DJing at a friends house party. 80s theme ... could be interesting

Quick let’s go for a fag and go to another pub. (One that’s like a mile away) ?

Tony interesting you put it in those terms, 'cos what you're implying is that if you're a sufficiently competent player you won't need to use a compressor?
I guess that is really what is underlying my Q about what is it that pro bass players are typically doing? Let's assume they don't have the benefit of sound engineers for a particular gig, would they all be saying 'ok best get my Cali 76 CB (or whatever their favourite 'squeeze' happens to be) on my board for this gig then?' or 'cos they are excellent bass players would they not really ever bother?
Pretty much. I like a squashed signal so I don’t need to worry about digging in or any other dynamics. I just hit the strings and the tone is the same no matter how hard I play. Consistancy in tone. But yeah I’m lazy. Haha

Split the signal into two amps. One that covers the sub low end and one that covers the low mid honk. Compress the sub and feed the mid through some drive or dirt.
Now you have fat toanz

Some people compress. Some don’t. It’s a matter of preference I guess.
Im one of those who does. Purely because I’m a lazy sloppy player.

Trace Elliot transit b? All in one box
-
I need all of them because play runs and octaves
any missing string will do me in haha
thinking about out it tho probably the E or the A string. I could probably live without the 4th or the 3rd.

Don’t cheap it out.
Play the tape tape through a decent tape deck. Not a portable Walkman.
I ripped some of my old mixtapes via a portable and it sounded awful - highs were cut, wobbles, flutters etc
played it through the denon tape deck- sounded a lot better by 3x at least
So when you rip them - do play through a high quality deck into an audio interface usb FireWire whatever
I got a denon DRR6.5 and DRW 585 into an alesis io2 audio interface

Playing tastefully, in time, with own transport and punctual.

Wasn’t at gig but in rehearsal and the amp went pop and no bass.
It was a 60w combo. Old thing. Cranked. I’m surprised it went on for as long as it did ha!

Enthusiasm over ability
you might be amazing but if you ain’t enjoying it, not fun no more.
Im very basic at instruments. Can play a lot of them but not very good at any of them. Have fun playing all of them at a basic or medium/mediocre level. I’m happy with that.
Fun is all that matters I reckon. It’s gotta be fun.

Buy a midi pad controller and start messing with VST synths drums etc. Super fun.

Sustain? Discuss.

Depends on your style and genre
ive been in experimental bands where sustain is useful
drone or sludge type music, long single notes rather than your typical 8th or 16th notes etc
again it’s subjective
