Ah okay thanks, is there any difference between the Davie504 model and the standard other than finish?
I'm in the Midlands so I'll have to sort a day trip out 😁
Nope. All just finish differences.

Sounds great, I'd love to try one out, will have to scour the local shops, or do you have a UK base where people can try things out?
Slim jazz neck sounds fab, always prefer those necks.
None of the shops carry the regular EVO. I think Gear4Music has a few of the Davie504 ones.
We have our HQ in Bristol if you're passing (or close by)

Hi!
2 hours ago, ChrisLovatt said:I've had my eye on a Chowny Retrovibe Evo for a while now (the standard one or the Davie504 model), has anyone ever had/played one? General thoughts on it?
I'm looking for that Stingray-esque kinda sound and the Evo seems like a good choice over an OLP or a SUB ray4.
So. Biased opinion alert!
Our goal with these was to create a 24 fret lightweight bass that sounded exactly like a vintage stingray. The stinger pre-amp is based on the original 1977 pre-earnie balls stingray preamp (it's kind of all boost and no cut) and the choice of pickups means this bass sounds pretty damn close!
There was a video of the "Old Smoothie" Stingray on Andertons website and it was notable how close it sounded. We're pretty pleased.
We have stock of Surf Green, Cream and Black (my favourite) if you were considering one.

They still have a jazz width neck. They do however feature the Stinger pre-amp as standard.

I have a damn heavy and neck diving bass so the only way to play comfortable is an extra-wide strap.
Sure. I get that my straps aren't gonna be for everyone. Certainly not at my target price.

Excellent!
whilst they’re too thin for my basses, the red/gold elephant would be perfect for my red/gold Jazzmaster!
I have a vegan guitarist mate who loves elephants, so I’d get him both versions of that.
let me know if you manage to do these and I’ll order straight away
No probs. Now get yourself down to Greggs! **** <- topical reference alert

I use a Levy M4 strap that is one-ply and 3.5" leather. They cost about $25. You could double-wide your colorful patterns (get some paisley patterns ) , backed with rough suede leather. It would be too wide so you could trim the patterns to make a deluxe 4" strap.
I can get wider ribbon and webbing. But they're not as easy to come by. You can't really trim the ribbons as if you take the edge off it would unravel.

Yeah.
We took that in account with the nuts on our basses (we moved from bone to synthetic bone) but have not managed to find something that works as well for this yet. Basses = Vegan. Straps = Not Vegan.
We're working on it though.

Vegan??

Hiya, are the ends actual real leather?
i know it says “leather” but sometimes that turns out to by synthetic...
Yeah man! Real leather

They're finally here. http://chownybass.com/product-category/chowny/bass-straps/
Thanks for everybody's feedback. Currently they are 5cm/2" wide while I source wider ribbon and webbing. I picked a cotton webbing so that it's less slippy on the back.
Thanks again everybody.

Hi
In January I am going to be attending NAMM again, and sadly my usual helpers are not available. Ideally if it was somebody who was pretty good at truss rod adjustment 😉
Last time Silvia Bluejay and Happy Jack helped me out and I'm eternally grateful. You guys rock.
If anybody is thinking of going, I'd dearly love somebody who could help me cover the stand (otherwise I'm facing 4 days of not being able to go to the toilet or get anything to eat). I can give you entry and you can take one of the basses home with you at the end of the show (unless it's one of the new models as I need those for a few things yet).
Is anybody up for this?

I'm up for it if you can spare the space for many fine basses.

NAMM isn't open to the public.
It is - you just need an invite. They're pretty easy to come by. I've got some if anybody wants to go. 😉

I'm hoping that the NAMM method will apply, as in, one stand with both basses and guitars, plus anything else that the company may sell. Otherwise it'll be utter chaos...
WHAT? You expect me to share space with those WEAK FINGERED GUITARISTS?! 😉

Funny how often it's me!

No need for any more speculation, all plans for 2019 will be announced in formal press releases to basschat and the wider public hopefully later today.
From what I've heard, with an eye both inside and outside the business,, if they can get this right it will be a great development for both manufacturers and us consumers... Fingers crossed!
While it was nice to know every punter walking past my stand was a bassist, it's probably a good idea. Certainly if it helps contain costs and keeps the event growing/surviving it's good with me. I feel for guys like you who will have to split their presence over two floors/sections though.

Nope. I'm not going that upmarket for my first foray into accessories.

I don’t do inches. I like the comfort strap; so however wide that is.
Multiply by 2.5 to get cm.

As wide as possible for me - although I think most of my straps are 2.5", which are perfectly comfortable.
What designs are you looking at?
Exciting!
I wasn't gonna get into that - as I didn't want to get too salesy and annoy anybody (and by extension the mods). But since you ask :

We'll have a pair of Mark Bass Cabs this year, with in ear monitor amplifiers running to Headphones. So best of both worlds. Hopefully it'll be quieter than where we were at NAMM this year, where the ambient noise in the room was 100-105db.
