That's very tempting indeed... and you can spec any colour combo?
Well at the moment providing they manufacture the particular colour already, it just a case of choosing the neck, pick guard and body combo that you want. Check out their website and look at all the variations available in the standard Bass Collection and British Bass Masters series and a combo of any one of those three elements will work. If you had a particular pick guard that you liked and they didn't have it, just buy it yourself and take it along, much like I did with my pickups.

In conversation with Barry I gather I planted the seed at the London Bass guitar show in 2014, but he had not done anything more about it, when i made my mind up and approached him this year to make my bass, he got very enthusiastic and i think given enough requests he would formalise the 'bespoke' service as a regular product offer. To me its a no brainer - the Bass Collection bodies and necks are the equal of any Fender and if you want fancier electronics or hardware you can specify that.

The other secret ingredient is it will be assembled and set up by Chris Ward, and if its good enough for John Entwhistle, Norman Watt-Roy and others its good enough for me!

    Like this? http://intl.fender.c...color-sunburst/

Beautiful bass btw. The relic job is really subtle and great!
The photos don't do the relic work justice, particularly the way they have subtly dulled the gloss finish to a satin look, to me this is far more like real road wear than some of the heavy relic jobs you do see.

Mmm got me thinking now, was it expensive?
I'm reluctant to quote price as if the 'bespoke' service takes off Barry may chose to structure the pricing differently, but it was still a lot less than a MIM Fender equivalent

  4. My delight knows no bounds...for those of you who have followed my thread about getting a bespoke instrument made for you, its here, its fantastic and it plays like a dream. Photos below!

Constructed by Bass Collection, Its a P-Bass so you know what you are getting, but the Bare Knuckle '58 pickup, the Babicz bridge and the Elites Detroit Flatwound strings all combine to give a gloriously creamy growl that I have to say upstages my prized Fender American Deluxe Precision.

Colour choice purely to recreate a classic P-Bass look that is only available from Fender at vastly inflated price! I just like the combo of maple neck and sunburst/tortoiseshell guard.

If you want to see a Precision or a Jazz style bass configured in your colour choice and hardware, its worth talking to Barry Moorhouse at The Bass Centre (www.basscentre.com). He did a magnificent job with this instrument and I love the tasteful 'reliced' finish to the body, not OTT, just right. Big thanks to his tech, Mr Chris Ward, who put this instrument together and set it up within a whisker of perfection - for my fingers at least.

Running through my Ashdown BTA200 and Purple Chili 115 cab, all I can say is...WOW.

Exactly that combo is what I ordered from the bass doc and it was perfect in every way. It had jap parts.

I'd like to have added Amy Adams (red head actress) as an accessory to my order but sadly she is not available

You can't have Amy Adams - I was in the queue first!!!

So who is actually building this bass for you?

Its based on their successful Bass Collection range but with a few refinements. My first bass was a J-style from them, and it is still a sweet bass to play. MIM quality and playability for Squire money.

Can you really not get that colour combo on a standard Fender? Wow.

Personally if I were going bespoke I'd get a more unusual finish but it's your bass get what you like :-)

    Enjoy!
Certainly at the moment Fender only offer that colour combo in the American built basses. MIM & Squire you can get near it but with rosewood neck.

Congratulations... nothing like having the exact bass you want made for you :)

How long do you have to wait? ... thats the painful bit.
To my certain knowledge it will be built within a couple of weeks...and I can't wait (but I'll have to)

  10. Bursting with excitement - and sad as I am, I have to share it!

    I've ordered a 'bespoke' bass.

You might not agreed, but to my tired eyes the combo of a Sunburst body P-Bass with tortoiseshell pick guard and maple neck has always struck me as a lovely colour combo...a bit like a redhead with pale skin (insert name of favourite Hollywood lust object here)...highly subjective I know and at least two of my mates hate it!

Can you get this in the shops? Nah...unless you count the vastly overpriced Fender American Deluxe.

But thanks to a very helpful man who's initials are BM I will soon be receiving a superb Korean-made bass built to my specs in that combo, complete with Babicz bridge, Flatwounds and Bare Knuckle '58 split-P pickup.

To give you an idea of the vibe going on here I attach a photo of Colin Wilson (www.aussiefloyd.com).

Oh, and I haven't said how much this is costing me...lets put it this way, I could have three of these for the price of the Fender.

When its finished I'll post a pic and let you know how it plays!

What are your thoughts on having a bass built for you to your very own requirement? And what would you be prepared to pay?

    Phil

  11. Martin,

Many thanks for an easy transaction over the BTA200 - and for a gargantuan beast of an amp.

Top fella - as per his previous feedback, a pleasure to trade with.

Good luck with your house move this coming weekend - rather you than me! I'll be playing bass through your BTA on Saturday morning practice and ruining the life of our guitarist!! Hehe.

    ATB
    Phil
