I haven't gigged since I was 18 and sold my bass to fund a trip abroad (foolishly thinking I would by another on my return). I got back into playing bass again a few years ago after a 36 year break, but haven't gigged since. I jam with a guitarist friend and we did try to set up a band, but got through drummers too quickly to make a go of it. I blame the guitarist.

Ashbury as opposed to Ashbory have just brought out a bass ukulele for £199. It's a bit different from all the others in that it has metal strings. Available from Hobgoblin Music. Afraid I don't know anymore about it. However, I do have an Ashbury soprano ukulele and the build quality and tone are excellent so I don't think quality will be an issue.

I watched a thing on Coast last night about this sort of paint job. It makes it harder for a U boat captain to aim his torpedoes, apparently.

I don't inderstand why it is described as a precision bass when everything about it except the headstock logo says jazz bass to me.

Looks like someone has got it confused with the bog brush.
Or the bog -
I have a modern player jazz and can't fault it. It is nearly two years old now and no problems so far.

Is it the angle that photo 3 was taken, or does it have an offset waist like a Jazz . I like the look apart from the colour.

Don't you just love it when sellers post pictures of a valve amp switched on with no speaker cab in sight? That really sets the mind at ease!

Oh, shouldn't you do that? Good job I've only ever used combos. -
I thought my skull was the only one that shape.

Have you seen their other item, am expired tax disc for £695.
If that's a collectors item, what about my one that arrived on 2 October complete with a letter saying I didn't have to display it after 30 September. That must be worth thousands.
I am open to trades

Is that an additional strap button off centre on the back?

Are there no single bass men out there? GAS free in their unibass world.....
[/quote]
Just the one Modern Player Jazz for me. It's not because I am GAS free, more cash free and space free.
Having said that, a Precision would probably do it for me. -
It looks like it didn't survive the 50s to me.

I think you made the right choice. Looks really nice in the photo.

Can't believe this. I have just seen it and thought " I will have to get along to the une of Feathers this month". Then I looked at the FB page.
There are some right miserable gits out there. If they are like that, what are they doing living next door to a pub? -
Make sure you try out a modern player. They are remarkable for the money and more versatile than the others.

Another real advert
I want to start a quo tribute band. Looking to start out playing pubs and then mabye touring in the future. I`m 16,age range 14-19.
Whilst I admire his thinking, he may have a slight problem getting into the pub to play the gig.
False beard anyone?

When I was 17 I was auditioned ( failed) by a pub band which was actually named after the Local where they did most of their gigs.
I would have been the oldest member by 2 years.
That was in 1975 and they were all better musicians then than I am now. -

My first bass was a Hofner 500/3, which was ok but I preferred the Welson Violin Bass I replaced it with. The Violin bass was much nicer looking than a 500/1 complete with f holes a very nice smokey sunburst and two mini humbuckers. It sounded great.
I haven't seen one that looked anything like it since, despite much searching on t'web.
I sold it in 76 and didn't buy another bass until March 2013. All those wasted years -
+1 for the modern player shirt scale jazz. If anything, for me, the neck felt shorter than other 30" scale basses I have tried, including a mustang. It feels like playing a guitar. The fret spacing seems a lot less than my full scale jazz.

ITYF people are asking that now.

+1 -
Tried one out at PMT in Southend yesterday.
My impressions.
I was impressed by how light it was.
The neck seemed very short, even for a short scale.
The CAR looked great.
Compared to a regular jazz the body is much smaller.
Sounded great especially with just the p pup. I am beginning to wonder whether I should have bought a p or p/j rather than a jazz.
Build quality on the one I tried appeared excellent.
Overall I thought it a very nice instrument but possibly not for me. The neck just seemed too short, affecting playability ( I am 6'6"), although an hour or so of practice would probably sort that out. I did like the lightness of it though. I am still suffering from Sunday's 5 hour long practice session with my MP Jazz.

My bass has a glossy neck and stickiness is not an issue.
