1.
Great stuff. The other tune that gets me with its level of complexity is this one, such a lot to cram into a song under 2 minutes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE2Vdcv9Q_o
Wow that was great. I usually avoid the Lennon solo stuff but this was interesting. A little Zappa.
 2.
Oh come on now, everyone has a favourite Beatles tune! Even my dad does, he claims to hate them.
Hmmmm....Eleanor Rigby, A day in the life, drive my car, lady madonna, there are lots of great tunes!
 3.
Give it a rest now. 21 posts in and you're in at the deep end, post something constructive. Do you have a favourite Beatles tune maybe? Here's another belter
I actually don't like the Beatles that much but boy are they good and influential.
 4.
No, absolutely not, but making assumptions without foundation most definitely is.
I just asked a question that you haven't been able to answer in more than six posts.
 5.
Bach has been the most influential musician of the last 400 years. Yet, you may not "like" his music. That doesn't mean he is overrated and thinking so is just ignorance and saying so is just posturing. Are we done now?
Exactly my point.
 6.
I'll refer you to my previous reply about making ridicluous posts while not having been here long enough to make a worthwhile point.
To claim that my opinion is not valid because I'm new is frankly quite stupid.
 7.
It has become almost impossible to say you don't like The Beatles---people throw proper hairy canary hissy fits if you do (just read the last few pages).I think its because lots of Beatles fans are unable to appreciate that it is entirely possible to accept how influential and important the Beatles were whilst not actually enjoying their artistic output. I like The Beatles (although they do have quite a few turds hidden amongst the gems) but just because something is important and influential doesn't mean you have to actually like it.
That's precisely not the case. Anyone may like whatever they like but you don't just walk in saying the Beatles are rotten tomatoes just because YOU don't like them. The facts point to another reality namely that they were better than you may think.
 8.
Speaking of "judging", I'm judging from your replies to all of the posts on this page alone, that your replies are there just to wind others up "pal" ............ and rack up your post count. Naturally like everyone else on this forum I buy CDs or other media just to look at the pretty pictures on the cover.
You still fail to answer a simple question. I guess you're still in your teens so Ill drop it this time.
 9.
Since you've hardly been on this forum long enough to take a dump I would suggest in future you read a whole thread before making ridiculous posts like that; I've already said twice - at least - in this thread that I own several Beatles recordings across two formats. AFAIC they're just another set of recordings that have ended up in a corner of a shelf of stuff I barely listen to.
I didn't ask if you had any Beatles albums. I asked if you had LISTENED to them. Not judged, just listened. No need to be violent just because I don't share your opinion.
 10.
That phrase in itself is meaningless & whether it's Dylan or Dylan Thomas a phrase that's thrown around far too much in these vacuous days of non-inspirartion - such "influences" should be left up to the musician in person to admit to - and not have it anointed onto him by an obsessed fan. Noel gallagher excepted, because he admitted it, but there again, he nicked riffs off Marc Bolan & Mott too, it's no big thing. It's a safe bet that most of those involved in yesterday's fiasco would have agreed to be "influenced" by Beatles just to get the publicity.
Have you listened to the Beatles at all or are you just being silly?
 11.
I have said it before & will say it again. I've tried several times over the years to 'Get' the Beatles but failed every time. I just don't like their music & I don't think I ever will. They were a big band that probably have influenced loads of stuff that I am unaware of, but lets face it as someone stated before, you can never understand the change they brought about unless you remember a world without them, but lets face it in 15-20 years time no one will be alive who can so they will fall back to memory I suppose. It is also worth noting that one of the main reasons why I don't like the Beatles is that fervent almost religious fan base they have. This thread has just re-enforced my opinion of that.....a little bit spooky to be honest. If you love the Beatles & have fun listening to their music that's great, but don't act so offended if other people do not agree. Music is something we all have a passion for but the world would be crap if we all loved the same thing. Chill out guys
You shouldn't base your musical taste on a bands fan base. You've got it wrong from the beginning there pal.
 12.
Pick any artist, from any genre -- art, music literature, film -- anyone -- and one can argue that they're over-rated. It's meaningless. In the meantime, over 30 years after their demise, the Beatles continue to influence songwriters and musicians, their music is studied and played by musicians from all walks of life and their music continues to be sell in the millions. What else do you want?
They want to like them but can't. It's easier to state there's something wrong with the world than yourself.
 13.
Jimmy Haslip and a lot of other players who unquestionably have fantastic ability seem to fall into this kind of smooth jazz / fusion muzak by default . It's a bit of a shame , because I'm sure Jimmy Haslip and many others players in this genre would be great playing in some more unfamiliar situations and different genres of music , and I bet they would enjoy it, too . I know Jimmy has played with some mainstream pop artists in the past , and I would like to hear him in that kind of a situation again . John Patitucci is another prime example . His solo albums for the most part leave me cold ( more than half an hour of one would probably leave me comatose , to be honest ) and for all their technical brilliance he doesn't play anything on any of them that is as effective as his bassline on Walk The Dinosaur by Was Not Was or his tasteful accompaniment on Everything But The Girl's Language Of Life album .
I can totally get why they play fusion. Much popular music is extremely boring for a bass player with chops. Everyone likes a challenge and fusion gets it for you plus that it can be damn cool when it's well done. The problem with Haslip is not about chops. It's all about lacking taste and I wouldn't generalize that fact being true for the whole genre. It isn't. I could find faults in every style of music but in the end it's all about taste.
 14. As said before: Haslip destroys an otherwise amazing album. Just imagine that one with Jimmy Johnsson.
 15.
I think a lot of posters are saying that they don't like the Beatles so they can't have been all that.
Haha, spot on mate. They sound like my pupils when we don't sing hip songs at school.
