  1. You really have two options buy new or pre-loved
Having recently gone through the minefield of buying a Double bass the general feeling is to AVOID G4M.
Like most things you get what you pay for, Stingraypete recently brought a nice bass new from Gedomusik.de for around £900
From what Pete has said it was decently setup to the style he required and arrived in good time, also came with a free bow and some rosin.

There is also Thomann.de seem to have decent reviews for some of the cheaper bass
I brought a Pre-Loved Bass from Ceilidhswinger yesterday for £900 and it was exactly as described a beautiful 3/4 curved blonde with loud voice :gas:
Also if you buy from Forum members your not going to get taken for a ride.

    Not much help i know

Also ask questions of the Double bass forum you will get many experienced responses

  2. I havent been able to shift the EUB so i think ill use it for nearly silent practice when the bloke down stairs is sleepin :P
Cause this new bass is loud :P

I ordered the Stand over a week ago and its still in transit from Germany so against the telly it goes

  3. I have just brought a Double bass from Ceilidhswinger.
Good bloke and knowledgeable about all things Double bass and then some.
He also threw in a soft case to ensure it gets to its new home in one piece.

Would be glad to buy again from him.

  4. Will be buying the recommended french Yita bow, Though i am nervous about starting lessons as i have not been in any formal structured learning for over 14 years. just the unknown i suppose.
As for the rosin well ill have a look around and ask more people it seems to be horses for courses.

Also nervous and excited about the new bass, always a little worrying welcoming a new member to the family.
Cant wait for the look on my wifes face when she realises the enormity of the instrument, and the fact i cant sell my Stagg EUB

  5. After looking at many a loverly bass and thinking about the smell of sawdust and varnish.
My old man is a sawmiller and has several loverly slabs of Jarrah and Birdseye Sheoak in the shed the latter would look like

    after its finished and polished

I went looking to see if anyone had done such a thing and only found a few Luthiers in Australia who have tried this bloke has/is and though its not finished it will be something special.
