thank you everybody for the kind words. i'll be quite honest and appreciate why no real takers. it is difficult to appreciate how loud these cabs are unless you have a 100m jack lead. the projection is massive compared to a closed or reflex box. however, as a bass player, you stand pretty near your cab, so all cabs will sound much the same for given driver efficiency. so as usual, watts isn't the whole answer, a 3kw kettle doesn't make much noise, nor a 100watt lightbulb. it's all down to how efficiently you use that power, in this case, generate noise. that's what the bfm cabs do, so 500watts into this compared with a conventional 2 x 12 would certainly be equal and carry further. the disadvantage being that they are a bit size lumpy.

fraid i've gone off the idea of splitting, it's now or never unless anybody wants the empty cab for their own drivers.

one way or another, this cab goes or i do. just don't do the gigs to warrant it. so it's up again for a while and if no takers, i'll strip it and bin the rest.
then i might build another one.

it's fitted with 2x10" eminence beta 10a's which i think are rated at 250 watt rms, so 500watt for the cab. however, the bfm cabs are designed to maximise the efficient conversion of watts into noise, as you know.

not that clever. perhaps i should mention taking out a few components when the hole saw went through quicker than i expected. ouch.
sounds like you are practical enough to do the control if you think it's worth it. i did it cos it annoyed me and don't get out enough.
i like the amp, not sure about all the programmable facilities, sounds fine as it is.

well, happy in my soul but it's not worth the effort if you are unsure of your skills, there's a lot of potential disasters. electronic assembly is one of my jobs.
I forgot to mention the most rewarding mod was to fit 2 speakons on the back panel, in parl with the silly jacks.

further to, and for anoraks like me who spend hours on things that don't matter, the 'sound type' control is theoretically simply mended with a burst of proper cleaner. however , the practice is not for the faint-hearted. the control is in fact a sealed 10k pot with lumps built into the rotation to simulate a switch. all you have to do is to get at it by taking all the knobs off, remove the pot fixing nuts and metal panel face panel ( the true anorak will of course thoroughly clean this to make it sound better), which will reveal the sound type control. you will notice it is a sealed pot so you can either be sensible and put it all back together and go down the pub, or you can laboriously desolder it, destroy the little rivets holding it together, squirt [u]proper[/u] pot cleaner in and put it back together. i used bits of solid core copper wire for new rivets. solder it back in, reassemble everything and be amazed that you now have 2 extra sounds that you won't use. but my soul is cleansed.
