1. I've got a Hartke PRO 2200 2X12" cab I've been gigging for years and I would never describe it as shy with the low frequencies. I think it must have been some other factor in that instance.

  2. I love my Line6 110 Studio to bits for home practice. I used to use it for my previous covers band rehearsals and I was perfectly happy with the sound and it kept everyone else's volume down. I think the rest of my band members would have preferred if I'd brought something a little bigger and louder though. If promoting the importance of practicing at a sensible volume level is your priority then I can say that my experience with this amp supports that.

  3. I used to have piano lessons as a kid but never took any grades. I used to be able to get close to sight-reading both treble and bass clef but it takes me a good few minutes and several mistakes to read a single bar now as I didn't go back to it for years.

I've just got myself a few books on bass sight reading and it's starting to come back to me. It's more the specific bass stuff like having the same notes in different positions that is causing me a headache now, it seemed so much more simple on a piano :)

  4. I have both the Tascam Bass Trainer and H4 too!

I tend to mostly burn songs to CDRs and use the Bass Trainer - only because if I use my PC for playing bass through I tend to find myself distracted by browsing BassChat rather than practicing!

I have also used my H4 as an external sound card. You can then just plug your bass and headphones direct into the H4. Use the controls on the H4 to set the level of the bass signal going in (it has hardware monitoring so you'll be able to hear the bass through the headphones without having to launch any software on your PC). Then you just need to open the music on the PC in your favourite media player i.e. iTunes, Windows Media Player, Audacity. You then set the level of the music using the volume control on the windows desktop.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Gah, stop posting photos of all those lovely Thumb NTs! I love my Thumb BO to bits but it was a bit of a compromise as I couldn't possibly afford the neck-thru at the time :)

  6. I play this with my cover band. I use an EH Big Muff with my bass tuned at concert pitch EADG. All I do is play octaves and our keyboard player also doubles up what I'm playing on his synth.

I start on the D - 10th fret on the E string. Does that help? I could record myself playing the riff once through tonight if it helps?

  7. Set Neck is where the neck is glued into a pocket in the body. I don't believe they are dovetailed in the general case.

The construction method tends to be marketted as something between a bolt-on and through-neck. Cheaper to make than a through-neck, but supposedly the increased contact between the neck and body gives the impression of increased sustain similar to a through-neck.

  8. I think it's common knowledge that the new Rockbass Corvette and second-hand German Corvettes occupy a very similar space. It would make sense for Warwick to upscale the Rockbass equivalent and drop the German made one. One of their guiding principles is to invest in technology at their German production facility and I gather they are very proud of it. Given that they've had a visit and commendation from the German President in the last couple of months I doubt they will wholesale move production offshore. I haven't read the TalkBass article as I don't consider anything there a primary source of information.

  9.
Still no news, or reply to e-mails, I'm sure one day I'll hear from him though.
I got a reply from Jon at 19:36 last night from an email I sent on the 14th, so hopefully you should get something soon. Probably worth giving him a call to make sure your emails are getting through.

  10. I've found with amp GAS that each equipment manufacturer sounds sufficiently different to make you want to switch your gear out constantly. One week I might really fancy a clean signal, the next a driven valve one, etc, etc. I think tone and therefore gear nirvana comes from accepting that you'll come across amps that sound brilliant in a different way to your own, but that doesn't mean that your existing amp sounds bad.

  11. Start slow and work your way up. Get some scale patterns and play along to a metronome. It's boring but ultimately it will get your muscle memory and stamina working. I think it's better to practice regularly for short periods than infrequently and long periods e.g. 10 minutes a day rather than one 5 hour session a month.

  12. I sent Jon an email having to admit that it didn't look likely that I'd be able to find time to make my way up to Sheffield this month. I'm now looking to find a day in June to pick the bass up. Jon says that he'll have the bass finished for whatever date I set.

  13. Wow! That is an epic equipment journey you've been through Dood. I'm glad you've come back around to Hartke though as they seem to have something so 'honest' about their gear. It's really gear built for the working bass player I feel. Now when can I expect to hear this mighty rig at a Within The Void gig?!? :)

  14. I've gigged a Hartke 3500 for about 8 years now. I love the tone I get out of it when playing in a band. I don't use the graphic EQ or onboard compressor, but just use the two band shelve/boost controls to adjust the sound for the room. On it's own the sound is thin, harsh and the transformer hum and fan noise is very loud, but in a band the tone cuts through and all the noisiness gets lost on stage. The only reason I'm looking to replace it is that it is incredibly heavy to move around. If I get the same sound from a smaller/lighter amp I would be over the moon.

  15.
Bank holiday weekend, most working bands would be booked out..... stick an add out on UK Music Jobs.... you'll get loads of response
+1, my covers band are already booked for that date. Hope you find someone soon :)

  16. Very cool idea. I was intrigued when they mentioned the prototype head they used to develop the Staccato head. A glimpse at the prototype looked like it wasn't all that different externally to the normal RH450. I wondered if they still have something like a USB header internally on the PCBs.

Seems that the RH450 is getting even more interesting features even after it has been released! I love the fact you can do that with digital amps.
