1. This is genius! After trying and failing miserably to come up with decent band names for the last 5 months I have just gone though the entire New Content section and come up with at least 25 potential names (only borrowing 2 from Happy Jacks original list) which I can put out for consideration by my band-mates! I will report back in due course!!

  2. I practice at home through a 30W Laney Richter. Bought this off ebay for £15. Kept in my small 4th bedroom/office and is perfect for noodling and learning new songs (headphones and aux in). Also have an Ashdown 180 combo at home but this rarely gets used. Ashdown gigging rig stored at rehearsal studio to avoid too much lugging about.

The young guy with bad timing, poor technique, cliched licks, but good hair winning his group was a travesty. However, I have learned that he is related to the owner of the 100 Club where it was filmed. Coincidence?

Mmm. Interesting that. The guy from the 100 Club who was helping judge made a big point of how important stage presence was. I wonder why! I assume if the lad hadn't run up and down the stage shaking his head and sliding on his knees he wouldn't have won that category? Doesn't cut it for me at all. Better guitarists on that stage who were more deserving.

  4. Ok. Standard series deko Precision received safely. On a quick first inspection I can see absolutely nothing wrong with it at all, other than the 'D' stamps on the back. No other blemishes, neck is straight, frets are good with no sharp or raised edges, tuners are good and most importantly it works when I plug it in!! Complete with QC tag hanging on one of the tuners and an instrument cable. Couldnt be more chuffed with a £19 bass. No time for pics or proper testing right now but hopefully full NBD will follow tomorrow.
    Happy as Larry! :)

  5. Self-taught but with a grounding in music theory from A level music, Grade 8 clarinet and Grade 5 Tenor Sax. Having said all that all my reading of music is Treble clef so I do not sight read on bass. I also hate TAB so everything i learn is by ear and from you-tube videos. I find it quicker and easier to commit songs to memory by seeing them being played on video rather than referring to TAB. I have used some on-line lessons, Scott Devine in particular for technique based stuff but that is about it. Playing with others in a band environment is the best way to then fine tune everything I think.

Surprised to see that my item was "Received in destination country" at 6PM today, wasn't expecting any movement over the weekend. Updated via the parcel force site, not Thomann.

Having seen this, I have just checked mine and it has also been received in the destination country!! Good news. Hope Chris Sharman's bass was also on the same shipment.

How are you going onto the DHL site ?

You need to access it via the email from Thomann. That will take you to the correct DHL service. Going to DHL via google and entering the tracking number for mine didn't work, but following the Thomann link it did.
Ah, ok. That works. At least it confirms that DHL have some record of it! Ultimately it tells me no more than the Thomann site in that it is still stuck in Cologne after a week!

Email now sent to Thomann. I will spare you the majority of the bile but pointing out that of four things I ordered one was delivered, two had apparently already sold out (even though their system told me they were still available) and the fourth was handed over to DHL for delivery although DHL's system does not agree that this is the case.

25% success rate? Not great in my view.

    Your Experience May Vary.

I would be very interested in hearing what they have to say.

I wish you hadn't put that as I have just done the same with DHL and got the same result. Seriously concerned now for receiving anything from them EVER!

Looks like we have to go to Germany to fetch it. I suppose we could do it how they did in my grandads day. Take a boat over to Normandy then head up towards Germany from there...

I sort of feel happier that it is not just mine! Surely they cant have lost 2 guitars. Can they?

I am sure they will turn up eventually but I will be giving DHL a call to hurry them up a bit!

Hmmm....I have no plans for the weekend and both of our orders are sitting in Cologne....ROAD TRIP!!!
Sounds like a plan. However, just to piss me off a bit more..........I decided to go on the DHL website and try entering the tracking reference on there and see if it said anything different to what it says on the Thomann website. It does say something different. It says that it doesnt recognise the reference number!!! What the f*#@ have they done with my bass?

I finally received the email that everyone else seems to have had about the DHL strike but apprently there is also a strike in Calais <comedy German accent> "Qvikly Hans... blame ze French" <German off>. Bass is still showing as being in Koln where it has been relaxing with it's feet up for a week now.

    Harumph!

Chris, I think we ordered at about the same time last week and mine is still stuck in bloody Cologne as well. Thinking about contacting DHL directly to see what the hell is going on. Oh the frustration!!!

  13. Also received some Rotos from Ralph today. Excellent service and really decent strings for no cost.

Feeling slightly guilty as I hadnt thought of a charity donation for his trouble but an excellent idea and I am sure I can push a few pennies the way of the mentioned charity. Good work all round!

    About the shipping duration.
We have (had) a strike of the mailing company in germany.
It lasted about 50 days and finished today. My guitar player still waits for his package - 3 weeks now.
Blimey. Does that mean 50 days of backlogged parcels to clear? That could take a while!
