So what's inside these TKS cabs? Does anyone have any pictures of the interiors?
    [/quote]

So I don't have any pictures from inside, but before we mounted the front grill I took a picture if my new W2126.

After having used them for band practise for a while now I can safely say that they don't disappoint. A clarity of sound which is impressive, whilst delivering nice bass. I play a fairly clean sound with emphasised mids. It is great for this speaker. Today I had both the guitarist and the drummer compliment the sound when using my Ibanez RB960.

  2. I think I picked up something somewhat unusual, as in "I haven't seen many of these around".

An Ibanez Axstar AX50, in decent shape. It needs some TLC and replacing the 1/4 jack etc. But it feels like it will play and be as nice as any Ibanez I have owned. :)

  3. I think you got a dud pack DanEly.

I have five basses with EB Cobalt strings and I absolutely love them. They have slightly less zing than stainless have (according to my friends) but they fade slower. They are somewhat higher tension than other strings I have tried (Rotosound Nickel, a little; Maruszczyk nickel, more), which I like. One of the packs 50-105 felt like it wasn't quite clean from the manufacturing process, somewhat oily. But otherwise I didn't have any problems with the others. I only use 45-105 now.

  4. What most people say who have tried them is that you really need to hear them rather than reading specs. And I agree. I want to put a Prodigy & a Strategy next to my Carbine M6 and try them out. I have tried the pre-release version of the Strategy, but since then I have changed preamp pedal (Darkglass B7L), bass (Ibanez RB850/960) and speakers (TKS W2126). So I want to try with what I have now, I am sure it will be lovely.

  5. I don't think anyone who have tried these cabs would call them clones. No more than any 112 being a clone of another. Also, there really is no "budget", as in cheap and low quality, in the TKS cabs. The price is reasonable or even low for a world class cab though.

Which is why I have one cab and two more on order. :)

So does anyone know if there is a fretless 5 string in the series, apart from those ones with a single pickup and whatever that large panel above it is.

Here is à fretless with fret markings.

  7. Dedicated rehearsal space. One non-profit organisation that we all participate in rents the space from the council. Five rooms, about 25-30 sqm. (300 square foot) for three bands (two sets of drums), or slightly smaller for two bands. And a kitchen. Vocal PA installed and owned by the org. Five such rehearsal rooms, 12 bands. Alarmed and key access to all band members. Cheap, £40/band member /month. It's great.

  8. Mesa Carbine M6, for that monster throaty sound. Responsive and just rock'n'roll.

I play it with a TKS 212 and a Promethean 410, but that is getting replaced by 2x TKS 2126s in the next coupe of weeks. The TKS speakers are some of the lightest and effective speakers I have heard. And I am getting them custom finished as well. :)

Always been a huge fan of those old Ibanez Musicians (from the time Adam Clayton and Sting used them) so recently got one of these... Around here in Belgium you can get these for around 300-400 euros (got mine for 300 ) and they just blow me away..
Believe me or not but I used to have an expensive Alembic Mark King and this cheap Ibanez reminds me of it everytime I pick it up...
A wide range of sounds and the neck is a joy to play... it's one of the best basses I've ever had.

Nice! Now, how do I get hold of one of them from Belgium? What sites do I look at?

The SR305 has been replaced by an RB760, oh and the Teisco snuck in there too. But otherwise it is an happy Ibanez family.

  11. I just did my first band practice after the summer break, hardrock/metal, with my new Darkglass B7K, into a Mesa M6. Bass is an -84 Ibanez RB850 playing on the bridge pickup. Mid boosts all round. The drummer literally jumped up after the first song and shouted "It sounds so damn good!"

I know my sound isn't for everyone. But I am pretty damn satisfied. :)

  12. The B7K works out really well for me. It is always on with just a touch of dist going for those fat mid tones with enough oomph in the low end if I want it. But to get through the base drum and the guitar/keyboard the mids is where it is, for me. Scooped it certainly isn't if you don't want it and personally I really like the voice.

    Thanks for the kind comments.
I did harrass every Roadstar owner on basschat to sell me there Roadstar at one point, that must have been quite annoying, so apologies all.

They are mine, mine, MINE. You can't have em! ;)

  14. Cool, I have a black one a few years older. Just fixed up the tone pot on it and practiced with it today. That bass rocks!

  15. Can't have too many Roadstars I don't think. Got any picture of that one?

Sorry to hijack your thread, I haven't really played any Yamahas, but they seem to make good stuff according to what everyone says.
