1. I had a five-string streamer for a while. Honestly it was very nice and certainly a good step up from what I was playing at the time. It was however a bolt-on and it went through three necks before Warwick put a wenge one on, and after that (well for me at least) it was close to perfection. It was comfortable, great phat tone, nice B-string.

A few years after I got it, we had moved house and I sold the bass on to cover some building work (something that also happened to the Aerodyne that's in my avatar). Sad time. I don't know if I'd go back to be honest, the Lakland is great and I'm kind of falling in love with my Bongo. I'd echo the words of an earlier poster...it's a sleeping classic.

  2.
I am also looking for something to boost my clean levels, since when i hit the drive and fuzz off the volume takes abit of a hit. I've tried lowering the volume on the pedals but it just doesnt seem to have the same bite then.
Does anyone have a clean boost pedal that is really good. Eg something just to give me abit more volume for the cleans, and finally is there anyway/pedal that will latch on when another latches off? So i hit a pedal off (my loop) and it engages the clean boost automatically. Or something?
I've never really been a fan of pedals and such; I've always been a bass into amp/POD>amp, and I'm not about to get all loved up about moving Hartke products, but I picked up a Hartke Bass Attack pedal along with my cabinets. It's tamed my Bongo somewhat, but at the same time given me a tad more clarity and boost. To use a word that's already been used, it's transparent. Can't quite explain it. Reasonably cheap and quite cheerful.

Might be an idea to add an acceptable Cash Price!
I honestly have no idea.

I don't want to come over as smug or anything here, but they rarely come up in the UK; US eBay prices for the two that have gone recently are $1,250 and $1,350 (and I'm not letting it go for £900)...plus, you'd need to factor in shipping and duties on top of that. Th*m*nn are selling new for a shade under £2,000. There's also supposed to be an eighteen month waiting list as well (although black ones don't seem to be an issue as Thomann have the Stealth model in stock).

At this stage [for instance] a straight trade against a European Spector LX 5 would be a better deal all round rather than me selling for £1,400 and then putting another £250-300 to Thomann to purchase a new one.

  4. Looking to see whether there are any interesting trades against this bass.

I really had the hots for a Bongo and landed this 5HH a couple of months back, but it's not for me. It's difficult to quantify exactly why this bass doesn't work for me; being 100% honest here, it's quite beautiful to look at (it's a great piece of art), monster tone, but this is the only active bass is my collection and I just find it difficult to use as a back-up bass as it's so mental compared with my DJ5. Aside from the prerequisite little-ding-at-the-end-of-the-headstock the bass is mint. Desert Gold finish, Music Man hardshell case, Dunlop Strap-loks, custom pickguard.

At present I'm struggling to think what I could trade this against, I've been racking my brain most of the afternoon...Gibson Thunderbird (has to be white), a Spector 5-string NS, maybe even a Rickenbacker 4001/3 so long as it was black. Don't know. If you have anything interesting, let me know.

    Anyhow, here's some pics:

Edit: If I can make a little edit here; obviously I'm reasonably aware of what the bass is worth from a monetary perspective, so it's market value is more than a Thunderbird, and maybe on par with a Spector or Rickenbacker. I'm not going to trade this away and make a loss; I'd sooner hang onto it and punt it again in a few months if this was the case. I'd just like to thank my wife for pointing that out to me. Sorry to be blunt. :)

  5.
Right folks time for an October bump. This is for sale again! Top player and sounds nice as hell!
Loving the current LG basses...I love that body shape, but lordy that headstock doesn't work for me. Thinking aloud; I wonder whether they'd do a replacement?

  6. If it stands for anything, I teach a mates daughter and she has one of their 3/4 sized P-bass clones (...yes, in pink). I spent about an hour tweaking everything and after that it sounded schweet and played like a dream.

  7.
So much for that - several weeks later and a new parcel - the GUITAR VERSION AGAIN!!!

I have asked for a full refund. in the meantime I have two guitar GK3 kits which I can hold onto until the refund arrives. Cheers Dawsons/Roland, 6 weeks wasted.
Been there, done that.

Over the years you get a bit jaded with the service from retailers. A few years back I would just take the typically British route ('Ho-hum, things will sort themselves out in time') and not complain and seek something back. Ped, I hope, refund aside, you're hassling them for something...free strings (anything!) to restore some kind of confidence/goodwill with Dawsons. I think your quote of Cheers Dawsons/Roland, 6 weeks wasted doesn't really sum up the aggro and inconvenience.

Sending you the wrong unit twice isn't anything to do with Roland...it's probably someone putting the wrong SKU on it at Dawsons, putting it in the wrong picking location in their warehouse (and the picker just pulling it off the shelf) or the person doing the order not reading what's actually on the pick note. I have been there at the old company I worked at (medical goods...not good).

Take them for something mate. The more people do complain, the more these companies will actually improve long term.

  8. Years ago I was unfortunate enough to secure a Sunday lunchtime slot at a pub in Hackney:

It was a bit of a trawl up, but we got paid in beer, chicken wings and a bit of money.

One Sunday, two fat blokes are having bit of a jostle by the bar over some chicken wings that had just come out. I didn't see the start of it, my drummer threw a stick at me and I just looked up to see one of the blokes punch the other one full on the nose and hear the sickening crack of bone. He went down and then the whole place erupted. It was like a cowboy movie. we just kept playing, inching closer to our equipment to stop it from getting damaged. Two blokes were on the floor in front of me beating the crap out of each other.

The owner was swinging a pool cue around his head shouting 'Not in my pub! NOT IN MY FAAAACKING PUB!' and hitting anyone he could. It all stopped after about 90 seconds, with all factions making a swift getaway and no doubt carrying it on elsewhere.

In hindsight, it was hilarious. At the time, I was shitting myself.

    Happy days.

  9.
here's a few pictures of my Thunderbird pro
Post some photos of that Rickenbacker as well...I'm not a real fan of them, but I admit there's a little lightness in my stomach when I see black ones.

  10. Don't get me wrong, I was actually considering this unit (the X3) some time back, but at the time Line6 hadn't released the unit (in the US or UK for that matter), so my interest just stalled and I went with my Tech21 head. I guess this should be a lesson to all manufacturers; don't whet people's appetite with equipment specs when it's not going to arrive for a year.

As I hit my mid-40s I finally came to realise that waiting a year for something to arrive chops a big chunk off the time I have left on the planet. Can't sit around with my thumb up my ass waiting for the corporation to release product. Buy now, worry later.
I suppose it was the sheer practicality for me. I used to be a bit up my own arse about valve tone. But I hate carting amps about, and all the sh*t you get with sound engineers. So basically the POD offered me a plug and play solution, sound guy just has to make minor adjustments for the room, no stage overspill from an cabinet either. I just double DI into the desk, pan hard left and right, not much else for the sound guy to do apart from levels. Plus, with Kit's band, I may be playing some guitar live while she takes care of the bass on the keys, so I set up the relevant patches, plug in the guitar, no problem.
11. Chaps

I need to move these in about a month:
    MAG 4x10
    MAG 2x10
    MAG 1x15

The 4x10 is a few months old (from Thomann) and has been out of the house for jams on five or six occasions. The 2x10 I picked up from a fellow Basschatter around a month ago - home use only along with the 1x15. All sound gear in great nick.

Looking for £175 for the 4x10, £100 each for the 2x10 and 1x15.

You all know what these babies look like, so no photos.

    Cheers
    Paul

  12. The BassPOD (Mk1) was the mainstay of my live sound for years; that Skate Park tone was pretty much what I used all the time, but as time went on I bought a hotter amp that obviated the necessity of using a POD.

I'm no purist, I love Line6 stuff, but right now I'm in a happy place with just an amp and cabinets.

  13. OK...having a sort out on my garage; I have:

[s]A full set of UK Bassist magazines from about ten years ago.[/s]
[s]A Fender gig bag (secondhand - my Geddy came in it - used but usable)[/s]
Gigbag from my Waterstone bass...a bit lightweight - the bass fits snugly and is 130cm long, 40cm wide and around 10cm deep.
[s]A couple of Arbiter guitar stands[/s]

[s]If anyone is interested, I stopped buying Q Magazine a couple of years ago, but have them all from issue 10 or 11.[/s]

    First come first served.

Bassist magazines weigh a ton, the other stuff is just bulky. I guess if you want to collect, I'm in Crowthrone, Berkshire (Reading ten minutes).

Also some DVDs (just do me something to cover P&P)
    Little Britain (series 1) (2DVD)
    Fifth Element
    Pirates Of The Caribbean (2DVD)
    Baraka
    Batman Begins (2DVD)

I have a couple of white BT hub phones (model# 1010)...we hardly used them; unboxed with batteries, chargers and cradles - cover P&P and they're yours.

  14.
I have limited experience at present but will be adding a comprehensive post on my Ric thread after a few more rehearsals and gigs. I will say that it has taken me some time to get anything close to the sound I wanted from the bass as a whole (the result of numerous problems which I guess are part and parcel of putting together a bass). However, having tried various strings, EQs and playing styles, I think I hit the jackpot on Tuesday. I will say that the SD Ric PUPs are a PITA to install, are not direct drop in replacemnt for Rics by any stretch of the imagination (the neck PUP is too small and the bridge too big), the retainer bolts are of extremely dubious quality in that they don't seem to be the right width/thread for the holes they're supposed to fit in, the circuit diagrams misleading and the plastic PUP surround for the bridge PUP probably the cheapest piece of plastic I've ever come across :)

    However....

I quite like the sound

As I said, I'll update the Ric thread when I feel I've something more concrete to say

    Chris
I was just composing a PM to you!

I'm thinking about dropping them into this; as you'll see by the cavities (not pretty), the necessity of whether or not the screws line up etc. isn't so important. There's some cheapish sets up on eBay (USA) at the moment (£120.00). I was (and still am) interested in whether they have the clank.
