1. Anyone thinking of building a cab? I have a pile of stuff that needs moving. All prices exclusive of p+p. Pickup would be best. I can also meet up within a reasonable distance for diesel cost.

If you buy a bunch of stuff I can work out a better price. Payment by paypal as a gift, bank xfer, cheque clearing, or cash.

EDIT: 1 unopened grey (not black, although it's dark grey with lighter grey strands) carpet pack, 6x9 feet + an L-shaped portion of black carpet. See pic for sizes on black piece. £5 for all of it. NOTE. These sizes before were in cm which was wrong, the actual sizes are inches. I'm a plonker.
Grey pack ON HOLD pending payment.
Black portion still available but a bit smaller now.

3 cans of spray adhesive. Not sure I can post these really. £1 a can ON HOLD pending payment

10 or so bar handles like this £1 each - 2 ON HOLD, 8 awaiting confirmation

2 chrome spring handles £2 for the pair - Still available

3 edge handles similar to this £1 each - 2 ON HOLD pending payment

A load of white wadding to line the inside of the cab £5 - ON HOLD awaiting confirmation

EDIT: 4 metal grills, 2 small and 2 large. See pics for sizes. £5 each (may be tricky to post these) - 3 SOLD pending payment. 1 small grill still available

    small grill

    large grill

10-12 1016 piezo tweeters £1 each (these are good ones bought from someone who built Bill Fitzmaurice cabs) 10 ON HOLD

10-15 square piezos £1 each still available

I even have a table saw if you want :)

  2. Well, I have one and they are a great bass. Passive or active, loads of versatility and very playable. I had a Stingray for a while but the neck was too chunky. The BA is great to play.

It may be more a thing of taste. A few musos came up to me at a gig thins weekend saying they loved the tone and usually love EB but they didn't care for the look.

At the end of the day it's a bass that does more than most but looks odd. You really need to try them in a band situation to appreciate them. They're not really that complicated. :)

  3.
Big +1 to the Epi Clasp

Having suffered from Epicondylitis in my left elbow for a number of years and tiring of endless bouts of painkillers and anti-inflammatories, I purchased one of these on a friends recommendation. Within two months the symptoms cleared up and now only both me after a severe bout of DIY but the clasp counters this within a day or so.
I just ordered one off fleabay. I don't want to do painkillers for weeks and weeks, nor do I want a cortizone/steroid injection.

I'm a lefty who plays righty and like TNIT, am a programmer. It's my left elbow, and seems more like the golfer elbow as it's my funny bone ligament that is the source of discomfort.
I think it was a combo of coding a big app recently and not playing enough...a bit of rsi from the keyboard and then playing a gig the night I got back from being away for a week and not playing at all. Still pretty sore. Bleck

  4.
WARNING. When the strings are not tight the sounpost might collapse if you move the instrument around. It SHOULD be ok, but it is at your own risk.
I put a few heavy books on the table over the soundpost so there is preasure on it and lessens the chance of it falling.

  5.
Try getting yourself a forearm clasp from a phsio. Great job and helped me a lot when I had my tennis elbow problems (and you get to look like yer man Greenwood from Radiohead to boot!). I'm afraid to say you'll be lucky if it clears up in a few weeks...
Yeah, the doctor recommended I get one of the forearm clasps. And I agree, it's going to be more than a few weeks.

I took two weeks off playing, eating Ibuprofen all day and then tried playing on Sunday. Hurt after about 6 notes. I have med-high action with Evah weichs. Might have to go to Honeys again ot Velvet Blues to ease string tension.

Just a bit gutted though as playing db is my most favoritest musical thing.

  6.
Due to the fact that most modern cheap basses are made at a price, they are barely finished as they get put in the box in china and shipped, hence my s/h stagg eub I purchased of a great guy was none the less not good when played, dead spots, fuzzy spots, terrible action etc and after a good look down it, a ski slope neck, so, planed of the black polymer finish, maple board underneath resanded and oiled, ebony nut and what have I got, 1 fantastic eub...be warned, you pay for what you get. (p.s a luthier did it for me)
It's not just cheap ones. I bought an expensive one recently and it'll need the finger board shooting soon and the bridge needs some tweaking.

I think it's more of "you get what you get" :)

  7.
Hi Guys,

Just bought a Double Bass and was wondering what the best strings would be for a beginner who wants to play Jazz ??
I'm a professional electric player so its important to me that i don't wreck my hands so I'm looking for an easy ride regarding keeping those fingers safe and sound.

    Thanks Peeps.....
Don't forget to look at having a few lessons to make sure your technique is correct. You can end up hurting yourself, even if the strings are easy to play.
