1. I really enjoy the 55-02 I picked up from Sean on BC. If its versatility you want a 55-02, or the 4 string version I believe they do, impressed me more in terms of range and quality than the DJ I AB'd it with. But yeah, trying them in the flesh is probably the best thing to do!

  2. I know Josh really well actually, I grew up on the same street as him and we've been mates ever since. He's a lovely bloke and a decent bass player too. All the advert stuff is a bit corporate, (but how could it not be- its a major mobile phone company's advertising campaign!) which makes their efforts to produce a folksy, homespun style add feel a bit forced, but Josh is really very much himself in the ads.

The story with the ads is that he was walking down Brick lane with his bass on the way to a sound check for a gig with his band (they are called Alphabet Backwards and seem to have had no exposure out of this, which must be annoying for them!) and was stopped by the production company and asked on camera what he'd do with free texts blah blah blah. The stuff about a superband is just the sort of thing he would have said rather than been told to say, and I know a few of our mutual friends have been involved with it. In fact, I got a facebook message about it myself, which was weird as I was expecting a text! :)

  3. Dear all,

Sansamp BDDI for sale! You all know the deal with these great little units.

I've had this for nearly two years now, never had any problems with it at all but I'm loving the preamp in my new Lakland 55-02 so much I don't often feel the need to add to it, hence the sale. In good condition, with box, manual and 9v installed. £90, available for collection in Old St London, or can post at buyer's expense.

Any question feel free to drop me a PM.

  4. To answer my own question about where to get a pair of moulded ear plugs in London, I can strongly recommend Dr Patel at London Hearing on Harley Street. Custom ER-15s and a free hearing test, the results of which he will go through with you, all for £170, which is less than I've seen quoted elsewhere.

Mine come in a week- can't wait!

  5. The Lightyears, a band I play with a fair bit, have just been booked to play on the pitch at Wembley stadium before kick off for the Guiness Premiership Rugby match between Saracens and Northampton Saints. I've played before games at a couple of stadiums before, at London Road in Peterborough but this is going to be a step up! Apparently Diversity (the Susan Boyle beating dance act) are going to be doing their thing pre kick off too. Tickets are £10/£5 for under 16s if anyone fancies a day out.

  6.
this might be worth a try - i use one as a monitor when i'm gigging and a practice amp when i'm at home.

mounts on a mike stand or will sit on a flight case

Cheers dude, looks like a good bit of kit, and very reasonably priced too, I'll check it out!

  7. Hi chaps,

Can anyone recommend a small powered wedge monitor for backline use at small and medium sized gigs?

Basically, the rest of the band all sing and have been using in ear monitors for a while. Because of this, we have been leaving our regular monitors at home because they're a bit on the old, tatty and heavy side and its the drummer who has the gear and the van at his place! The result is, I'm left to pick up whatever wash I can from the out fronts, drums and guitar amp. Its been alright up to now but not being ale to hear things properly is beginning to really get to me (its the principle of it too!), so I wonder if anyone can recommend a small wedge, ideally light and reasonably priced I can look into getting. Failing that I might pursue the in ear approach myself!

    Thanks,

    Johnny

  8. Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a custom set of ear plugs made in east/central london?

Sorry if this is repeating a question asked earlier, but it is a very long thread!

    Cheers, Johnny :)

  9. I bought Sean's 55-02 from him yesterday. Lovely bloke, great gear in mint condition, very accommodating with transport and meeting up and very good communicator too. Very highly recommended! :)

  10. I think Sandberg basses look great, and their relic designs are so much better looking than what fender are bringing out at the moment.

I quite fancy a 5 string JJ hardcore aged in their roquefort blue with a maple board, same as this one. Should I get in touch with Sandberg directly then to arrange the order?

...OK so the tunes may not be cool and right on but I'd still like to learn a few songs like this (fast forward to 0:52):

The tune he's playing, at least from 0.52, is 'cheek to cheek', the old jazz standard. The chart for it will be in the Real Book.

I thinks its awesome to show just what can be done with a bass guitar! It can be a beautiful lead instrument. Check out BC's very own Kevin Glasgow's arrangement of another standard, 'My Romance' here.
