1. I've see Ipads in a few photos but not at gigs yet. In a situation where you might use a music stand, would you use an Iad (or similar)? Thoughts/ warnings/ recomendations?
2. What are you using them to do? Mics would normaly go XLR/XLR. Guitars would use jack / Jack or XLR./ XLR.
3. Well its on order. I don't know how long it will be until they ship. Knowing MY luck they don't actually have any.
4.
My S12T/V took a little longer than quoted, but not a whole lot
That is good news Gary if you recieved it recently. Things piled up Aug - Oct last year so maybe they recovered. How long ago did you recieve yours?
5. Be warned (and Alex hates me for saying this.) BF took a lot longer than the quoted delivery time last year. Be prepared to wait twice as long. If you are OK with that, fine. If he disagrees, make him agree to knock money off for over-runs. Iv'e actually only played 2 shows with my Super 212t since my new band is very "coffee shop". I haven't got to grips with it. I wish that I had started with a 112. Modern amps and speakers have come a lot further than you might think.
6. Not to hijack my own thread, but ...yeah. I can see that there is a cost issue involved in fitting an audio transformer as standard, but it would be cheaper than making a completely new circuit board. I also have a teensy concern about how well the circuit board stays in place inside the amp in a rock and roll world. but that's part of the investigation I suppose. ( just spent today drop-testing electronic equipment).
7. Since I can't find any evidence of anyone in the world doing It, I am tempted to fit one of these:- http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=153 Into my Littlemark800 tube - just to see what happens. The scientist in me wants to record the difference(?) for posterity. Does anyone have any suggestions for tests? - I don't mean take it to a gig. I mean something more measurable.
8. No. That's the distributor. They were able to give me 2 names. One in Leeds and on in South London (I Live in Hertfordshire.) I'm looking for one in/ nr Hertfordshire.
9. Does anyone know who the Markbass UK service centres are? Apparently things got a weird after the UK distributor changed.
10. I didn't realise that Markbass made a 2X12. That would solve everything, and I quite like the colour.
11. Funk, soul, latin, but never rock. Recomendations?
12.
The argument over 10s & 15s is a bit like arguing over whether beef comes from a cow.
Are you typing for practise of making a point here? Is it that 10" is obviously better, or that there obviously is NO difference? There is so much debate, Its difficult to know which side of the polarised debate you are on!
Driver diameter and tone/frequency response are not in any way related
You might possibly want to check out the Eminence web site.
The reason they don't is that the vast majority of players would not be willing to pay the added cost
Not until they can make one that lights up, anyway.
13.
but bass is a comparatively narrow set of frequencies
Fundamentals yes. But I firmly believe that my bass does business above (say) 1KHz.
If the tens and fifteens used were optimized for highs versus lows this would be true. But they aren't. There's precious little difference in the response of electric bass tens through fifteens, and for that reason precious little benefit to mixing them, if any.
So ....the argument between 10" and 15" is noncence? Alternatively; What if speaker cabinet manufacturers decided to take advantage of the natual characteristics of driver size?
14. I'm (still) close to going shopping for a new amp. At the moment I'm still surfing. I was worried about whether to go for all 12" or all 10" or mix 10" and 15". Before I even get to brands I've noticed that none of the cabs seam to use crossover networks. Surely you would want to use the 10" for Highs only and 15" for lows only Otherwise it would sound bad or be inefficient.
15.
It bugs me to say it but the days of home building to save money are gone except for building high end speaker cabs. If you are home building for fun then go for it, of course.
+1 You have to remember what your core activity is. If its playing bass, do that. If its running a PA system, do that. If electronics is your thing, do that. If you are a bass player who needs a 100W per Chan PA, get a mixer amp, and plug 2 speakers into it. Anything else is distracting you. I speak as someone with 30 years of playing and building his own sh*t with an unused 1.5 K PA in the garage. Why unused? Because I dont spend enough time playing. When I HAVE used it it I get anoyed because I need to move it and set it up myself! I just threw out 2 old Mosfet amps because I realised thar they wouldn't be reliable. Go practice scales instead.
16. Thanks for the replies. Not disagreeing with any of them. Words I forgot to use in my OP:- 5 string Reggae, soul, RNB. Never rock. Personal philosiphies I forgot to mention:- Rehersals are not tone checks. Cab arrangement in rehersals is irrelavant - actually I'll use whaever is there. Oddly enough I'm still me. My stage rig is only a monitor. I already own a 2K PA rig. With simplicity and reduced feedback in mind, I prefer to D.I. than mic the cab. At a lot of gig with a single 15" my knees have the best sound in the house while my head gets nothing. I have been tempted to use a monitor on top of the amp. Aught to be a sticky - If somone could write the science. keep it coming.
17. I've owned my 1986 Peavy TNT130 since new. It has a 15inch speaker. A lot of people have liked it. However I'm considering replacing it with a seperate amp and speakers rig. What do you think about using a single 15inch cab and a 2 X10inch cab?
18. There is an intention by the UK government to make sound limiters a legal requirement in licensed music venues. If you don't want that to happen sign here. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/NoNoiseControl/ You only have until the 23 of Jan. (Bump this until then guys)

It sounds like he USED to be an IT professional, and is now failing as an ebay shop too, because he's stuck with that bass!
20. I just got a reply from the MU "Hi Dave One of the benefits of membership is free instrument insurance for instruments up to the value of £2,000. The instruments have to be registered with our insurance brokers once you are a member. The PLI is automatic once you are a paid up member." If you earned less than £12000 last year the cost is £144
21. We all play along to tracks. Some times its to copy, and other times its to see what we can come up with. Right now I'm listening to some funk soul tunes. The chords are often buried in the layers, and the bass changes and improvises. I'd like to figure out the bass player's angle. What do you do? figure out the chords? jam a bit until you get something (not a fan personally. It'll just sound like me and I won't learn anything.)? Learn it exactly? What its your approach?
22. Yes I'm old enough to remember them being out as singles. It doesn't realy help. Those have different bass styles. Even Japan which had the same tone, was a different style.
23. By "Nu-Romantic" I mean the Duran's "Rio" and Roxy's "Same old scene". Now I know that John Taylor was into Bernard Edwards but Its not the same. Duran are supposed to have been into Punk, electronica, and Roxymusic, but Neil Spenner's line on "Same old Scene" was recorded at about the same time. So who were they listening to before that?
