I've had 2 now. Both 5 strings... and I've loved each one.... would happily buy a shine over anything else

Funnily enough... no.... LMAO -
I've got a Shine SB55 5 string bass and to be fair have hardly seen any others!!! It's a cheap bass (£150 off ebay lol) but the sound out of it is fantastic and could easily rival better branded basses with higher price tags... I can't be the only one out there who owns a Shine??
Anyone? -
and just for the record.. I make a rubbish bearded lady (See pic <-----------------) lol!!!
Im sure your legs, arse, and ears are always welcome on the pages.
Oh dear, this thread is wildly off topic. Anyway, i was wondering wether you get noticeably more sustain with those big Traben bridges like you have on your OLP? Anyone know if you can get the bridges seperately? Ive tried a search in the past to no avail.
I wouldn't say noticeably more. It's not a good sound but isn't particularly meaty at all. Much more suited to funk/pop, which is why I'm looking to sell it. Got my Shine and my Dean now which are much more suited to what I play rock/metal. -
You should seek circus work!
I should.. but I'm trying to perfect my bearded lady act... -
Yeh, I love it when you get a really long, elegant, graceful pair of legs that look like they're constantly struggling to hold up a big flabby ass.
Hmph.... fine..
*skulks off and swears never to post full length photos anywhere ever again...* -
Well sorry to disappoint but I'm fairly sure most of you guys are going to be rivalling me on the boobage front, but I make up for it by being 5 ft 9 and having legs up to my ears :brow:
Well, us chaps seem to be hijacking the ladies thread here. What are we like?
Well it seems that no matter whether it'd a ladies thread or not... the blokes will always hijack... but with ladies threads I think he blokes are ever hopeful for a bit of boobage....
I think CK was able to view a statistic which showed the split.
Have a word with one of the techy mods.
Cool!
I think if it's your first gig, you'll feel better with an amp of some sort.
It may be the case that the venue will only allow the headline and 2nd headline to use their own backline, it's quite common in some London venues with small stages. I would confirm that with the venue well before the gig. You might be able to use one of the other band's bass amps, if you seek out the bass players on the day, ask nicely, buy them a pint and promise them you won't fiddle with their eq they'll often let you use theirs. Certainly worked for me when I played those types of venue, although the odd tosser refused of course.
If you do get a bit nervous before you go on, find a quiet place, and do the 7/11 breathing technique for a minute or two, in through the nose for a count of 7 and out through the mouth for a count of 11, or thereabouts. As long as the exhale is a few seconds longer than the inhale, you'll trick you brain into suppressing the fight or flight response.
Have a great one!
Well the venue have said for everyone to bring amps so I'm presuming that includes me! lol -
Meant to say very best of luck, Sarah!
Don't even worry about what the sound guy does, certainly not about the mic or DI argument, that's out of your hands.
Just make sure you can hear yourself and the rest of the band and you'll be fine. Maybe take a combo with you to be on the safe side.
What sort of venue is it?
Are you nervous?
Cheers!
The venue is a rock pub with stage, 200 capacity apparently. I say we're 'supposed' to be doing it as although we've agreed with the venue the guitarists want to see where we are in 2 more practices and then decide 100%. Although we've sorted a list of songs and are practicing them and getting backing vocals sorted, as well as planning to take all our own amps to practice one week so I really can't see any reason why they'd want us to pull out. It's 1/2 hr and 2nd in on a 4 band bill and we're doing a mix of originals and covers.
Personally I'm really excited I've always wanted to gig and not had a chance to get nervous yet..although I'm sure I will if they agree to go ahead! -
Thanks guys.. I've not gigged before so all this is new to me...
-
Potentially have a gig coming up on the 30th August and have been debating this with drummy.... what do you guys think? Is it better to have the bass through the PA or an onstage amp?
-
IF you've only been playing 3 and a 1/2 months I would concentrate on getting used to playing and building up a good groove, learning from ear etc, before moving onto more advanced techniques. There's more to bass than playing one note at a time.
Just wondering......how many female members are there on BC....Anyone know?
Not many I don't think... but we're around... -
Purely a rock/metaller here. My band is heavy southern rock, and music wise I like anything from cradle of filth to morbid angel to lacuna coil and everything inbetween!
-
I have a multi effects pedal and a headphone adapter so I can plug my bass into the pedal and then have the sound through headphones. Much better for those late night sessions where you don't want to upset the neighbours.
-
Fifth element... The crow.... Baz Lurman's Romeo and Juliet.

No gig for us BUT we had a great practice. Got together before and have agreed to do a gig and chosen a setlist. 30th August is the gig so we're working hard as it'll be our very first gig and a mix of covers and originals so got a lot of work to do! Was the first practice in a while that you could tell me were all working towards something and the feel was totally different... felt great and we were all drained at the end... Onwards and upwards from here!! I've never gigged before so needless to say am really excited. Any pre gig tips would be appreciated!

I haven't seen many pointy 5'ers out there.. but the sound from my dean is fab and I'd recommend it to anyone!
