  1. I suppose at this point the only reason to stay would be that it's your only source of income.

If it's not it seems pretty clear that it's not working so isn't worth your time.

I have played in bands with people I didn't really like & other bands where I didn't really like the music but there has to be something positive there to make you stay, music shouldn't be a chore unless it's your job.

I was reluctant to use a streaming service for quite a while, as the payment per stream, that artists get, is pretty miniscule and I felt this was unfair. But I did some research and found that some are more generous than others. Tidal is the most generous, followed by Apple and Deezer. I don't know where Amazon comes in the list.

Worth noting here that the royalties calculated & paid out by the platforms isn't done on a per stream basis (despite what many high profile artists think), it's not even done on a per artist basis. Fair point though, the artists don't get much cash from streaming but it's a mess of the labels making. It's not just digital though, the whole industry is structured so that the artists receive the smallest share of the income.

Speaking of messes - I've moved house three times with my CD collection in boxes, they're all just sat in the loft taking up space as I don't even have a CD player anymore!

  3. Spotify for most things for me, if I decide I really like an album I'll then go & buy it on vinyl.

Given the price of new vinyl these days, I very rarely buy without listening to the album a few times first to confirm it's worth it.

I do occasionally pop into the local record stores and buy used records without pre-listening though, good way to burn through an hour of the weekend.

    I’d personally rate Bravewood>> Nash>> Limelight.  I’ve had examples of each…………and I’m not even a relic lover!

Again that's just price order isn't it?

If Bravewood & Nash are trying to take Fender Custom Shop business, I don't think Limelight are - they're gunning for the Mexican roadworn business. Not really a fair comparison I don't think.

No idea if they do Mustangs or not, wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult to do so though assuming parts are available.

  5. Ok so you can see some of the cost saving elements but that neck looks great and overall looks wise at least it seems really good! These should prove popular if they sound as good as they look!

At least the strings stay on the neck and line up with the pick-up which is better than some people can manage.

  6. Other than the stingray they're all slightly quirky designs, is that what you're after?

I think Warwick make great 5 strings with incredible tone but the thumb is an extreme design - if it's one to rule them all I'd probably look more towards a streamer for playability & looks.

Other than that I always look at Sandberg's with a view to being my next bass but haven't actually bought one yet.

  7. What did you go for in the end?

I'm currently using one of the 1x12's from my main rig with a lower power small class-D head, pretty good for practice volumes and saves the space of having two different set-ups.

I'm considering going smaller & getting some active studio monitors for my office and just practicing through my laptop instead so would be interested to hear if you did that when you were considering it.

What's up with the phrase "bass shaped object"? It's unmistakably a bass. A real, recordable and gigable instrument.

If someone actually wants to play music any of these basses will be all the instrument they ever need.

Have you played one? How do you know that?

They certainly look like basses, but looking at the natural one you can see they're made to an extremely low price point.

When something is that cheap, someone or something is being exploited. The retailer, factory & distribution are all taking a profit out of that so it only leaves the customers being sold a dud, the workers being exploited for low wages or the environment be savaged. Or a combo there of.

People really need to think more before buying this cheapest of the cheap landfill fodder. The world deserves better than this.

Thomann/HB can churn out ok quality at this price point because they ship an obscene amount of boxes so benefit from economies of scale. PMT do not. They look like basses but at this price point outside of HB, they will be absolute garbage. Hence, bass shaped object.

They were last year's limited edition, as they do every year, and they were only around as long as the very limited supply lasted.

The 2023 model appears to be a Corvette $$ with an ebony fingerboard instead of wenge, a custom 12th fret inlay and what looks like a Macassar ebony top. Which isn't exactly spectacular, they've done several versions of the Corvette $$ already with various top woods. Reactions on the Warwick forum were underwhelmed to say the least. Looks like there will be both a teambuilt version with bolt-on neck and a masterbuilt version with neck-through construction, similar to what they did with the 2022 Streamette.

    This is the masterbuilt neck-through:

    0295390014BDXXXXWW_09.jpg.4f461a27694310eb1eaaf3b22002992e.jpg

It is quite nice looking but I haven't stayed across the ltd runs so maybe it is a bit boring if people have seen it all before.

Is neck-through new for corvettes? They didn't offer that when I bought mine (early 00's).

  10. Nice - the Vintera's are great basses, they took over from the "classic xx's" range which were essentially unrelliced roadworns.

I just couldn't get on with constantly flicking between short & long scale so my Mustang didn't stick with me - my mind was just unable to adapt, so back to long scale I went!

I have a bit of Mustang GAS but would also like the P width neck. Pity none of the cheaper ones have that….

The Vintera does, admittedly not all that much cheaper - more like a middle ground price wise.

Also there are P necks & there are P necks. They have the 41mm nut a P has, but still felt tiny compared to my CS57 P but that's seriously chunky!

Has anyone else got the combo and have found a usable sound?

I'm genuinely interested as I really wanted this amp to work for me.

Maybe I've got a faulty amp.

Firstly - sorry the purchase hasn't worked out, that's definitely a faulty amp though - you should 100% be returning it for a full refund.

What's the reason for it needing to be a combo? Just the one hand carry aspect?

I'm another Ampeg pf-50t user - for home/studio I use it with a single 1x12 & it sounds great, everything you'd want from a small 50w tube amp. So it should be possible for Fender to do too - my amp+cab will be a similar size to that Fender.

  13. Are you specifically trying to save weight? Class-D amps are great for that but when using for a rock tone (ie slightly over-driven) I've found a lot of them just seem to add a fake fizz over the top of your tone then make that louder or quieter, they're not very dynamic.

Orange are the archetypical pub rock bass amp & the terror bass is good. If you don't mind weight, I think their OB1 amps sounds really good.

Darkglass, very much have the fake fizz thing going on.

I've never seen anyone using a Blackstar bass amp so can't comment on those. Though the fact that no one seems to be using them probably tells something, maybe just that we bassists are very conservative (small c, not the evil C).

I don't currently use any of the above btw. Best bet is going to some shops!

Well, that is the Spector shape though ;)

    That Warwick started using afterwards

In all seriousness though - you're always going to get neck dive on thunderbird bass type shapes. I guess your choices are use a grippy strap or don't take your hand off the neck when playing open notes!

  15. What is the P lacking for you that makes you look for alternatives?

I think all bassists should own [at least] a P and a J, so that is the obvious answer. After that... depends on the kind of rock you're talking about - Warwick's have incredible growl that can work very well when needing an aggressive tone but looks wise they might not work.

  16. We all know what it's going to sound like clean anyway - it's a Fender parts bass. Imagine every other Fender PJ you've heard & you're there.

By and large Fender signature models are aesthetic presets. I think this one is claiming different pick-ups and preamp? They'll be slight tweaks on what is already available on other Fender models at most - this is the whole ethos of Fender.

Do you want a PJ? Do you think silver burst is better than 3TSB? Do you have 1.4k to burn? Three ticks and you've got yourself a new bass!

  17. £60 delivered?!

Surely you've got to have a threshold before an acquisition limit applies? £60 is like two rounds at the pub and you can't put limits on those. So this is just a free bass that you've kindly saved from who knows what miserable end!
