  1. Regrettably I have to sell my beloved Barefaced cab. This is of the first generation of Barefaced cabs, and has been used for many gigs - so it well loved and it sounds wonderful. I'm only selling as I need to fund my masters in Australia, and I can't feasibly bring it with me.

It is a 15" and an 6.5" speaker in one box, with a sophisticated crossover, and it is damn loud and punchy. At the time of production it was the Barefaced flagship model, the predecessor to the Big Twin. I play it with a Terror Bass and it kills, but it'll perform excellently with almost any amp. It is awesome in a loud rocknroll band and a very loud ska band. As you'd expect from barefaced, it's light. It's a wonderful one cab solution for a relatively small powerful rig.

Areas that are showing wear are the handles - they are beginning to wear out, but are still functional. The cloth is also sagging just a little near the top of the cab - I have included lots of pics to illustrate this.

It's rough and ready for rock n roll.

I'm not in the UK at the moment, so I can arrange for buyer to view / pickup at my brother's studio in Southampton. Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask and I'll reply as soon as I can.

    Cheers, Zak

I think Larry McDonald did a lot of work with Lee scratch Perry , who I used to listen to a lot back in the day 🙂

He did, and still does! Toots, Gil Scott Heron, the list goes on. Such a legend. 84 years old and switched right on.

  3. It was SO much fun to produce and play on this one, with family and friends, plus some legends. Larry McDonald (percussionist for Bob Marley, Gil Scott Heron, Toots, Lee Scratch Perry and countless others) kindly agreed to be a part of this, for the sake of making music. David Hillyard of The Slackers was also humble enough to join us again.

Ah man, I wish this band could play together in real life.

  4. A 1993 MIJ I picked up in Bangkok for roughly £200.

The pots had fallen apart, a few dings, but otherwise good. Good neck, with some really nice flame in the maple.

I spoke to basschat's KiOgon about some new electronics, and he whipped me up a 62 3-hole control plate with a pickup selector (neck, series, parallel, bridge) and tone switch (capacitor, bypass, kill) and maaaaan she is singing. Whacked on an omega bridge and some new hybrid slinkies and I have myself a solid funk machine.

Who knew that series mode on a jazz was so good? I almost didn't include it, as I was on a quest for simplicity. Also, no volume knob is fun - the bass is either on or off, fun mode or rest mode.

My old school radio knobs ended up not quite fitting, so I'm now looking for knobs, but otherwise, I'm delighted.

    What do ya reckon??

Absolutely brilliant! Well done! A whole new career awaits, I'd say...

Thanks mate! Going to try to keep this ongoing. There's been a flood of messages from musicians wanting to get involved so I've hired a full horn section for the next one. Could get interesting.

  6. Hope it's legal to repost my own video here. I put this together with my reggae artist friend Chris Murray. Dave Hillyard of The Slackers on sax. I'm delighted with it. If you don't know them already DEFINITELY check out Chris Murray and The Slackers!

That’s a great recording, even just on my phone everything is just in the right place in the mix.

Thanks Lozz. All recorded on phones too (apart from my DI'd bass). I'm no technician but with a bit of patience I think I actually managed to make it sound half decent

    Nice tune Duarte 👍

Cheers! I somehow managed to get rocksteady royalty Dave Hillyard of The Slackers to lay down some sax on this one which was the most awesome thing. I guess I'll have to do another one ;)

  9. With my one, I had everyone record with just their phone microphones (basically just film themselves playing with no proper audio recording), but I decided that the bass wouldn't work well like that so I recorded with my Apogee Duet into macbook, while filming on my phone.

Audio mixed in my DAW and video synced up afterwards in final cut. It was not too labour intensive, so we're doing another.

  10. Seems like everyone is doing these, so I put one together with some friends and family.

Producing these videos is more difficult than it seems!

Also, I think it sounds damn good for what is almost exclusively phone recordings. The only exception is the bass which is DI'd.

Feedback appreciated, as I'm working on a sequel.

    Cheers!
