1. Haven't had chance to take any yet - had to go straight back to work  . Concentration is slipping haha. It had exactly the tone I was after, and it is stupidly nice to play. Apparently it'll be pretty unique too - the grains in the wood won't be the same as another. Good thing is that I have a gig tonight. Bad thing? Once there I realised I needed a new tuner, strap, strap locks and stand xD

Here's some pictures from the website.

Definitely check out Mayones, they are great instruments.
I like mine much more than the Roscoe I used to own.

If you end up buying that beautiful Mayones Comodous they have I will be so so jealous.

    It's a great shop,you will have a great day.
    Enjoy

That's exactly what I came home with! I tried out about 6 basses overall, narrowed it down to a Rocoe and that, but there was no comparison for me really!

  3. Thanks all :). Been on the bass direct website again this morning and found at least 5 basses I want to try out (all 5 strings - I'd already decided on that), PRS, Dingwall, Mayones and a LGW and I'm sure once I get there I will find even more I hadn't considered.

Going up tomorrow morning, so I'll let you know if I come back with anything nice :P

  4. As per title, I'm on the look out for a new bass. One day this week I'm planning on a trip to bass direct, but I need some advice first (I know I'll get good advice from them too). Currently, I have a '99 Fender Precision and I love it. I find that I can get a large variety of sounds out of it and it suits me down to the ground. However, I've just came into a wad of cash (long story) and I'm on the look out for something new to play with. I've had the Fender for 10 years now and previously nothing I've played has kept up with it. But I realised I was only trying 'main stream' basses - other Fenders, Rick's, Musicmans, etc - hence the trip to bass direct. I've had a fretless before and enjoyed playing it but it didn't get the use, so I'm not going there again haha. I'm looking for something thats going to mean I can take both basses to a gig and find different times to use each, I don't want a replacement. I've been looking at Dingwalls and have fallen in love, but I want to get some opinions on other basses I should try whilst there.

    Price range ~£2000

    Thanks in advance :)

  5. What's wrong with the OC3? Only asking because there's one on ebay for £50 2nd hand haha. Also, does anyone have any experience with Mooer pure octave pedals?

  6. I know there has been many posts on this before, but having been through them I'm still not sure what to go for! I've never been into using effects, but the only effect I've ever enjoyed using was the built in Ashdown octave thing in my old combo. Now I've moved to MarkBass, I'm thinking about buying a seperate octaver. I'm only looking to spend ~£50, so probably looking at second hand.

What I want from the pedal:

    - Easy to set up and remember your last setting
    - The ability to use as a synth type thing, again easy to set up and not getting in the way of switching back to the octave setting
    - Mainly just want a nice octave sound.

  7. I have owned this amp for around a year from new. I am looking to sell to fund a new amplifier. This is a great sounding amp and I am sad to see it go. It has built in compression, sub-harmonics and overdrive. Ashdown's sub-harmonics sound terrific through this combo. It has been lightly gigged over the last year and is still in very good condition. It also comes with a lightly padded Ashdown case.

    [s]£300[/s] £280 O.N.O

    Location: Northamptonshire

Sorry about the sideways image, they aren't like that on my laptop

Mark Bass gig bags are disgracefully overpriced!
Seconded! My old Ashdown cover cost £35 last year and that was straight from them!

Had a look at maplins and there are some decent hard cases for £35 (where you can just the foam out), which is half the price of the MarkBass ones. I'll be taking a trip over there later this week :).

  9. Hi all,

I'm searching for a Markbass gig bag. Does anyone know of any where that sells them fairly cheaply? I've just purchased a markbass little mark 250 and need to get a gig bag as I'm out gigging next weekend, however I can't afford to spend too much on one.

I've seen the Markbass ones for £70, but can't find any cheaper. Don't mind if it's not a markbass one as long as I know it fits perfectly!

Bassgear isn't far either... would certainly check out what they have in stock.
They are a real treasure chest of top end cabs, IMO...and amps for that matter..AND basses..!!

Thanks, I'll have to take a look :)

Has anyone seen any second hand Ashdown Mag c210t-300 EVO III's lately? Trying to get a grasp of the second hand rates for them. There's a few on ebay going between 200 and 300, but nobody seems to be buying them :/ .

Do either bassgear or bass direct do trade ins does anyone know?

  11. Thanks all. Next step for me is to get to a shop to try some out at the same time. The problem I had with the Ashdown is that I went by myself and thought 'wow', but in reality I should of taken someone else to sit back and compare them with me. Lesson learnt, but now I need to make sure I don't make the same mistake by buying a markbass amp without testing others first :).

  12. With the fender rumbles, are you both suggesting combos or a head/cab mix?

I've been looking at the Rumble 115 Cabinet with the Rumble 500 head - thinking that it would be better to get the larger head, as I can afford it, as it would allow me to upgrade the cab in the future?

  13. Fender amps had been on my radar too, again it's trying to find somewhere I can try everything I'm looking at. With the fenders, what's the difference between the continuous and program outputs? I do like the sound of it, as to me it sounds like you can use the amp at half the power for smaller gigs?

  14. Hi all,

Last year I purchased an Ashdown C210T-300 EVO III but I have come to realise that not only is it a big lump that weighs too much it also doesn't have the perfect sound for me.

What do I want from a new amp?

Light/portable

Preferably a combo

Sounds nice in a variety of situations (pub gigs, festivals, etc.)

Budget ~£700
My bass is a '99 fender precision. I play in a folk/rock band but we play/experiment with a wide range of genres.

Mentioned above that I would prefer a combo, however I'm welcome to suggestions about a head/cab mix as long as they are portable. I played a mark bass little mark III with 2x mark bass cabs earlier today which I loved, but it's £250 above my budget and the owner of the shop wants to sell it as a complete set (I asked about just one cab with the head). My worry is that now I've played that, the smaller mark bass amps won't sound as nice? I've also been looking to find a music shop in the east midlands (northamptonshire) that stocks a variety of amps, but other than PMT I can't find much - and they don't really offer what I'm interested in.

I willing to look at second hand amps, but I'm not looking to purchase anything until June. Trying to get a good idea of different amps so I don't make the same mistake as last time.

  15. I know there is already a thread about what first fretless bass to buy, and there's some good advice there too, but my question is slightly different.

I'm looking at buying a fretless bass, but cannot afford the higher price tags. My current bass is a Fender p bass (99/2000).

I really like the look of the Aria Pro II fretless that's currently on eBay, anyone got any knowledge on it? He's sent me extra pictures and information and it looks really nice, but I wanted to see if anyone's played one before.

I've also been looking at a fretless jazz Fender http://www.guitargui...roduct-overview, I'm guessing this is the mexican one? It doesn't say but I see others (none signature) that are £1000+

Any reviews on Warick Rockbass too?
