1. I saw this Bass in person last week.

It's a beauty. The quality just sings out.
The body finish is in amazing shape for the age, and the hardware is ageing really nicely.

It really does have that vintage 60's feel to it and the neck is brilliant.
The fit and finish and quality of the materials is outstanding, knocks spots off the American basses of the period.

If only I had the funds spare....

Good luck with the sale, Cliff.

2. I got a lovely Fender Roadworn 60's Jazz Bass from another member here.
Thanks ED!

:)

It's a great bass. The neck is just brilliant.

I was wondering about the possibility of adding a stack pot control plate, as on the 60-61 Jazz.
The thinking is to add an individual tone for each pickup, rather than the single master tone control.

Thoughts?

3. Thanks very much for all the input, I appreciate it.

I got a great quote from David Wilson. David does some fantastic finishing and refinishing work, for clients like Mark Knopfler.

We've talked about the bass and have considered the possibility of visible joins, bad knots, dents filled with body filler, etc.

Where we are now is that he'll strip the black off, see what we've got, then make a decision.

If the wood's good, we'll go with a tinted Polyester to match the aged headstock. If not, we'll go with a solid colour.
I'm not fussed if the grain doesn't match exactly and we have visible dowels, etc. I think it's part of the story.

It's always a gamble.....

4. I bought a brilliant Fender 72 P Bass from our own Cliff (CH161)

The body was refinished sometime in black, and I'd really like to get it stripped and refinished in a tinted clearcoat to match the headstock face.

I've approached many of the pro shops, and they are coming in very pricey and can't touch it until March at the earliest.
I'd like to get the body done before then.

Do any of our members do this kind of thing?

Many thanks,

Karl

5. I bought a vintage Fender P Bass from Cliff.

He was completely upfront about all of the details of the instrument, good and bad, and was honest and open and great to deal with in person.

He's extremely knowledgable about classic and vintage Fenders and really knows his stuff.

Can't recommend him highly enough.

Buy with confidence.

:)

6. Kingbollock.

It's fine, don't worry. But thanks for that.
As I said, I do appreciate the useful suggestions.

I'm a newish member here but I am a bass player and a member of the community in, I assume, good standing.
I thought it might be a good place to ask about dummy stacks. You never know.... bass related....

I have no idea what caused the hurtful things people have said on this thread.

This:

'It'll go straight to DVD anyway.....'

And this:

'Please excuse those of us who were unable to supply precisely the information you required and to convey it with the gravitas the project clearly demands.'

Are clearly unnecessary.

Thanks to everyone else for the useful suggestions, though. I appreciate it.
