What do you think if the behringer, is it any good? Was thinking of picking one up at the moment to see if I like it.

I've seen a few of these floating around and wondered how they compared to the BDDI, only trouble is they're more expensive than the BDDI

The VT is excellent, if you're looking a classic SVT sound, it's there in a box

2. You're better off getting something that'll do something close to this sound but more, what I've found is people get a B3K, love it for about 6 months and then eventually sell it on for something a bit more versatile. For a metal tone, I've always recommended these, it's got a much loved gate, which is good for metal

3. Jury's out on Reflektor for me, I absolutely loved The Suburbs, more then I thought I ever would.

I just think Reflektor is a bit boring and a definite step down from the past 3 albums but I can see how maybe they got bored of doing the indie with a mix of folk thing and wanted to go a bit more experimental

American Loopers 8ch click less programmable looper

TU3 > OC2 > Sputnik > Micro Synth > Duality > B7K > Tone Hammer

Nearly happy, I'd love a Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe and Subterranea/Frantabit

How much was the Sputnik after customs and postage?

Just get one. I was using it this weekend, after the TK-421 (Tom's Rat clone) and/or the Wren & Cuff TFR, and it sounds totally brutal but just sits so well with a band.
Especially effective against two noisy guitarists with JCM 800s! ;-)
I recently got a TFR as well, the Beta I find brilliant, I'd really have to try one before I think about it, no chance of that happening on this rock I live on! Plus I'd only really be using one part of the 66!

Thanks guys. £30/40 would work out at about 30% so that makes sense.

Chris, I know what youre saying man but Ive wanted one for so long now that I dont think the GAS will subside until ive tried one. What are you using now instead? I need a grindy preamp to replace my B3K so im really looking at either a Rusty Box or a VT Bass I think.
I know that feeling dude! I just love low end and thickness, to fill up the band, hence why I didn't like the Rusty Box but if you want a grindy preamp, this'll be your dream come true, it's grind for days. I'm actually using a SolidGold FX Beta for a bit of pre-distortion dirt, then into a Fuzzrocious Rat King for full blown!

I've actually heard every say that the Rusty Box is such a great replica of the TS50-B, that it works better just running it straight into your power amp!

7. Whenever I got mine I think I paid around £30/£40 in customs

Be certain you want one, they're a very specific sound and I found that it was a complete failure for my tone, if you want sharp, harsh and throaty, do it, also, maybe be prepared to have to change the EQ settings on your amp to match the pedal, I personally found it a complete pain.

Definitely this, I just could never get a very natural, organic sound out of the B3/7K. Maybe I just wasn't doing it right, though I tried probably every possible setting!...I did enjoy it for Takeshi Ueda moments, though none of my current bands have any particular need for those!
Doesn't seem to be their thing! I think the Empress Metal does a far better job of a compressed metaly bass tone which is far more organic if you're looking for it.

I thought the same about the B3K, and drew similarities between Darkglass fanatics and Apple fanboys worshipping their iPhones. The Vintage changed my opinion though. It sounds more, er, 'vintage'.
I love the idea of Darkglass releasing a phone "With the Era knob, you can go from Nokia 3310 to iPhone and everything in between in the twist of a knob!"

9. The VMT looks a great piece of kit but I don't know about Darkglass stuff, I know people who like it LOVE it, to my ears it just sounds so manufactured and fizzy. I know a guy who swears by Darkglass gear and I just can't get my head around the hype at all, but hey, that's just me!

Although, if I were to join some sort of hi-fi metal band, I'd probably get one to fit the sound, seems to me that's where a lot of their market is! Nolly lovers!

Here's a group for London promoters/venues on Facebook: https://www.facebook...187959254586136

This was the norm when I was gigging around London with other unknown originals bands. In fact we were lucky to get any money, most would pay £1 per head after the first 10 or 20 people came in to see you. But living in the outskirts and working in central London, I already had a travelcard so it was free to get around town, and there was usually a house amp or cab available. When there wasn't, I had a Promethean combo just about light enough to lug on the tube, as long as the head was removed and put in the bass bag. I didn't mind so much as I didn't know any different, and took the viewpoint that most of the gigs were like a free rehearsal.
I have one promoter in London I'll use until he stops promoting, Michael Patterson, he's from back here and lives in London, one of the nicest men I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and a truly fantastic promoter, although I'm not sure if he promotes full time, maybe just for bands that come from NI but if you can seek him out, he'll put you on and if you're a far way from home, offer you everything he can to make you comfortable. When our van got towed in London, he gathered up as much extra cash as he could from his friends and emptied his wallet for us because the fine had left us broke. Need more people like him!

11. We have a venue called Voodoo that doesn't ask you for room hire at all, it's simply £80 for a sound man and you can put on whatever want, provided that you make a poster, the room is yours for free, just have to call and ask for a spare date and if you want a weekend, make sure it's far in advance.

Whatever you make at the door, minus the £80 you owe the sound man (who's in house) and the amount you owe to the support acts is yours to keep!

Pound per head gigs are the norm for playing the "name" venues in Bristol. Usually midweek multi band bills of aspiring local bands tagged together into a facebook event. If all 5 acts bring a dozen people it can be a good night & the venue will shift some beer & the bands will get a quid for
each punter who has bought an advance ticket (from the bands, promoter gives 20-30 tickets to each band to sell or return) or walk INS on the night who mention your name at the door.
Promoter wants all unsold tickets returned or will charge bands per ticket for forgetting them!
So get advertising event & promote it & you might get some money to cover petrol but thats about it. You get to play at the "name" venue with stage, lights & big pa & maybe if you bring people & go down well you might get invited back on a better night or to support a touring act there?
We do them occasionally for exposure in amongst paying gigs on our own. Most young bands of nippers seem to use them as a free live rehearsal ime.
Cheers,
Norm

This is another thing that I just can't understand, these tickets things. It happened to me once in Belfast in my 5th gig ever in a venue called The Black Box (quite an arty venue) in quite a buzzing part Belfast.

Long story short, the promoter forgot the mention that the venue was over 18s and the bands were all about 17 including the punters, he made people pay for tickets that the bands held at a staggering £15 for 6 bands no-one had heard of. He caused a small riot in the venue which caused the gig to be cancelled half way through.

While I'm on the story of band promoters, let me share my story of the Belfast legend that is Chris Shaw. Chris Shaw (or Vito as he liked to be called) was a promoter in Belfast that ran from around 2010-2012, we played our first gig for him, actually went well except for him leaving shortly after arriving. Chris did some of the most amazingly stupid mistakes in terms of pay, he lived in Larne (about 15 miles out of Belfast via train) and continually told bands that he couldn't pay them because he had to pay for his train home and, now prepare to laugh, he refused to pay a set of bands because he had "internet fees" to pay and poster design to pay for (he made them in MS paint).

This, I'm afraid....

and this is why there is a persistant argument for not paying for silly money.
Don't want to derail the thread but if a constant stream of bands break this 'ethic'
then why will people change the habit. Don't be kidded that they are interested in bands
or what they play when they treat them like this.
It may not always be the promoters fault as such as the venue probably rents them the venue
so this is all part of how people get paid.

I sympathise with you getting ripped off, but you are perpetuating the state of affairs....as will
the next band and the next band.. bla bla.........

But...FF's 'lesson' is valid.... get it in writing and don't delete the audit trail...
I have lived and I have learned hence a quite nastily worded e-mail to the promoter in Sheffield. I always ask for money now and I keep the documents, it was a dumb mistake made by a very young band, we were only 6 months old when we did our first tour and we were still ironing out the creases.
