Thanks Wimpy! I know you have drooled over this one..
It is really something special in playability and tone that is inspiring with this bass. -
Hi, after very, very long debating I decided to sell my F-Bass Studio 5. It is a killer bass, but nowadays I play almost exclusively my four-string Moon JJ4, so this one deserves to be played by someone else.
It has very organic J tone, the playability is amazing as well as the overall ergonomics. Action can be set very low. The weight is exactly 9 pounds.
The preamp is very musical and versatile, can get usable tones within the entire travel of the knobs (handmade from ebony - btw)
You can feel it is a truly boutique handmade instrument. Resembles more some violoncello or some classic music instrument than a slab of bass guitar..
Specs:
Ash body
Maple neck
Slightly birdseyed maple fingerboard
Nitro lacquer
34,5" scale
20 frets
19 mm string spacing
9 pounds weight
F-bass pickups - single coil/humbucker switchable
F-bass preamp with controls:
neck pickup volume
bridge pickup volume - pulled switches pickups to humbucker mode, default is single coil mode
passive tone control - works in active mode too, pulled bypasses the preamp
bass boost
mids boost
treble boost
It was made in 2000, and as you can see by the worn lacquer on the bridge pickup, it was well played and loved
The colour name is Transparent Purple (according to George Furlanetto). You can see the slight ceruse finish through the lacquer.
The pics are making the colour lighter than it is. In real life conditions in club/stage it looks almost black. Very elegant
I had her for about year. Here are the photos (I used also some photos by previous owner, hopefully he don't mind..)
In all fairness, that would fit to the bass too!

Last massive price drop before withdrawing!
New price £1090 + approx. £40 shipping within EU.

If it does not sell for this price, I will rather keep it.
It is too good sounding and playing vintage bass to sell that cheap.
Your opportunity now! -

In all fairness, that would fit to the bass too!
bump -
In order to get it you have to trace several older gilbass's threads and put things together yourself. It's a sort of a game.
Does this operate at Euro voltages or American (and was it originally convertable)?
[s]I got it with 120 V setting, but after one kind e-mail from Dave Funk and one wire resolder I have easily converted it to 220 V.[/s]
Could be reverted back to 120V, no problem.
Edit: I found the e-mail - it was from 2005 sorry for bad memory - the soldering I did was only to remove the 120V fan someone added there.
The voltage conversion itself requires only moving the slider behind the plate on the back panel. No soldering.

Simple. Remove the plate next to the fuse and set the slide switches to 220V and 20v = 240 volts. There's no 230 volt setting. Since the EU isn't really 230V you might be able to use the 220V setting for max power. Measure your wall voltage to be sure. Use a 2-1/2 amp slo-blo fuse.
