Great band. I think I saw them down at the Electric Banana. Don't look for it, it's not there anymore.

One hour commute each way to practice, too much toking by the others and the Singer/Guitarist not singing a note in three rehearsals!

Jack Casady is really good, varied flexible tones and god quality manufacture. The large body shape is not for everyone and I recommend you try one on a strap before buying

I second that. Just drink water. I found drinking coke I had a peak and then a trough on concentration levels during a gig.

Bigwan. It's a blindingly good pedal and the cornerstone of my live "sound". Only complaint is kicking in the shape switch is such a big db boost in level.

Strongly recommend the Classic Pro IV. I got it on Amazon for a steal at £249 new about 5 months ago! It's my No1 gigging bass now and the pickups sound great.

Truckstop I paid £150 for it and it feels like a lot of bass for that money. Got a big chip out of it but I'm not bothered. I really like the tone Jimmy Bain had with Dio and this gets pretty damn close (I think he played an older BB1000).

Popped in to my local shop to buy an amp and spied this on the wall. Never played many Yamaha’s and I primarily go for passive basses. That said, Loved the sound and the neck on this one so she came home with me. It’s got some awful, worn black coated strings on (Roto Nexus?) and is pretty bashed up but I really liked how it plays. Really like the 3 band EQ on it, should be good for making adjusts mid gig.

Bizarre experience today. I finally ordered the official Epiphone Thunderbird hardcase for my Classic Pro. It arrives, good price from Amazon. Doesn't fit. Pro is two inches longer than the case??? I've returned it for a refund.

Anyone else had this problem. It is the only Epiphone TBird case on the market- same at GAK Andertons etc

Grand Magus. One of my fave bands but every song title and lyrical content is basically picked from the same pot of words:

Steel, Iron, Fist, Silver, Hammer, Ravens, triumph, power.

One of the one on the last album was called Steel Versus Steel.

Bloody great band though. Listen if you like traditional style metal.

It's the human link that either makes it or breaks the experience isn't it. I have frequented two national chain music stores one with staff that are frosty at best, the other where you can have a good chat and they'll offer advice. I now only go to one of them.

Went back to a store this weekend where I've previously not had the best service (after a good few years break) and was well taken care of. Staff and their attitude can really make or break a music business, especially when its usually cheaper online- A store has to offer more than just products to survive.

I'll happy say that two stores I frequent who have got it right in the Manchester area are Great British Bass Lounge and Marvel Guitars. Top advice, banter and great service.

Last gig on Saturday was a blinder. Played our home town venue, lots of friends in the audience and everyone was really up for it. We played well with none of the repeat niggles/errors that sometimes take a shine off the evening. Seemed to be a lot of bass players in the audience and I had four or five separate people comment on my bass tone and playing and have been all puffed up like a peacock since. Great night.

I always take two of my three- Usually Epi Thunderbird Pro Classic and my Overwater/Tanglewood PJ as backup. Only doing c20 gigs per year. Really enjoying the T-Bird.

A big Geezer fan here, most of the important stuff has been mentioned here already. Watch his fingers in some of the live videos, he has a pronounced attack with his finger style- so there is a lot clank and bounce of the strings of the neck. You hear a lot of the wood and frets in his early bass tone. Play pretty aggressively over the 20th fret and experiment. I've noticed he doesn't play over the neck anymore however.

Pickups have got hotter an hotter to achieve more gain. Look at the tones that people like Peter Green or Paul Kossoff used to get with relatively low ohm PAF pickups.

Its awesome isn't it. This is on the Forever Free DVD if you want to buy your own copy.

Playing our favourite biker bar on NYE. It's always "lively" and I imagine NYE is going to be more so. Last gig there a very drunk lady punter fell on to the "stage" area and in to me. Knocked my bass out of tune, mic crashing to the floor, lady flat on her back and helped up by friends, drinks everywhere. I completed the song although in different key now

NYE - Pedal board will be shrink wrapped... probably me too.
