  1. I played a 21st for my bosses daughter last night. In a marquee in their courtyard. Wealthy people sure party hard. Didn't end up starting til 11pm and finished up at 2-30am. Then I got lost in their house looking for the mythical massive tray of cheese, that's not a metaphor or anything. It was definitely there at one point. Quite a surreal evening actually! Very enjoyable though, they would've danced to anything.

  2. I have finally noticed what's wrong with my b30. I only noticed as I had to quickly remind myself of the intensely exciting I will survive by oor Gloria after packing my gear into the car for tomorrow. I dropped an unlit fag into the sound hole. The label says "Harley Benton five string fretless acoustic bass guitar" on the inside. It's a four string fretted. Two months I took to notice!

  3. I think that there is a slight misconception that because they are nearly all made using cnc machines, the quality is more consistent. In order to have consistent quality, you need a good QC operation to keep the programmers and operators on their toes. As a supervisor in a cnc machine shop, I can confirm that shoddy workmanship is more common than you'd think.

  4. I've decided not to renew my subscription, by the end of the year, id get one through the door and realise I hadn't read the last one yet. For me, there isn't enough written on the tinkering aspect. Testing pickups, tone circuits, strings etc. More of this and an old "Guitarist" magazine style tutorial of a classic bassline would keep me interested. I'm going too see if I miss it, probably will after a while.

  5. Where I stay (Aberdeen area) it's weddings that are the earner and the thing to keep you busy. As the price of just about anything is inflated here (rent, eek!) bands can charge £1k-£2k and get it quite easily. Some charge even more. Reputation is the key. Still working on ours but have a few booked for the summer. Fingers crossed!

Same as mine! Aren't the necks exquisite? :) I've added the basslines spb-3 that's all, it really really is a cracking bass! The stock pups were great but the BL SPB-3 have enhanced an already cool instrument. I may change the bridge for an American deluxe at some point but that will be it.

It's the finish on the neck that I'm impressed with most. The stock pickups were good but I just like to have others to try out, the thumper is a powerful beast in comparison! My jazz has schaller tuners, gotoh 203 bridge, classic 60's pickups and a KiOgon solderless harness. It was in a sorry state when I got her but awesome now. It's a 2007 and while the neck is lovely, the finish on the body contours aren't as smooth as my precision. Quality has almost certainly improved massively in the last few years.

  7. Thanks gents, my only issue was with the scratchplate screw hole below the output jack, it was a bit slack and caused a bit of movement when I plugged in. Ye olde cocktail stick and glue did the job. Essential items in the tool bag. I shielded the cavity with aluminium foil tape while I was there too.

  8. I posted my joy yesterday :) it's a 2013 and in another league to the mid 90's one I had. Neck is unbelievably good.

  9. Bought myself a standard precision a couple of weeks ago but wasn't too keen on the weird greenish scratchplate. So I decided to change it out, and the pups, and add ashtrays :) I was worried they would get in the way but it was cool, didn't mind them at all at rehearsal yesterday. The scratchplate was from cwgp2010 on eBay and fit perfectly and the pickup is an ex wizard thumper, ashtrays genuine fender. Really happy, first time I'd played a p with a band in years, it was like meeting an old friend! They really do cut through the mix. Big smiles from the drummer. Finally finished my jazz too, she'll get her debut next week.

Never played a Lime and I hate any form/brand of relics but slightly off topic I would be interested to know what hardware, body's necks and pups they have. Anyway on topic I have seen some 90's early 2000 Mex Fenders up for like 700 quid and they sell surely a MIM of that age even in great condition is only worth about 300 tops? maybe they are being bought by people who dont know about all the different Fender variations and just they are getting a bargain Fender?

    What! :/

My early 90's p was junk! Buzzed like a peed off bee and the neck was as rough as me this morning after six pints of Stella! Maybe their "vintage" now, I keep forgetting how long ago it is, I still think 95 was 10 years ago sometimes :P my one died from being in a damp garage for too long, still have the body but the neck was wrecked.

  11. I have a 2012/2013 precision mim and it's a far better instrument than the early 90's one I had. The neck is fantastic, an utter joy to play. Not much to tell between it and my mates mia to be honest. Maybe we're getting to a point where a fender standard is a fender standard, origin being less of a guide on quality than in years gone by. Played my ibby sr600 tonight though, I forgot how good it is :P

  12. Yet another happy customer :) John gave great advice regarding my cavity space predicament and delivered a fantasticly made harness that even a simpleton like myself was able to fit in ten minutes. Jazz sounds as she should now, incredible service! Thanks again John :)
