1. Thank You for Your answer. I'm unable to take pictures at the moment, but it looks very, very similar to that picture: http://basschat.co.u...-1280435971.jpg . And I don't want to "repair" it that way: http://www.kontrabas...uben_Griffb.jpg . As a picture frame maker I'm used to work carefully with wood. Best, Thomas
2. Hi! I just bought a very nice carved 4/4 double bass in top condition for 354,-- € - exept: the neck is broken . Now I want to remove the fingerboard to screw the neck to the heel after fixing it with hide glue. I tried everything with great patience: Heat on the radiator (80° C), hot steam, electric iron, alcohol - nothing works, I can't get a little gap between neck and fingerboard, even at the beginning, to continue the work like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhAZSiRfDB4&nofeather=True . And I don't want to ruin the ebony fingerboard and/or the maple neck. Has anyone any idea? Best, Thomas

5. Hi! It is not possible to use the Evahs with magnetic PUs. I tried it on my CR 5M, but went back to Spirocores. Best Thomas
6. Hi! One thought: A carved top in average has a thickness of 4,5 - 9 mm http://www.kontrabassbau.at/bilder/DickenDecke.jpg . A laminated top - also side and back - is stiffer but can have a thickness of about 5 mm over all. So it should be able to vibrate more -> louder - but with less quality of sound. Best Thomas
7. Hi Darren! Thank You very much for the video! I already posted it in two German an one Swiss double bass forums. Thomas

11. Hi Richard! The Gut-a-like E string has very low tension and sounds very weak on most basses, only recommended if the bass is amplified. "The Jazzer" are very fine strings for pizzicato, I think a little better ("fantastic growl") than Spirocore mittel/medium on most basses and they seem to be the strings with the longest sustain on the market. Thomas
12. Hi! The only web site you really need: http://www.gollihurmusic.com/links.cfm - with more than 900 links to other bass web sites. Thomas
13. Hi Mr Bassman! If You like the Obligatos - good for You. But zipideebass's question was for strings for his CR 5 M - with magnetic PUs. For this EUB you need strings with a magnetic steel core! I purchased an used CR 5 M and it was strung with brand new Spirocore mittel/medium. My first thougt: How can I ever bow (90%) these strings, but it went fine after one week. They didn't look nice at the mechanics so I removed the silk and some of the wrapping and fixed it with superglue. My recommendation: Spirocore! For most players the weich/soft should be perferable but I like strings with a higher tension. Thomas
