You certainly don't see many of them around :)
Thanks!

And yes, they are quite rare. I bought it, sight unseen/unheard, just because I was awestruck by the pictures. I couldn't be happier with it. As far as I'm concerned, it's the ultimate 6-string.

  2.
I do post on PT from time to time sir (I've somehow ended up in Mike's band and Morgan's band too)

Also Mr Stockholm, when the credit crunch bites harder I'll sling you a PM!

It's tricky at the moment because 2 weeks after I got the Thumb I picked up my bargain basement Streamer Stage II. They both have such different tones and I'm really struggling to choose a main bass right now.

The SSII really cuts through everything and has really sparkly high mids, but the Thumb just growls so much. Difficult.
Thanks, mate!

I know what you mean about the Stage II and the Thumb. The Stage II has this unique tone that I only can describe as "crunchy", P-nut from 311 is a good example. Like all Wicks, it slices the mix like a hot knife through butter, but with a unique tone. It's got a nasal quality, but in a good way!

Regarding the Thumb, it has a more agressive, growly thing going on, especially the regular 5-string with single coils (although stacked). I find that the Bart soapbars keep this characteristic intact, but adds a lot more booty to it. I actually borrowed the NT 6 I mentioned in the previous post, and used in in a classic rock cover band. Everyone was, like, "WTF, you can't use that". When I soloed the neck pickup, and started hammering with my fingers/the pick, they all shut up. :)

That sound was the best sound I ever played with, and I've been looking for a 5-string like that ever since!

  3. Ok, so here are some clips, recorded AT VERY LOW VOLUME through the internal mic on my laptop. The best I could do ATM.

BTW, I can't slap for the life of me, it's just to demonstrate how it sounds. The first three are fingering clips, I just doodle around. The slap clips are a little more consistent.

Amp and bass EQs flat, new Ernie Ball bass Slinkies, nickel.

    Thanks!

Apart from being an amazing instrument in itself, it also has great sentimental value to me.

  5.
I'm still watching though :)

Seriously bad timing for me though as I have just committed to buying another bass otherwise I would have taken this just for the hell of it (at that price it is silly money). I still have a SSII and I'd not sell it for a penny under £1200! There may well have been a couple of SC/REVERB basses sold at a cut-price but this is still a cracking price.
You have too many Warwicks anyway, mate!

(Cheers from Samuel, formerly The Swedish Owl @ warwick forum)

  6.
That looks really nice! Congratulations! It would be great if you could post some sound clips at some point :)
I'll try, but I don't really have any equipment to do so with...when I start my music school in late August, I'll try to get something.

BTW, I've had the bass for three years, but I'm new here at BassChat, so, yeah...

  7. Hey Simon, not that it'll ever happen, but I want dibs on that Thumb! (I'm Samuel from the Warwick forum BTW)...

I tried a Thumb 6 with Bartolini soapbars a while ago, and it was probably the best bass I've ever tried. Since then, I've been looking for a Thumb NT 5 with Bartolini soapbars. Had I known this existed, it would've already been mine...

    :)

  8.
very nice bass. i wish my car wasn't in the garage getting repaired cos otherwise ide buy it. Does Dirk Lance (ex incubus) use he 5 string version of this??
He sure does!

  9.
Just to quickly point out that it has the brass Just A Nut I and the Jim Dunlop recessed straplocks. Don't mean to be pedantic, it is just some people like myself look out for Warwicks made with these specs. Looks lovely though! :)
Yep, and don't forget the wenge neck, either

  10.
Warwick were 'inspired' by Spector. The orginal basses of course being designed by furniture designer Ned Steinberger who shared woodworking space with at co-operative with Stuart Spector, hence the NS prefix.

They are very different basses to Warwicks, both are lovely.
Yep, that is true.

On early Warwick Streamers (with the NS shape, mid 80's) it actually says something like "licensed by Stuart Spector/Ned Steinberger". So I guess at one point, Warwick DID pay to use the NS shape.

Oh, and BTW, what preamp is in this NS4? Boost only or boost/cut?
