  1. Hi Highfox, cheers for the reply man, nice to know the build quality isn't hit and miss like previous years from what I've read, I'm pretty damn certain I'm gonna have flatwounds on my future Ric, always wanted to try flats properly and they just give a killer tone on a Ric!

This may lead to my looking like a right dunce here but; Has anyone ever experimented with Oak as a body wood? I'm looking at all the options available to me in terms of my next bass, even looking at maybe going down the custom route with which I've been pondering what my ideal Bass would be made from and I notice that no Luthiers are advertising the use of Oak, is there a reason other than the density and price as to why there aren't oak basses out there? What's Oaks tonal qualities as opposed to Maple, Ash or Mahogany? Thanks
  3. I'm in the market for a Ric currently! Got massive GAS for one aha still waiting to play one properly though only ever played my mates Dad's Ric which is from the 70s and somewhat in low quality but it was lovely! I'm quite liking the Candy Apple Red finish, looks so bright and eye popping Is there any negatives to your Ric at all?
  4. I've played both and liked both, however I find the feel of a maple board a tad nicer and the tone like others say is slightly brighter, it's not a massive difference though! Aesthetically it depends on what you're going for, but play both and see what you think it's personal choice at the end of the day

  6. Been looking for a Ric and this looks LOVELY! What is the full spec on this? Does it have dual outputs and the "Ric'o'sound" push pull knob? Thanks James
  7. True, he did and was rather amazing at that! Oh the keyboardists I've come across thus far have been generally ok, for now. However drummers and guitarists are just awful awful people! But all are over shadowed by that fantastic thing that is a singer! Oh how unfortunately necessary they are in the majority of music! I'll take a look sometime
  8. I'll chuck my few pence worth into the mix even if this will like like a poor showing compared to most! Squire Bronco bass (3/4 scale): Got it when I was 9 sold it after 2-3 years of owning it. Thought it was lovely when I first got it and learnt what I needed to learn to get my started till I grew a few inches! Squire P-Bass Affinity series: Got this one Christmas about 2 years after the Bronco and immediately wasn't seen in public or in my own house for a good few months as I was in my room playing bass all day everyday, well once I got home from school anyway! Still own it and probably will never sell it unlike the Bronco, if I ever have kids they'll learn to play bass on this hopefully! Traben John Moyer Standard Signature: I've had this bass for the past 4-5 years now, it's an active bass with Rockfield humbuckers and a 3 band EQ, got this bass after trying many many different basses, think it took me 9 months to find this! It plays very well with a modification of the action and some lower gauge strings. Although I do love this bass it's just not me anymore, it's too metal tonally and hasn't got the clarity to cut through the mix. Which is why I'm backing in the market properly looking for something to replace this with
  9. Hi Bert, Definitely is James aha, only Bassist I can think of who shares the name James is Mr James Jamerson aha I hope I fit into the place quite well? Seems many of us on here which is fantastic to see, sick of getting stuck with bloody guitarists and drummers everywhere else! Haha I wish! When I was 16 I was still sat/stood in my bedroom playing along to Maiden tracks sadly, however I hope I do get to even meet those guys one day, I'm pretty certain they'll even manage to out last my career and I'm just starting out!
  10. Evening Leen, yeah I know everyone says that, plus I'm practically a hobbit so at 10 I ended up learning on a 3/4 scale neck it was a Red Squire Bronco bass! Bloody loved that thing! I got into the idea of bass when I came across John Entwistle and Steve Harris! Well that and a mate had recently started learning guitar and we came up with the plan that by 16 (I know we aimed a tad high!) We'd be supporting Maiden at Wembley! Although that same mate and I are still playing together and studying the same degree at the same place in fact!
