1. Hey all,

Does anyone know what a 'Rockwood' bass by Hohner might be like build, sound etc?

Theres a guy selling one cheaply but I cant say I have heard of one before. It looks like a precision. Advertised as an 1980's bass.

Anyway - just asking as I am a little tempted and could use any info to help me make a decision on buying it or not.

Thanks for any input.

Edd

2. Hey all,

Does anyone have a decent fretboard diagram with all the notes marked on it they could post on this thread (4 string) - or link to it?

I need to print one out here at work and I cannot find anything of much use online... maybe I am just crap at searching.

I need to learn my fretboard (I keep putting it off) and figured a nice sized printout on my little 'wall' on my desk would mean I could glance at it every now and then, between working of course.

Any help apreciated!

Thanks

Edd

3. Hey all - happy new years by the way!

Just a quick question.

I am thinking about getting a 'Stompbox'

Wiki stompbox

Dalmedo Stompbox

Has anyone used one? and if so am I right in thinking I can just put this into my aux in on the rear of my Genz Benz Shuttle 3 or do I need stright instrument in?

Anyway thats it :)

Thanks all!

Edd

4. I agree with fretlessguy - I have the shuttle 3-10 (same shuttle 3.0 head but with the 10" cab)
Its plenty on loud its own (and under 20lb and small!) but I added a 15" hartke cab because I could hehe.

Would be perfect - Bassdirect do them delivered for £560 ish (I paid around that)

They arent cheap - but the sound good and the convenience of the weight and size tops most stuff out there.

Its got my vote!

5. In:
Guitars-

Tanglewood TW55 A/BassB acoustic bass
Ibanez BTB 07Ltd 4 stringer
OLP MM3? (2?) i have no idea and its bagged up right now.. 5 string bass
Epiphone Custom Shop Thunderbird in gloss black.

Effects-

Ashdown Dual Band Compression pedal.
Ashdown Jo Lomenzo (sp?) Hyperdrive pedal.
Zoom B2.1U pedal.

Amps/cabs-

Ashdown Perfect Ten combo (soon for sale)
Genz Benz Shuttle 3-10T head and cab
Hartke 115XL 15" cab

a plethora of cables/stands/gig bags/plectrums/books/drop D tuner/strap locks etc

out:
nowt!

I only started playing earlier this year :)

I just read my own list and I scared myself.

6. I bought the shuttle 3-10t combo from BassDirect and purchased a hartke 15" cab from Lemmywinks (off the for sale section)
Put them together and the 10 and 15 work really well together - granted I have half the power of GB6 but I dont gig so no problems there!

I cant wait to try them in anger - just waiting for my mate to get us a free night in his dads studio :)

The head weighs nowt - I thought they has sent me an empty box when the delivery guy turned up (and that was with the cab lol)

7.
Alun's Christmas tunes for solo bass would be apposite for the next few weeks
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=340540
Already bought it :)

I wanted to avoid the christmas stuff if possible tho.

I am not sure people understand quite what I am after though. I want a piece of music like a Wooten track (just for bass) but easier lol

Does that make sense?

8. Hey all,

As the title suggests can anyone recommend any bass music that would sound good on an amped acoustic bass? something that can be played solo with no other instruments and isnt to hard (i am still a newbie)

Theres a local acoustic night and I fancied trying to play something but really dont know what.

Any suggestions/links to tabs etc highly apreciated!! :)

Thanks all.

Edd

9. I guess I am lucky in that I dont yet have a 'sound' as I have only been playing since earlier this year.

I suppose this rig will make me find it - at least I hope so - the Ashdown, although technically ok, seemed fairly lifeless.

Here's hoping this amp will sound as sweet as it looks!

10. Well, I finally took the plunge and bought myself a head/cab and thought I would post on here my initial impressions.

These are very initial as I have yet to plug it in - it arrived here at my work a few hours ago and I have spent all this time *ahem* working.

Its a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 with a 10" cab (its technically the Shuttle 3-10t combo)

The head is nice and shiny and seems pretty well built if somewhat light (2.75lb's) and pumps out 175watt @ 8ohms and 300watt @ 4ohms.

Its attached to the cab via a slide in holder attached to the top of the cab that also acts as the carry handle. The head is held im place by 2 knurled thumbscrews, one either side. It comes out easily and the slide/holder seems very sturdy.

The cab itself I believe is made of magic and possibly fairy dust. Its a 10" Eminence driver made from Moly..HOWEVERITSSPELT..inium magnet thingies. Anyway I am sure its some sort of voodoo because this thing is light. Not just light"ish" but really really light. The whole cab with head attached is less that 21lbs.

I can hold the whole thing in one hand at arms length comfortably.

Theres a handy sping loaded 2 footed stand built into the base of the cab so you can tilt it up if needed to better monitor yourself. Its rear ported with a little compression tweeter built in.

All in it looks the business if not somewhat tiny. I mean its smaller and WAY lighter than my Ashdown Perfect 10 practice amp.

As I say - it must be magic.

I will update after I get it home tonight and let you know what I think of the sound.

Cant wait !! (Thanks to BassDirect for selling me it - Marks a good guy)

Cheers

11. I tend not to buy music - I have a Microsoft Zune (like an ipod) and I pay monthly to dl anything I want from the marketplace they have. (Its pretty well stocked with new and old stuff)

So, I just dl'd (last week):

everything by '...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead'
a couple of 'At The Drive In' albums
some 'Remy Zero'
some 'Shins'
all of the albums by 'The Stills'
a 'Pendulum' album
the new 'Oasis' album
some 'Hot Hot Heat'
a bit of 'Shiny Toy Guns'
the new 'Snow Patrol' album

and lots lots more lol...... Jack's Mannequin, Glasvegas, Of Montreal, I'm From Barcelona, Tunng, Efterklang, The New Pornographers, Devics,

I really need to spend some time not listening to new music

12. Im still pretty new to bass guitar so to make me practice I have given myself the challenge of learning one song per day. I have gone through my music collection and then visited Ultimate Guitar Tabs (dot com) and got the tabs I need. I havent gone for all the same stuff, for instance I learned 'Tarantula' by Pendulum at the weekend and learned 'Teddy Picker' by Arctic Monkeys tonight. I have to be able to play it wihtout the tab by the end of the night.

Its a good way to challenge yourself and keep practicing. Maybe that will help you.

13. IF you can hold it till the 21st (its my pay day) I will take it off you.....................

Alternatively I have an Ashdown Jo Lomenzo (?) Hyperdrive pedal (doesnt have a psu) that we could do a straight swap for or a little cash on top if need be - it has had excellent reviews but I need to reduce how much stuff I take to practices.

Its never been gigged and only used in my spare room. VGC

14.
I work in Bargain Booze, and ive managed to talk to three people about my bass gear so far. i should well work in a bass shop!

Seriously though, Basschat should open a bass shop. One in manchester and one in london. We'd own the world.
Nah, Blackpool not Manchester :)

15. Hi all,

I am still very new to bass but a few friends and I have decided to start a Kings of Leon cover band for shits and giggles.

I am not that good yet - I can play enough to get by and I am learning fast even if I say so myself.

I presently have 4 bass's. An Epiphone Thunderbird (which I know people hate but I love it), an Ibanez BTB07Ltd, a 5 string OLPmm3(?) and a Tanglewood TW55 acoustic bass.

These are presenlty played through an Ashdown Perfect 10 combo with and without pedals (ashdown envelope and distortion)

Now my question :)

I fancy getting something I can practice on AND I can gig with (not that I am gigging yet but lugging the perfect 10 about is a pain when I go to my mates studio or house)

The Ashdown is ok but it sounds er dull? I dont know if thats what I mean, maybe it just sounds a bit lifeless to me. Also the single handle design leaves a lot to be desired when moving it from place to place.
I was looking at maybe a small Markbass combo or a Genz Benz to replace it - leaving me the option to add a cab to either if I get to the point of gigging.
Bass Day next sunday has Bassdirect there and I was hoping to have a little listen to both and maybe buying one or the other.(if you cant afford it.... finance it! - guess the film anyone?)

My question is would one of these do the job and if not any other makes? needs to be portable, gigable, expandable and able to play quietly for practicing.

Any help apreciated.

16. I just bought a shiny black gloss Epiphone Thunderbird from Peter.

Nice easy transaction, he even met me halfway. The bass was mint just as he described. Nice bloke :) (now he needs to sell me a really cheap combo and I will be happy lol)

I did get stopped by the police on the train station platform as they were looking for a 'man carrying a guitar' ...................... but I dont think I can blame Peter for that hehehe

Top bloke!

17. Hey all,

Sorry to bother you (but thanks for reading this)

I have been playing bass now for about 6 months and have been playing exclusively with finger rather than picks.
Problem is I have hit a barrier with finger speed when plucking. I now have moved on to using a pick for songs I find too fast for me.

I can use 1 finger (and pretty quick with it I am) but when I move to use 2 I find that I mis-time with the second finger OR I do a 1 beat with my first finger and then 2 beats with the next then back to the first (if that makes sense) and yet I am still not consistent nor as fast as with my single finger. Theoretically I SHOULD be twice as fast.....

So, basically is there a technique for training your fingers to work at speed and in rhythm or do I just practice, practice, practice?

Any help apreciated.

:)

Thanks,

Edd

18. Hi folks,

I was out looking for something a little nicer than my Ibanez BTB07Ltd (weird painted BTB200), possibly a 5 string.

Anyway the local shop had a jap Fender J (which although very very nice, I just dont get on with the size/shape combo)
and a 4 string Indie 'Riki' which I think by the name you can tell the shape/style of lol

Indie themselves dont show it on the website due to 'copyright' issues *cough*

Has anyone any opinions on them?

I played it in store for about an hour and was impressed with the sounds it could make and the action (which was low) and it also felt nice to hold.

The shop will do it for me @£279 with a trade in of an old bog standard 6 string guitar (not bass) that I dont ever use and cannot play so no loss to me.

I have attached a pic - any comments welcome.

Cheers

Edd
