You should tell him to like or lump it. He can't dictate what you play unless he pays for it.
Nice bass Sarah - I've always fancied an explorer, but the band I'm in has a kind of rock/blues/soul/country/rockabilly hybrid sound, so I settled for a thunderbird instead.
My guitarist didn't like my old pink and yellow P-Bass so i played it more just to anoy him -
I use a pick and that is it, so not for me then?
-
Would something like this work for bass?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DBX-266A-ProJect-One...id=p3286.c0.m14
Or would you need a specific bass compressor? -
I have been playing bass for years, i have never used compression.
What does it do?
P.S I know I'm a dumbass. -
We made a project vidoe when we first got together here is the terrible proof
-
Haha but you look damn good with it.

If you have home contents insurance check your policy, mine covers me for £5k for stuff i take out of the house and covers everything inside my house.
Cool - might be a week or 2 as I say , I'll PM you then.
Not a problem i'm still painting the body so no rush. -
I will take the machines and the bridge when they come up.
I would have taken the neck but I'm not good enough to play fretless (or fretted for that matter but it make it easier) -
If it helps i saw a blue one go for £1250 a few weeks back.

Andy Crocket is amazing, again it's all personal taste but he does the work i need doing on my bass and when i go to his workshop the stuff he is building always amazes me.
I think we are in danger of a serious thread hijack here mate, I reckon we should call it quits now
Yeh 1 post too many.
One of my lazy bass habits is not practicing and hijacking threads -
Yip, he sure can be a complete pratt. I can't stand bad manners and disrespect.
Great Ozzy Osbourne quote "I might be a washed up old junkie rock star, but at least I'm not Sting" made me chuckle. -
Well I never, surely that can't be Liam from "bodybuilding metal" band Angst? Haven't seen them in ages, that picture just reminded me why.
I've only ever taken a spare when both my basses were tuned the same, one active, one passive, and I couldn't find a spare 9v battery. Apart from that I've always risked it.
Indeed it is, have you seen them live? can you believe the amount of equipment? -
I get you! But highly creative people with attitude and determination can be real pains in the arse. Cracking bass player in my opinion though, along with a great voice, awesome songwriting skills, market awareness, etc.
As i say I'm sure he is a good player it's not really my cup of tea so I've never really analised it.
I saw him on one of these talk shows a few years back and he had an acoustic guitar with him, he was the first to be interviewed then the next guest came on and while the interveiwer (may have been Parky can't remember) was talking to them he just sat there strumming it was just so disrespectful. -
What's wrong with Sting, dude?
He is everthing i hate in a person he thinks so much of himself and has a complete smugness about him arghhhh.
Probably a good bass player never listened long enough to tell. -
I wouldn't lend a guitar to someone if I thought he'd lean it against an amp and snap off the headstock!!!
Oh another thing in my 'Box Of Tricks' is a guitar stand. -
use my left thumb to fret notes on the E string.
then again, Sting, Chris Squire and Stanley Clarke do it sometimes.
If Sting does it that is more than enough reason not too.
Me I'm just a terrible bass player i've been getting away with it for 12 years god bless Punk.
What does compression do?
They're dead useful live and almost essential in the studio but it depends what sort of music you play as to how you use them. I used to play a fretless Jazz in a very hardcore band and a compressor was so good for keeping the riffs tight and evenly attenuated with the guitars. I used a pick most of the time and I found it even better with pick. Try one in a rehearsal and see if it gives you the feelings you like.
i might borrow one from a mate and try it out before i take the plunge, sound good though.
