  1. Thank you for both replying. Reason I thought they aren't a standard is the G&L site says the American L2000 pots wouldn't fit the Tribute - 'Will not fit Tribute Series models without enlarging the mounting holes for the pots and using knurled knobs for solid-shaft pots available elsewhere in this store. Enlarging the holes for the pots may be done by a highly experienced technician using a reamer tool, as there is risk of damaging the body finish.'

In answer to your question Gary I think the USA models use CTS pots so that would be the obvious upgrade but it's a pity it's not a straight swap. Out of interest did you order direct from G&L?

BassBunny, thank you giving me the values of the pots, they should make life a lot easier for sourcing replacements! I'll have a look at the Bourns range as they have a really good rep.

Frustrating thing is I've hardly used the Tribute for this to happen and I've never abused her in any way. Suppose just bad luck but I've heard of others having problems with the standard Tribute pots too.

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated!

I know nothing about the technology but as a Zoom B3 owner I know there is a problem with power supply. I think it's to do with poor earthing and so varies between venues and this may be a cause. Anyway, try using battery power.

I tend to use a usb power plug (like the sort you get with many mobile phones etc) and that seems less noisy than the wall wart supplied. Would that also get around the earth issue you mention too?

  3. Cheers Neepheid!I had seen that schematic but wasn't sure if it applied to tributes so thanks for clarifying that. I was going to attempt the repair myself but seeing how messy it his inside I'm kinda hovering whether to take it to a engineer instead especially as the toggle switches aren't standard so I wouldn't want to screw it up!

  4. Hello there, I've been looking for the wiring diagram for my Indonesian made tribute. Apparently the wiring differs from the USA made L2000's. I need one because one of the wires from the series/parallel switch has come away and I've no idea where it goes! I've looked everywhere with not much luck, can anyone kindly assist?

Be aware that a lot of 4-core and screen cable isn't very robust, due the fact that manufacturers try and cram the extra cores into a standard 2core and screen cable thickness. This leads to the the signal cables being very skinny and easily damaged unless you are always extra careful about coiling the cable up when putting it away.

I wonder if using two cables, one single shielded and one two core shielded might be a better option?

  6. Thanks for the replies!

What I mean is 3 core shielded (sorry). I was thinking of using 4 core shielded and not use one of the cores, just seems wasteful though! I'm starting to think 3 core doesn't exist!

Another option I was considering was using 4 pieces of 22awg cable (one strand cable being shield) and twist or even plait them together as I've read somewhere this effectively shields them?

  7. Hello everyone,

I'm about to change the pots in my Squier P bass special. I usually fit a couple of cts full size pots for the volume and a mini alpha pot as I can't fit anything bigger in. I've looked for mini cts pots in vain but no luck, does anyone know a decent alternative? Or am I being a fuss pot and should just use alpha pots?

  8. Hi there everyone,

I'm looking to buy a pair of headphones for monitoring music production, monitoring recording and the like. My budget isn't massive so something fairly cheap and cheerful but but will give a clean unbiased sound reproduction if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
