  1. So, I opted for the black 4 string acoustic (fretted) and it is the opposite of a decoration, since the only faults are in the finish. The lacquer or whatever it is, is a wee bit rough in a couple of wee spots around the connection with the neck and is a wee bit thin in one place on the headstock, so the wood is shining through a tiny bit if you look really closely.

Not bad for 44 sheets :)

  2. Have pulled the trigger on one a lovely green one of these and received it today.

Up until reading the affordable 1975 bass thread I was totally happy with my sub ray 5, but that's the danger of basschat for you. I wouldn't have even looked at the thread if it hadn't been my YOB.

I tried the superglue fix on the A string, but failed so used the rodma patented tiny folded piece of tinfoil fix, which is perfect until you have to change strings in anger.

I changed the strings immediately so, Jose, since you were so kind to offer me a try out of the differing preamp sub tones, if you want another set of Jack and Danny strings, they are yours for the having.

It's a really fun little bass to play, my fingers are now raw. :)

  3. Hello

Am selling my musicman S.U.B 5 to make room for an incoming 4 string bass. The bass is in fantastic condition with no visible wear to the body or paintwork on the neck, however there are five tiny dents in the neck caused by the strings (perhaps the previous owner restrained the strings causing this) in the timber on the machine head side of the nut, which should be visible in the closeup photo.

I am only selling this since I have found myself never using the b string and since I only have barbie doll hands I'm going for something with a smaller neck and without the expensive thumbrest :)

The bass is blue and I have changed the pickguard for a black one, but will include the original (fake chequerplate ) since it is safely tucked away in a drawer.

The bass weighs approx 5 kilos and doesn't suffer from neckdive at all unlike some lighter-weight five string basses.

I am based in Edinburgh and would prefer buyer to collect, or arrange to meet within a sensible distance.

    Edit: Now with photos

I'd like to register a complaint, please.

I've got this terrible GAS for Mark Bass and this is NOT helping. I've got the funds, I come near Maidstone from time to time...

I just don't have the need! I only play in my lounge and Mrs G [s]will[/s] would kill me.

+1 (except for being in the vicinity)

OK, here it is, not yet fitted (but slipped into place on top of the original, it's single ply, ever so slightly smaller than the checquerplate effort. screw holes appear to allign perfectly and i have not removed the protective film yet. just realised how bad the photo is. it doesn't show how neat a fit it is around the pickup, but it is great.

It's the very last item listed on the last page of the ernieball.co.uk spares webpage

The one thing to note is that they do not come with black (or any) screws, so i have ordered some and these arrived today. I now have too many, so if you would like some let me know and I'll post them to you. it's the least i can do after giving that bum steer on the stingray

I have had mine for a week now and LOVE it. Mine is a 5 and I'm struggling to find a replacement guard, especially after being chastised by discreet for wanting a pearl guard!

I ordered a replacement from strings and things for my fiver. I'll post up a photo when i get out so you can see it, in case it is not the correct one.

Haha I had a go and went on playing email tennis with hutt miriam. Despite my perseverance that I travel all over the south and can meet anywhere it wasn't possible to meet. Shame......

    Good effort.

Perhaps we should sign them up for every online mailing list we can think of :)

  8. other than the good advices above i can offer the following useless nuggets

I used to play in a hardcore band and would always get cramp in my hand when playing live, despite being fine during practise, which meant finishing some songs using my thumb and index finger pressed together to form a "pick" when i finally let go (mid third song or thereabouts)

The main differences between practising at home (or in a rehearsal room with the band) and playing live for me were

temperature/stress levels (hand gets sweaty so have to grip tighter)
speed (tempo) increase, which might not be an issue for you depending on the style of music
rest between songs, rehearsals are normally leisurely rather than back to back fury.

Try and practise as if you were playing a gig and it'll get better

and stretch your thumb out gently to alleviate the symptoms a bit

  9. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/music-man-sub-bass-ernie-ball/1038685277

This was on ebay (or at least these photos were) and ended at £265, listed as being in bournemouth (identical description)

I don't really see why it would then be listed on gumtree for half the price

i feel a bit like I'm spamming this site today :(
