i’m selling my Jones SM1 5 string through neck in high gloss , i bought this for a project and it is only 10 months old , used twice and in mint condition , anybody that knows anything about basses knows the standard of the build for this instrument , it features flamed walnut and maple body , rosewood fretboard with mother of pearl inlays , 18 mm string spacing with through neck construction of the highest level , very similar to a Smith , it has a glockenslang 3 band pre amp , jones armstrong pickups again based on the smiths , this bass has a low action and is a real treasure to play , weight i think is about 10 lbs , fitted with diddario strings , this is a chance to grab one of these rare basses at a sizable discount from new as it is in mint condition , any trial welcome , come and get yourself a bargain

not sure mark has used pauliwinia as he didn’t kno anything about it when i spoke to him but a game changer as far as weight goes
-
the only way you would prob get to that weight is to use paulownia wood which sandberg are now using
-
i’m not sure you will achieve your desired weight and if so probably it would suffer from neck dive , my sm1 is heavy and sits level but not tilted , unless mark can come up with other ideas
-
yes a total balls up , the pick ups are v deep and the body depth wasn’t deep enough to accommodate , the plate wasn’t even recessed which made it worse so i declined it but mark did refund my money
-
i was just commentating on it as i hav a jones mk1 , it is the 1 on his web site hi gloss , i asked for weight reduction but didnt get it so its quite heavy , the build of it is lovely , i did order a mk 2 with multicoils only to for him to tell me after completed he’d routered out completely thro the bac so i refused it and he sold it on , a shame as it looked grt from the front
-
did u choose not to buy it in end as it looks v much like the one jones posted pics of yesterday

not using many multicoils due to cost

Hi there yes i purchased a sm1 late last year , i was looking for a smith of which i already have a Hadreien feraud , but wanted an american thro neck version , then someone tipped me off about jones basses , after a few chats with Mark Jones i took a leap of faith having not tried 1 or even seen 1 , i specked it as i wanted , roll on 2 months later the bass turned up , the build quality and finish is already at a usa Smith level , sound wise you will get the same tones as a smith as the pick ups come from the same supplier , the woods are very similar and the construction is exactly the same , i was blown away with this bass partic as it’s 40% of the cost of the likewise Smith , so pleased with this i ordered a different design and different pick up configuration which i will be receiving next week , ive already seen pictures of it during the build and have no doubt it will be as good as the sm1 . If anybody is looking for a truly fantastic handmade bass i can recommend these , altho they are expensive compared to mass produced basses they are a snip compared to smith , fodera ect and just as good

yes i bort 1 in december last year liked it so much ive just purchased another with different pups and shape , fantastic build quality and although expensive a snip to said other makes
