1. bassix try and search on you tube for sound checks. Henning Pauli is by far the best for doing HB reviews, he uses pro studio equipment for recording. Videos done with home cameras are crap sounding so avoid concluding anything based on those :) Henning Pauli's channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrPHxHPnSvHzNNYbJlYoyGQ

2. TrevorR I was thinking about getting such character pedal but will go for Harley Benton (30 Euros new with 3 year warranty) character pedals which are basically Tech 21 clones :)

xgsjx I cant travel to Germany for testing but I can order from Thomann, test it and return it if I dont like it, they pay for the return postage within 14 days.

One more question; How can a 4" woofer and 1 dome tweeter be 50 Watts ??? That sure is loud for such a small PA cab

3. Thanks Dad much appreciated as always! I listened to the first version a lot and thought I like it. Then I rested my ears and after walking my dog I listened again and man that lead guitar just was too low and the bass for me was also not punching through. Could be due to my AKG K-55 headphones, dunno.

So I took out some of the harmonic parts and added more saturation to both the bass, drums and the lead guitar and YES :) I added a compressor to the Master FX so all got compressed together (my bad). I did change the 8x10" bass cab plugin for a 1x15" with a tweeter to get that extra punch because in the first version (now deleted sorry did it before I read your reply, but I have it saved on my comp) the bass sounded too dull.

I think much of it comes to the monitors and headphones we all use. Im still using 2 different headphones just to get some wider idea as how this might sound in peoples headphones.

4. I too started with a Harley Benton single coil ST-20 and man did I immediately figure out that single coils are NOT for me. So I ordered 2 Harley Benton single cuts the L-450Plus and the SC-550PAF and boy am I happy with these humbuckers :D

I guess it all depends what sound you are after , I hate too much twang so single coils are out for me for good. I love the creamy, warm, fat humbucker sound.

That all said YES, no need to look anywhere further than the awesome Harley Bentons but do try to get at least the middle range guitars for quality (those with D'addario strings for example). The low end HB guitars are known for having need for lots of set-up around the frets and the pups are made by Shadow while the more expensive are made by Wilkinson and sound to my ear rounder and warmer (Alnico) while the Shadow sound too sharp. If the pickup is not branded they sure are from Shadow (I checked this with Thomann)

Like Bassman says, something like an amp simulator & either a power amp & PA cab, or just a powered PA speaker would cover it all.
If it's acoustic guitar, then I used my Markbass combo with my electro acoustic for many gigs & it sounded fantastic. You could use a pedal for the tube sounds.
First off thank you all for chiming in :)
After hearing what you say and looking at some prices those darn all tube heads do make my wallet sweat  so will have to look at this last option I quoted here.

Ok if I go with a PA Speaker what kind should I get? I mean do I go only with 1x tweeter or the one with 1 x woofer 1 x dome tweeter? As mentioned Im on a low budget now so will have to manage with affordable gear. I am looking at this one at Thomann http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_pro_achat_104_a.htm
I will not gig or anything so mostly home practice. It does say 50 Watts on that box above.

This Behringer preamp seem to be getting some decent reviews so I will go with it http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_vtone_bass_bdi21_analog_modeling_preamp.htm

Ok in this case of going for an active PA Speaker I can even afford a amp sim pedal from Harley Benton for the guitar. And I can use the PA speaker to monitor my recordings too I guess.

How do I connect the PA speaker to my laptop since it has a XLR in and out ??

Thanks again this thread was helpful!

Dad if Im to get that 2x15" cab I would need to take my bed out of the room and sleep on it instead :D

6. Hi,

Im a bedroom player but will try to get some amateur band together (in time)
My economy is very much low so way too expensive stuff is out of question. Im after an affordable Bass tube amp for home practice/rehearsal which can also be used to play my single cut guitar. I dont feel like buying separate amp for both.
Im more after a head + cab but combo might also do it.

Do you play guitars on your bass amps and does the guitar sound good that way? I did hear some playing guitars on the Fender Bassman and even on some bass amps which have tweeter in the speaker.

ALL tips and trick welcome :) Thank you!

Forgot to answer your question about playing style - usually fingerstyle, occasionally picked, NO slapping, EVER. :)
I posted a reply above at about the same time as you did!

Ok, I see. Whats wrong with slapping :) I ask since you wrote it with capital letters "EVER" :) I see a trend around bass forums being against slapping for some reason. If a certain style serves the tune then I see no reason to not use for example slapping or pulling. All the styles for me look like tools to be used for music making.
I don't think 'slap-dislikers' realize that by expressing against slapping (I read some on your blog too about the dislike) they will scare away the beginners to even try it because of the judgement present.

My apologies for going all 'wise-guy' here :) This is not meant to be personal at all :)

8. Dad I see you being bored, nothing on the TV, short cloudy days, cold , beer fridge empty, ... you can join me on the Orient Express to Istanbul where the Sun is shining! I promise we will be back by the time voting for this competition starts! What say you :P

(NOTE; this is not my entry track)

9. blablas suggested Artec 2-band Preamp to me and I will get it soon. If the money is an issue (as in my case) you could try this one too

No, the D stamp is at the base of the neck where it joins the body.
The D stamp is both at the base of the neck AND at the back of the body the part of the body at the base of the neck :) If you look carefully you will see it resembles the D from the neck. They used the same tool to hammer the D into the neck and body.

It would be a coincidence otherwise that we all have the chip in the lack at approx the same place

I could not help but hear this old tree trunk complain about those kids in your tune ;)
Here is the story;
This time I could not help but see Dad's kids dancing around this old tired tree trunk and them making a laugh about him. The old tree trunk could not talk but then I suddenly heard him talk to me musically :) He was complaining about these darn kids, generation after generation laughing at him and singing funny songs about him yet they fail to see his deep wisdom. He was a huge tree once upon a time before they cut him down. He sais the humans were jealous of his vast size and wanted to lower him down so he is more on their level. Oh, he feels nothing but pain and disappointment when these kids dance around him, these same kids once they grow into adults will cut down other trees, his kin.
And here is the tune called 'An Old Tree Trunk Spoke to Me' NOTE; I am entering the competition with this tune! Thank you! :)

Cheers!

That was awesome..... Make it longer. More! More! More!!!!!!!!
Thanks :) I wish I have the ability to make longer tunes without constant repeating. To be honest I just recently started recording (like EVER), and I never played with loops nor with other people so to fit more than 3 lines and longer than a minute tune is for me (at this stage) like embarking on a 'Homer-like Iliad & Odyssey journey'

But if you do fancy More you can always press the Repeat button :D

I've got a song in my head since I saw the picture but I can't think what it's got to do with the picture. It's about a heart of stone???????

I have a sculptor dancing around this sculpture hacking away chunks of wood :gas: dont tell me you cant see him?!
