  1. I get your points about the genny being chucked on the truck with a jump lead connecting it to the chassis as an earth, but it will be done properly if it could be someone gets fried!
You've given me some ideas of who to speak to now, know some decent sparkies and auto electricians so will fire some questions at them, original question was just to see if anyone had done it in the past with success :-)

  2. There must be a 'safeish' way of doing it, as it's been done by plenty in the past.
The other thing i was thinking of was a sinewave inverter, but not sure what size it would need to be to run 3 amps and a PA, and whether there would still be the same earthing issues.
Liking the iPod idea although don't quite think it would cut it!

  3. Noted, Thanks Dad!

I think we'll get one rehearsal in beforehand which i'll probably record, so will at least have some sort of idea what the pair of musicians are going to throw at this welder !

  4. I've asked her to send across some youtube links of versions of songs she wants to do.
So far Summertime and Fever I'll be able to nail ok, and guess listening to them will give me some sort of 'feel' for it.

Liking the keep it simple idea :D

  5. Hi guys,

After a bit of advice (song examples etc) on 'loosely' learning jazz......... bit vague I know, but read on and you'll get what I mean!

Every year, my local has a charity gig and gets 6 or so bands to play. Generally all we get is your bog standard covers bands, which gets a bit tedious when most of the set lists are the same!
One of my wife's friends wants to do something this year, she's quite an accomplished Jazz singer but because of babies / kids hasn't done anything for a couple of years.
She's got a keyboard player who is apparently sh*t hot, but needs a bassist.

Guess who's been roped in to the role........!

As my background is mainly rock / punk, how do I get my head round some 'acceptable' jazz playing?!

She has said she will keep it simple by doing Ella Fitzgerald - summertime, and Fever (whoever did that one!) sort of stuff, which I think I can blag ok after listening on youtube, but is there any other advice, tips, songs you'd recommend to listen to?

My view of jazz currently is something like:

  6. i'm doing a website for my local sports club, and done a bit of googling to find info on it, and come across their licence on the council website. They have a band there couple of times a month, and on the licence it states a 60dbA limit on any 'functions'. i think i have done farts louder than that

  7. Went pretty well, even if I didn't play at it!
The guys got a local bassist in to dep for me while I was at the mother in laws 70th.
Went along for the last half hour and 2 of the last 6 songs I don't think he actually played one note the same as the rest of the band! He blagged it well though, turned down on the ones he wasn't sure of and just done his own thing!
Punch up and a broken window in the door at the end apparently B)

  8. Need to upgrade my rig as the cab is getting a bit old and tired, and the amp isn't the best (although it has never let me down). Currently have an old Torque 200 amp head, and an aligator 410 cab which has had the speakers changed at some point. Been having a few 'farty' noises occasionally coming from the rig lately so think its time to change......
Sod all free cash, but have plenty of reward points at andertons ( http://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-amplifiers/cid557/guitar-amplifiers.asp#1372449475304page-1) and credit rating is ok atm!

Basic 5 piece rock band, pubs / clubs, nothing big really.
What do I need for some nice low end bowel movement inducing grunt?

  9. If you're sure its the amp and not the bass (lead, socket, battery if active) then open up the amp and look for anything loose. Its probably virtually chuck away if there is anything unobvious wrong with it.
Obviously unplug it etc etc before you start
