1. Ashdown Mag-C210-T-300 - Mag EVO II. Only been used as my practice amp and so never been gigged and in perfect condition. Looking for £180 o.n.o. Pick up only as they are a bit heavy to post, though I would be happy to meet you within a reasonable distance from Devizes, Wilts. Listed on the Bay now. 2.
Nice job it looks good.

    What's the next project then?
Thanks Gary, no more projects on the horizon. Just play and enjoy my bass for now. :)

  3. Well, I have put my bass back together now. Had to rout out the neck pocket to get the neck to fit. Have added some Schaller tuners and string tree, some Ernie Ball flatwounds and finally a bridge and pick up ash tray. Didn't touch the pick ups or electrics and I'm really pleased with the way it feels and sounds. This bass has cost me in the region of £700 and I could have bought a nice new Fender for that I suppose, but I have put my mark on this and it's a keeper. :)

  4.
MM necks are supposed to be compatible with Fender bodies - if it's not a Fender body then I would enlarge the pocket & leave the neck as is. If it is a Fender body? Up to you, which has more resale value, a standard MM neck or the body?
I bought this bass as a genuine Fender, but now I have my doubts! How can I tell if the body is in fact a genuine Fender?

  5. Bought a new Mighty Mite neck for my Fender P project. It's a lovely neck, but it's slightly too wide to fit into the neck pocket, so what's the best way to get it to fit? Sand the neck, chisel out the pocket? Is it a job I could tackle, with no experience, or should I get a luthier to do the work. What do you reckon?

  6.
Thanks for the tips and pm, most helpful.

I was planning to deal with the same company for the lacquer. Did you use the sealer/primer coat that they advise prior to the proper coatings.
If I do the job the way they recommend, it means purchasing three different cans of lacquer products.
No I didn't seal it as there was a light lacquer already applied. Just used the tinted lacquer and the satin clear lacquer to finish.

  7.
Nice job, I'm about to do the same to a Squier neck, tinting and decal that is.

Who did you use for the decal and lacquer?
The lacquer came from these guys http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT

you have a pm about the decal. :) Apologies if this sounds like I'm trying to teach a hen how to suck eggs, but based on my own mistakes here I have three pieces of advice. First make sure your neck fits the pocket before you start to tint, second do the tint slowly, don't try to apply too much at once or it will run and thirdly when you cut the decal down to size get it as close as you can to the print because when you slide it off the backing paper the margin you left around the printed area will be how big your decal will be and it's not so easy to trim it once it's off the backing paper, if that makes sense

  8. +1 for Mighty Mite. Just had a precision neck delivered and it's very nice. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Mighty-Mite-MM...056-i1519588.gc

  9. Well, one learns from one's mistakes as they say. Took the neck off today only to find that my Mighty Mite neck doesn't quite fit, so it will need a bit of sanding down to get a good tight fit into the pocket. Only problem is that I have already given the neck and headstock a good spray with a nice brown lacquer which I will have to sand off again now....DOH! Well I won't touch the headstock as I have also just applied a nice decal. As an aside, as I thought, the neck plate isn't original as there is a date stamped in the neck pocket May 19 1990. Also another number, looks like 410, not sure what that is! The neck plate serial number 258837, I think, suggests something in the early 60's.

  10. Not really 100% sure this qualifies as a rebuild, but I have a Fender P bass, not sure of the date yet because I suspect the serial number on the neck plate is not an accurate guide as I don't think it's original. The neck is twisted, so I intend to replace the neck, bridge, tuners and strings. Firstly this is my bass as it is at the time of typing.

  11. Ok ok, one last question. Once I have lacquered the headstock, I'm going to use a light brown tint, and applied the decal, will I have to use a clear lacquer to seal it, or do you think I could just give the whole lot another quick mist with the tinted stuff? At £10 a tin I don't really want to splash out for a clear lacquer if I'm not going to use much.

  12.
Spray, a brush will take off the decal. Oh, and mask off the back of your tuner holes, or it'll drip all down the back of your neck, like wot mine did....
Dave, thanks very much for all your advice. Had a look at your link as well, lots of good advice there too. Will post pics as I go. :)

  13. Thanks for your replies, I have the neck now and it has a very light coat of lacquer so will need a few more I think. One more question, spray or paint on? (I assume the fretboard needs to be masked off!)

  14. I am going to put a new neck on my Fender P. I have ordered a Mighty Mite neck for it and I want to put a decal on it, I think the neck will have a light satin lacquer on it, so can I just apply the decal direct or will I have to sand down the headstock at all? Also once applied I guess It would be best to apply a lacquer over it to help stop it from peeling off, so can anyone recommend a lacquer to use and the best way of doing this? Sorry for all the questions, but I haven't done this before and I want to make as good a job of it as I can.

  15. Just thought I would update this post. I have decided to swap the neck out so I have a Mighty Mite neck winging it's way to me as I type :) I am changing the tuners to Schaller and have bought a Gotoh 203 bridge. Will add a bridge and pickup ashtray because I like that look and might as well get some new strings as well. I like a nice deep bass sound so any recommendations on strings welcome. I will post picks as it progresses for anyone who might be remotely interested! :)

  16. I'm planning on changing the bridge on my Fender P. I looked at the Badass, but frankly they are too expensive and quite difficult to source at the moment, so I have decided on a Gotoh bridge. I'm a little confused however! What is the difference, if any, between the 201 and the 203?

  17. Maybe a second hand neck is the way to go then. It's ironic, I have owned three Squier basses and been pleased with them all. I still have a nice CV P bass, but thought I fancied a Fender. Although the tone of the Fender I think is superior, I never had any issues with the other basses. Looks like I might end up with a Fender body and a Squier neck then...ho hum!
