Still my all time favourite jazz track.
2. Hello

this bass is 1.5 years old, played at home and some rehearsals - never gigged.
I chose this bass out of 3 at the shop and its got a very distinctive fat stingray sound.
very good condition, got a small ding on the back of the headstock (really have to look closely to see).
comes with a flight case.

the reason im selling it is because i got a new warwick and fell in love with the way it sounds.

Looking for something along the line of a thumb neck-thru, but open for anything really.

cheers, Ito.

3. If you get out of denmark st, take right towards Tottenham court road tube, there is a shop on your right with lots of second hand studio gear and guitar pedals on the window.

I walked in there in the intention of buying a pod x3 or a tech 21 bass driver. The reason i went there was because they seemed to be the only ones who actually sell both of them.

I approached the guy that was there, a tall skinny guy with long hair, seems around the end of his 40s, and asked him if i can try the pod next and the bass driver.

him: "Why?"

Me: " Im looking for a device that would enable me to record my bass direct to the computer"

Him: " They are both very different "

me: " I know, thats why i want to try them, see which one i prefer"

him:(Angry tone): " there is no way you can compare them, they are too different "

me: (getting angry) " I dont want to compare them, i want to hear which one i prefer"

him: " we do not demonstrate gear here, if you want you can buy both of them"

he then turned his back to me and started talking to the other "sales" person.
Being a hot tempered middle eastern, he was kinda lucky that i was there with my girlfriend,
it was probably the rudest addetude i've ever got since moving to london.

Before i went to the shop i went to a cash point and took 300£ to buy one of these units.
I left the shop empty handed and very very angry and bitter.

Apart from the fact that he was a complete c**t, i really really wanted to hear the difference between a digital flashy unit like the pod, to a more hands on analog unit like the sans amp.

I'm never going near that area again.

Just to soften things up, i've ordered a new bass from Andertons over the phone 3 weeks ago, and they were very patient nice and friendly to me.

I know it 16nv seems to be something you wont notice, but everywhere i read people are raving about the difference they achieved by switching to more quality opamps.

here is an interesting discussion about it:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/39648-...062-replacement

i guess there is nothing to loose so im willing to experiment. i'll post my experience here once its done.

5.
My first question is who told you changing those chips would make any difference? Without any accompanying circuit changes to affect (say) the gain etc. you're not going to notice a thing.
I've researched into it an realised that the stock electronics that you get with the default MEC preamp are aimed into preserving battery life.
these two chips are basically the amplifiers (opamp) of the preamp, changing them can have a dramatic effect.
Since i dont mind switching a battery every three month, the sonic benefit is quite noticeable.
(i recycle all my batteries and use rechargeable ones when possible )

Here is what the guys over at MEC had to say:

you have to exchange the TL 062 (it is the small one) to a TL 072 and the
TL 064 (it is the big one) to a TL 074 and if you do this, the noice goes
done from 30 nV to arround 16 nV..

If you ever had any experience with MEC (9v) preamps you'll know that they can get quite noisy, especaly when you dial up the treble.

30 nV to 16nV is half the noise to signal ratio.

hope it answers your question.

6. hey all.

Im looking to cutomise and replace some parts in my MEC preamp.

the parts im looking for are TL072 and TL074 to replace the TL062 and TL064.

Does anyone have any idea where i can find them online? everywhere i look it seems as if i'll have to buy a bulk of them, or spend more than 100£ on an order.
I only need one of each.

If the internet is not the right place, maybe somewhere around central london?

thanks
Ito.

7. thanks! i've just read the comments for this book on amazon and everyone gave it 5 stars! thanks for a great advice!

As for miles davis, I think that part of the reason why I cant listen to him is because i dont understand jazz, some of it just seems too random for me.

On the other hand i love stuff like Avishay Cohen ( gently disturbed is my favorite cd at the moment ), weather report, old Herbie hancok and Idris Muhammad.

Of course I'm open for everything, and i would be more than glad to study miles davis and maybe learn to like him on the way!

8. Hey everyone

I'm looking for a book that basically explains jazz from the begging. Ideally it would be a large book that will cover a lot of ground and have audio cd for further reference. (or names of jazz piece for reference ). An audio
example to put things in context is very important for me.

My theoretical knowledge is pretty basic, i know all the modes, i can read very slowly and feel comfortable with progressions that dont go out of the given key ( modulation? )

thanks!

Ito.

9. Im thinking of buying a new bass in the next couple of month and the thumb is one of my options. I never had a chance to properly play one and see how it feels, but from the 5 minutes i played it in a shop the neck felt HUGE to my small hands.
