Shouldn't the ring be fit to your thumb? I can see no benefit having those parts anywhere else than in the thumb and index/middle finger?

The idea was that you could slap with your thumb and hammer/slap with your pinky in the rubber bulb. Leaving your fingers free to pop/pluck. Doubling your slapping speed…

  2. Around 1999/2000 I went to a huge music show in London (I can’t remember the venue now) but remember trying out a few different basses and things and ended up buying a Bass Hammer (?). At the time, I was mad into Flea’s style and bought this thing as it would enable me to slap with both my thumb (as usual) and my pinky in this get up. Anybody else seen/got one? Anybody ever mastered it? I certainly didn’t 🤣

    Any comments welcome!

I’ve seen a bundle of things easily two or three or four times what they would go for here, Japanese stuff 2-3 times what it would cost total to import from ishibashi …. And I saw one item which was probably priced about right.

so do a bit of looking around …

Ah, ok! I understand now.  I saw a medium scale Jackson bass on there that looked a bit over the top, tbh.

It would need to be custom fit, unless it just happened to be within the intonation adjustment of the saddles.

Putting a capo on the first fret, measuring from there to the 12th  13th* fret should give you an idea

      Reveal hidden contents

https://www.stewmac.com/fret-calculator/ tells me fret 1 on a 34" scale neck is almost 2 inches (1.908" (nut-1)) from the nut.

If the 32 inch neck would fit so the back of the nut is roughly where the 1st fret is on your current fretboard, and there is plenty of intonation adjustment in either direction...

It should be a fairly simple case of slapping it in and carefully drilling holes. Otherwise you'll have to move the bridge, modify saddles, maybe even have to relocate pickups, even if the neck pops right in!

*EDIT: It's the 13th fret on the 34" scale neck, which should correspond closely to the 12th fret position on the 32" scale neck that would be a drop in.

That does sound like far too much hassle for me.  Thanks for the guidance!

The issue will be scale length as the bridge won't be in the right place - if you're happy to re-drill and remount the bridge you'll be ok as long as there is room on the body!

Yeah, I wasn't totally sure about that.  I'm don't think I could be bothered with all that aggro!  Thank you for replying!

  6. I've just bought a Squier Musicmaster (vista series) and, although it's lovely and playable, it has a little bit of neck dive which bothers me. I'm replacing the machine heads with Hipshot Ultralite but was considering replacing the bridge with a high mass version. Does anybody know if there is such a thing or an equivalent or is there a thread that I can be pointed in the direction of?

    Cheers,

    Gareth
