4. The block necks disappeared in 82 along with the arrival of white pickups and knobs, £750 isnt a bad price for an early 80's jazz,... Id check the pots and pups for dates though just to make sure

 8.
But I would be betting that is a P-bass on the track...
Its a great sound whatever he's playing... Here's some of Corrado Rustici recent stuff....very Mark Knopfler esq... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHzKdpePTGE
 9.
Did you find these? http://www.discogs.c...3-Barry-Johnson http://www.talkbass....ns-bass.365268/ B
Looks like he's added a bit of timber from the guy I remember........
 10.
I'd say that is a P-bass...... compressed with a drivey sound. All of which would have been about par at the time. Probably what was en vogue at the time would have been a mutron box...
He definately played a Wal bass, live at least , I remember as it was the first Wal bass I'd ever seen, complete with Leather scratchplate, you can just about see him on the far right,
 11.
No idea, sounds great though. Any tips for where to start with Nova's back catalog?
Saw them live twice in the late 70's early 80's , Italian jazz rock band from what I can remember and the main man was Corrado Rustici,He's still going .you can find some of his stuff on Youtube.
 12. Been listening to the fabulous Barry Johnson on an old Nova album Ive had since the late 70's....just wondered if the bass sound has any effects on it or not.... I know he's playing an early Wal bass as I saw them live touring this album when they supported Caravan at the Free trade hall.......love the bass sound around 50 secs in just wondered what effects, if any, are on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2pNd_l3-Sk
 13. Three man army - space is the place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoZs6nXyw8s
 14.
So if it's not Fender, it's weird? The point you're missing here is that one Fender Jazz looks much the same as another Fender Jazz, barring the colour. The ebay forum is going to get pretty bloody boring (not to mention unreadable, and full) if every time a different Jazz bass is put on That Ebay, it gets posted up as a dream bass.
I never said it was a dream bass for everyone, I said it was my dream Bass....you want to disagree, no problem.....each to his own
 15.
This video obviously left an impression on me in my youth.
The old bedroom curtains round the shoulders trick.......great look..
 16. Nice video Scott and a lovely, lovely Bass Ive had a Bass built by Brian myself and can vouch for the quality of his work, but Ive got to say that Bass is beautiful ...... Ian
 17.
I'm saying that jazz basses are as exciting as Mondeos. Almost. And the white ones are just a little special, like the needs of their owners. Big smiley goes here.
Unbelievable..........
 18.
It's because it's white. Think about it, how many white Mondeos do you see? They're just a little bit special.
Your comparing a vintage 1973 Fender jazz bass to a Mondeo.....?
 19.
I had to look up the OP bass player as not familiar with him, does a cracking job on that tune. Randy Jo Hobbs, apparently died aged only 45
Must admit, I'd not seen him before but what a great ,great song........Johnny Winter...king of the slide
 20. Got to get me a new image and Im thinking this is the way forward..... Click the youtube logo bottom right to watch the vid
 21. Going to California - Led Zep http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IZ-jATBq9A
 22.
It's not a "why do you like them?" question. For me it was more a "what makes this bass more special than any other Fender Jazz?" question. I could understand it if the OP had actually had a go on the bass in question and it was an awesome sounding and playing instrument, but it's just some photos in an eBay listing. So what is it?
ive posted this reply once already on this thread, but just for you I'll post it again...... Horses for courses mate......I started playing bass in 1974 at the age of 11, all I ever wanted in them days was a real Fender jazz..it took me the best part of 10 years before I could afford one, Ive loved them ever since. The older jazzers evoke a feeling for me that I cant really explain other than to say, that every time I pick one up, or see an old vintage jazz ,that feeling of the first time I owned one comes flooding back. For me its not about money or making money on old vintage guitars, it's the way they make me feel.....but hey...each to his own
 23.
I agree...another boring jazz bass...er.....wow
Boring ........???????
 24. Camel - breathless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVJKEH8hA0Y&index=3&list=PL7DED236DF149CBFC
 25.
I've been watching since the '76 re runs as well, and really like it. There's great stuff, as well as the tosh. But it all makes it what it is. I was far too young to see it first time around, so it's quite a treat. TBH the '79 shows so far aren't as good for me as '77/'78. Maybe as it's the time I start to remember some of what was on....I was only 5, but it was always on in the house, so I suppose it's my first musical memory. ....and you can't top Legs & Co., can you? Tina Charles......maybe!
Debbie Harry..? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxpe1oSp_sg
