago the sound .... it was not what I'd imagined.
Welcome , to the forums

Cheers - the output on the passive models is pretty moderate, I boost mine with a Fairfield Barbershop. -

Welcome, how about some pics of your Magnum??

Here you go, my Magnum III:

Wunjos had one in the window the last time I walked past. There's a 34" Talman with Nordstrands in the 2016 range but I don't think the UK is getting it.

Sub-£100 you might find a used Tech 21 Bass Boost Chorus if you're prepared to watch and wait. If you want a vintage type sound (ie no multi-voice or detune type sounds) the MXR analog chorus (or indeed the micro chorus) or EH Small Clone will do that.

The DBS line was designed to go up against the Traces and SWRs of their time, I remember them having masses of headroom and low end, and punching well above their weight watts-wise, like Trace. The cabs were punishingly heavy though.

+1 on the Rumbles, the 40 is a great little thing, and capable of adding moderate drive at practice volume for those Youth (or Raven) tones.

Well I've found the site a useful resource for a while so I might was well join! I've been playing bass since 89 with a few sojourns on guitar along the way. I've gone through a fair few basses and I now think I know what I like, generally older gear but anything that gets me a nice clank and growl and the possibility of a big dub sound is a nice bonus. I'm not really partisan to any brand, my keeper basses are a Ric 4003, an Ovation Magnum, a Fender US Jag, a G&L ASAT, a Gibson G3, a Yammy BB1024x and a surprisingly awesome Ibanez Blazer (yes I have a bit of a soft spot for 70s-80s MIJ stuff). Sometimes I use a few effects and I find passive basses tend to get on better with them. Amp wise I haven't really strayed far from Ampeg and older GKs. I've not yielded to the temptation of class D yet, modern cabs do interest me though. I listen to quite a lot of different music, my main thing is post punk, krautrock, the weirder ends of prog and hardcore, space rock, industrial, electronic etc.. Anyway hi all!
Where can I get a new Digitech bass synth wah from?

Dirty Robot sounds like it tracks pretty well!
