1. Maybe this is Fender specific but I find their active Ps and particularly Js have a very different fundamental sound to passives. Not something that can be replicated by amp or pedal EQ. In fact I wanted to get a bit of the pumped up active J sound for a couple of tracks with my passive J and bought a Sadowsky pre pedal for the purpose but it didn't get close. The comment above about a more 'compressed' sound with active circuitry is interesting, maybe that's the difference I'm hearing... I'd appreciate any insight into this.

  2. Perfect condition Aguilar Octamizer in box. There are plenty of discussions on Basschat about these and they get plenty of praise. Built like a tank and tracks accurately. The octave filter is probably the coolest feature taking it from a dubby sound right through to fuzzy synth territory.

  3. This combo is basically brand new - I bought it a couple of months back from Wunjo's and it's only been played a handful of times at low volume in my living room. I paid £675 but prices have dropped recently to £595 so I'm looking for £500. I will provide the receipt as photographed which backs up the warranty.

There have been plenty of threads and reviews on here about how great these combos are and given the LM3 head installed, how easily it can be paired with a NY121 cab for a super-portable rig for bigger gigs.

As described in another thread (link following), the piezo is the combo's only weak point and I have disabled it which gives a much sweeter sound. It's a simple matter of switching a couple of wires on the crossover so I could put it back to how it was, but would recommend it as it is.

Trials welcome in Central London (next to Waterloo). Would much prefer to meet up within a reasonable distance, or collection.

  4. One Diamond BCP-1 Bass Compressor boxed and in as new condition. There are plenty of recommendations on here and Talkbass, and a useful review on ovnilabs here lhttp://www.ovnilab.c...diamobass.shtml. I only have the US power supply, although I may have one of the Diago red adaptors for use with standard Boss type PSU by the time I ship (needs centre +ve). Apparently these run fine on 9v with the adaptor. I have also run it perfectly well with a 12v Maplins centre +ve which are available for £10.

Could send 1st class recorded for £4.30 but that only covers up to £50 so would prefer Special Delivery at £8.45 to get it to ensure quick receipt with full cover.

The only trade I would consider is a 3Leaf Groove Regulator

  5. Don't be put off by the tweeter - if you don't like it it's easy to disconnect. I'm a complete novice when it comes to these things and was able to follow the instructions in the thread elsewhere. Simple to disconnect and simple to reconnect should you want to in future. That said it might not bother you. I can't comment on gigability as I haven't used mine in anger yet, but it sounded pretty sweet cranked in the shop.

  6. I was wondering a similar thing recently. Have a Roadworn Jazz and wanted to be able to pump it up to a more active vibe for the odd track. I bought the Sadowsky pre-amp/DI despite the guy at Bass Gallery telling me that it wouldn't do what I wanted, and it didn't. There was no magic transformation of my lovely vintage passive Jazz into a modern super-J. So I sold on the pre-amp and am buying back my Yamaha TRB which is a proper pumped-up active bass through-and-through. As to putting a pre-amp into a passive, I'd personally be very wary of doing that if I liked my passive in the first place, even with an active-off switch. I've yet to play an active bass that has as good a passive sound as a straight passive P or J.

  7. Classic flatwound set - 45, 65, 85, 105. I bought these a month ago from Wunjo's to A/B against a set of TIs. Pretty torn between them - the differences have been well aired in the Forum. These DTBs have a solid bass thump which the TI can't match, but what has won the contest for me is the looser tension as I'm getting the odd bit of tendonitis from work, so need to be careful not to aggravate it. That said, I didn't find the FS to be more effort to play than a normal set of roundwounds. Given a set of flats will keep going for years, these are basically new, just played in past their sticky phase. I had them on a P, so they have been cut for a 34" scale neck.

Enough rambling, £30 includes 1st class within the UK.

  8. Hi cameltoe, yes mine's the big Fender logo JV. Agree with all you say about both and I'm loathe to part with either but also have a RW Jazz and now my 5-string Yamaha coming back to a small flat... The main difference is neck profile, my JV has a very slim neck front to back which suits me as a long term J player. That said, I find the RW P easy to get around unlike the Classic 50's P which feels like a real handful to me and rather sticky. Think it must be the RW neck finish which everyone always raves about.

BTW, I think finish on the RW is excellent - the neck pocket is snug as you like which I've tried to show in the photos.

  9. Thanks for the interest, but I'm afraid I can't do trades this time. I'm seriously under having bought my Yamaha TRB 5Pii back off Beedster and so need the cash. I can testify to this being a great bass. The only reason I am culling it is that I have an '82 JV Precision as well, and it just edges it for me, but it was damn close between that and the Roadworn. Really, everything they say about these is true. Trials welcome right next to Waterloo station. I can also send a soundclip if anyone's interested - ropey playing but it'll give you an idea.

  10. Am I the only one here who finds a PJ combination unsatisfactory? I tried to convince myself it was the best of both worlds, because I couldn't decide between the two, but in the end went the same way as Diablo and bought both. I just found that the PJs I tried couldn't match the best of either, but maybe there are other better versions out there that can.

  11. FINAL PRICE DROP £620

Up for sale is a Fender Roadworn Precision in excellent condition, never gigged.

There've been plenty of reviews on here and Talkbass about how good these are to play and what a great vintage vibe they put out. As everyone says, a supremely comfortable neck (no stickiness), and super-resonant body with a full P thump.

I'm in Central London so easy to meet if you can get into town. I'd prefer not to ship as I don't have a hard case for this, just the Fender gig bag it came with, but may consider for the right price.

  12. There are some other photos of the bass from my September Ebay listing here (should still be visible): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191317405224?ssPageName=STRK:MEUNSOLD:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1560.l2649. If you hover over they are a reasonable size. I can testify to it being a fabulous bass, bought from The Bass Gallery and one owner until I sold to Beedster, who by the way is a top bloke to do business with. If I had the money I'd buy it back.

  13. I have a RW Jazz and echo the Marc S that it's a comfortable neck to play. However I did find with my RW P that at first I was having pain in my thumb joints and wrists. What this came down to was hand position - not being used to the different profile, I was unintentionally pressing hard with my thumb into the back of the neck to compensate, which was straining the tendons. My suggestion is to play your Jap Jazz and carefully observe your hand position and pressure of thumb/fingers and how relaxed your wrist/shoulder are. Then play your RW Jazz and compare. It only takes a small change to lead to strain. I agree with comment above that you might need to develop hand strength, but if we're talking about tendon strain, you want to nip it in the bud asap.

  14. There are plenty of posts on Basschat recommending these DI/preamp pedals. It doesn't turn every bass into a Sadowsky but it does give a punchy clean boost and gives you versatility as a DI as well. All in good working order - the white markers are a little faded on a couple of the knobs but easy enough to touch up.

    £110 inc. UK p&p
