1. Thanks for the continuing interest guys, I've been offered some cracking basses so far. I should clarify that one of the reasons this is up for sale is that I am hoping to generate a bit of cash here, either through an ought right sale or through a part exchange. I don't have an exact amount in mind, but I would prefer something like a lakland skyline 5 or nice fender perhaps plus cash, rather than a straight up trade for another top end bass.

So, still available, let me know what you've got!

    Cheers,

    Johnny

  2. Thanks for all the interest, and the offers but at the moment this is still available. I think I would still prefer a cash sale outright but I will entertain all px offers too, especially for jazz 5's so keep them coming! ;)

    Cheers,

    Johnny

  3.
I played this bass while Barrie had it. It's got that "jazz sound you always dreamed of" quality to it. An excellent instrument.

Thanks Rich, it certainly is a beauty. In fact, I gigged with it last night and am very tempted to keep it, but I think I miss having the low B- I can feel myself negotiating my lines slightly differently than I would if it was a 5, so its still available at the moment.

All PM's now replied to, sorry for the delay!

  4. YES! Of course its a mixed bag- but then not everyone likes Picasso!

I think the Standards Zone recording he made with Brian Melvin is woefully under listened to- there are some beautiful lines on that and some of his soloing is awesome. What's more, since he plays a load of standards you can get a feel for what he adds to tracks you're already familiar with. 'The days of wine and roses' and 'If you could see me now' are particularly good for checking out his feel and inventive comping. It came at an interesting time in his life too.

  5. Hi guys,

I picked up this beautiful bass in a trade for my Spector with Molan recently, and despite it being gorgeous in every way and serving me very well on a recent tour of Cape Town I think I'm more of a 5 string man so I'm going to have to reluctantly move this on.

I hope Barrie will forgive me, and won't mind me using his photos- the original thread can be seen here

The bass is quality through and through and in excellent condition. Please note it is an NYC, not a metro, which means its been handmade in the Big Apple by the man himself, or at least someone who calls him by his first name. Its also very light and has a D tuner to boot. I don't have the original case but I can provide the gig bag in which it came to me in. Pick up preferred but shipping with a hardcase is a possibility.

I'm looking for £[s]1600[/s] £1550 outright as that was the value agreed in the trade deal in which it came to me. Alternatively, I'm looking to pick up a quality jazz 5. I have my eye on something at the moment, but please let me know if anyone would be interested in a trade or part exchange of some kind. I'm based in Stepney Green, e. London, viewing is always welcome or PM me if you want any more info.

    Thanks,

    Johnny

  6.
Just traded a bass with John and wanted to say what a thoroughly nice chap he is ;)

Lots of friendly dialogue through the period we talked about what both of us might want to do and zero pressure to 'make a deal' quickly etc.

Highly recommended if anyone wants to buy from, or trade with, him!
Cheers Barry, it was a pleasure doing business with you too! :P

  7. Just met up with barrie to trade my spector for his gorgeous sadowsky NYC. Barrie is a great chap to deal with- very friendly, honest and knows his stuff. Buy from or sell to this man with confidence, and if you can squeeze in a trip to his office the views are spectacular!

  8.
Now traded & about to head home to Henley. A 'Sad' day for John - in more ways than one :P

Yet another really nice guy from BC, came over to my office to arrange the trade & caused mild amusement from my fellow workers to see the pair of us in a West End office with a couple of 'exotic' basses on our laps ;)
A "sad" day indeed! Sorry to see the spector go but happy its going to a great home, and delighted to have a sadowsky NYC to make up for it.

Cheers Barrie, and thanks all for the interest.

  9. Cheers! If it is its an unwelcome record- As much as I hate to see it go I'd much rather have sold it after 450 hits ;)

    Fingers crossed hey...
Congratulations, you are about to hit 4,500 views. Is this a record!

I've tried the bass twice actually, and it really is a beauty. I guess that it's just a bad time to shift expensive gear.
10. Threads like this are what makes Basschat so awesome!

I use modes in pretty much everything I play nowadays, but had to learn the hard way through a combination of the remarks made every now and then by the enthusiastic but impatient guitarist, a calculator and a summer of jazz quartet gigs. It can be intimidating at first but it is ultimately a very rewarding thing to learn and hugely useful!

Hats off to the guys who have taken the time out to patiently explain how things fit together! ;)

  11. First of all I think AM is likely to be female.

Now, as regards the nature of her work, yes, her picture may suggest she is a ghostbuster but a little careful investigation hints otherwise... 'Getting ready to go away'...'out of the country for feb'... 'travels a lot with work' not to mention her location listed as earth. If that doesn't add up just look at the photo which clearly shows the bess lying next to a rudimentary space suit of some kind.

    ;)

    Good luck with the sale!!!
I was thinking he was a Ghostbuster?
12. Cheers Gary, had a coupe of near misses in the last few days but what with one thing and another she remains for sale!
Can't believe this is still here.....

If I played 5-string I'd be all over it. This is one of the BEST basses anywhere on here.....
13. Great idea but I think there needs to be some sort of mechanism for making sure that people who order a ticket pay their tenner, otherwise pretty quickly your bass is only worth £900. This is no to say people intend to not pay up etc, its just that even with people of the best intentions (as I think seems to be everyone on BC) these things have a habit of not adding up to the pledged total.

Anyone have any idea how this might be best done?
