Jorja Smith's live rendition of "Teenage Fantasy" at Glastonbury 2025. Basslines are always so much more interesting in live versions.

Wow, I just had a look through some of your previous posts @ChrisDev and your website of transcriptions and learning material. Astonishingly good! You have provided a wonderful free resource with such dedication over the years - its stunning. I made a small donation today. And boy do you deserve donations and patrons. I'll be coming back and having a look at some of the songs for help and inspiration or just for fun. Whereabouts do you live in Belgium? I worked in Mons 2014-17 and played in a rock band for fun there.
Thank you so much!
It's been too long since I visited Mons...I'm currently in Antwerp-

The latest addition to my website is a bass transcription for Olivia Dean's "Be My Own Boyfriend" with Finn Zeferino-Birchall on bass.
Another gem from the UK.

I went to a demo with Willis at a local music shop. He's one of those players that says: "I never practice, I just play XX hours a day" 🙄

... which is ridiculous!
Absolutely not. I wish I had had those when I was learning to read music.

Lots of personal preferences. I also write what works best for me on stage.
I like to see the structure of the song immediately. The key signature gives me a basic hand positioning, etc..
1 hour ago, Bilbo said:... but, with my approach, I am writing EXACTLY what is being played so repetition is often not exact so...
I'm pretty sure the repeat is exactly the same here. I will have another listen. I don't use repeats either if there's more than 1 note different.-

Sade performed 'Be Thankful For What You Got' live in Japan back in 1986. The track is originally by William DeVaughn, featuring Ronnie Baker on bass (also on my website).

I admit it. I am beaten. Someone asked about the Seth Govan bass part to 'hangover, from the 2006 Guthrie Govan album, 'Erotic Cakes'. I thought, 'I'll have a crack at that, and off I went. 2:38 seconds in, I completely lost it - no idea what he is doing. The tune is in 9:8 ( a kind of swung 3:4) but he is playing 4 against the 3 (12:8 over 9:8) and then he does something else that I cannot figure out at all. Sounds hip as f*** but I have no idea how to get it down so I threw the towel in. Here is where I got to. If you can complete the transcription, let me know. Seth lives down the road to me so I am going to contact him to see if he can explain himself!
I have a few of those. Frustrating...
I once contacted the guitarist of the band Fates Warning for help. I don't remember his reply, but in essence it was "I don't feel like it". The drummer never replied. -
Malcolm Foster, known for his work with The Pretenders, joined Simple Minds as a session bass player in 1989 and remained with the band until 1995.

Positive vibes with Rare Earth's "I Just Want to Celebrate" (John Persh). A joy to listen to and play along with.
