  1. I agree totally.
Recently had a holiday at Potters in Norfolk where they pride themselves on having one of the best theatre groups in the country.
All the musicians were session guys, reading what was in front of them and doing their own thing. Although there wasn't a bum note played, there was no 'togetherness' of the band, almost like they had never played together before or knew the songs.
The most obvious was an Abba tribute they had slapped together which was dire. Yes, they played the right notes in the right places, but there was just no feel to the songs. As mentioned above, was almost like someone had programmed the notes into a computer.

  2. I currently have an old aligator 410, which I think may be a guitar cab, and a behringer 15" combo.
I'm looking for some good low end grunt, which the behringer isn't bad at, and the aligator is starting to struggle with after 20 years.

Only doing pub gigs / occasional wedding gigs at the moment so doesn't need to be massive.
    Using a 250w head.

    Any recommendations? 2x12? 4x10?

Don't care if it's something that has been pre-abused, as long as it's reliable and has some grunt to it!

I did a temporary job on mine five years ago by using insulating tape round the shaft. Worked fine, must get round to fitting correct size ones someday.

All it needs really. The nut should hold it tight, and once the string is tensioned it's not going to move in the hole.
I can make you some steel/ali bushes if you're really worried

  4. Not a fan of flash based freebie sites, but visually it looks good
run it through browsershots.org and you'll get an idea of how it displays in other browsers.
Also, run a validation check on the site too http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ which will give an idea of any glaring mistakes.
Personally i'd add a footer with contact details on it, and maybe make the text a bit smaller and nicer.

  5. Why have all the venues dried up over the past few years?
We used to have some cracking places that were always packed out.
The only thing I can suggest is arranging your own gigs. Find a function room with a bar to hire, promote it yourself and sell the tickets.

  6. if your bass gets wet or even slightly damn from moisture in the air then leave it out of it's case at home for a few days to dry properly.
I made the mistake of just wiping down and putting it in the case only to find 2 weeks later when i got it out, rusty screws on the bridge

  7. I have nothing against making a few quid along the way, but this is more of setting up something where bands can do their thing, and the punters can have a night of entertainment.
Used to be a couple of places that done it and they were always rammed, but obviously as both have been flattened for housing developments there was more money in the land than there was at the bar

And maybe change the look of the place (on minor stuff) to suit the bands playing. Having a few different sets of pictures/posters to put up that actually make sense for the type of band on would add to the atmosphere a bit.

Good idea. At the moment its a virtually disused function room (magnolia walls and flourescent light fittings!)
with a bar, but removable stuff is a plan!

Cool, not far from me then, give us a shout if you go ahead with it :)

You'll know exactly where it is........ The Foremans.
Still need to sort out the logistics but reckon it could work.
