1. I like to think i'm average, but every now and again I start thinking i'm way below as i have absolutely no confidence. Then i dig out one of my old prog demo's and feel better until i remember the reviews we used to get, great drummer/guitarist/singer.....no mention of bass. Ah well, I'm happy.

2. Here's the latest from my band Abandoned Stars...more 'power' metal then prog but there a bit of prog in there. It's from our new CD 'Fragments

Oh yeah.....it's a lyric video and i forgot how to post this properly......bah!

3. My band Abandoned Stars are now on hiatus as our guitarist moved to France! So, as we couldn't find a replacement we have teamed up with another guitarist and keyboardist.
I have been playing prog rock/metal for years and now these new guys are heavily into 'new' metal and especially Djent.
I like a bit of Tesseract Periphery etc but getting my head round playing this style is difficult for me.
For a start, the guitarist doesn't play in standard tuning, he says he's tuned to B flat or A or some other. I spent a week trying to learn a track without realizing this! Now I think i should try to tune down so i can play these fast riffs easier.
I'm not sure the bass is playable tuned the same way as the guitars. I'm interested to hear from other Djenty style bass players and how they cope with down tuned guitars and whatnot. Help needed folks......

4. I'm not long back from The Cropredy Festival where much folk & Prog was on offer. Chas & Dave were on the bill too, and I viewed that listing with a bit of a chuckle as they had been playing Download or sonisphere earlier and clearly had been booked as light relief what with Steve Hackett (Nick Beggs on bass) & Marilion on the bill also.
Anyway, on they come and eh?? what’s this?? Proper playing? Chas or Dave....the one on bass was great. Being over 40 meant that i knew most of the songs as they had been regulars in the charts when i was younger but i had never noticed how busy the bass was. It was fantastic! Not that I’ll be buying gercha on single or anything but what a nice surprise. Better than Marillion who bored the crap out of me (not good at a festival....) Nick Beggs however was just on a different planet but that's another story.

5. Ok so i did it. Just to say, the bit where you have to put how much you would pay for it is to vague. It doesnt say how long you would have the service for, it could be for 3 songs or a whole album worth but you have to put one number in the space. Just saying.

My Band Abandoned Stars are playing the Semi-final of the Metal 2 the masses competition in Ivory Blacks Glasgow on Tuesday 29th April. The winner of the Nationwide comp apparently gets to play at Bloodstock fest. Fair enough we're only at the semi's of the Scottish heats....even so, we'd love for some folks to pop round and show some love basschat way.
We were given 10 tickets and its embarrasing having to return them coz naebody wants to go out on a tuesday in Glasgow! It's not just us either, the previous rounds we played to the other bands!! We need to buck this trend. If your from Glasgow and like a bit of a headbang pop in.

Thanks for listening

7. Hello,

8. Many years ago I played Anthonys Hotel in Kirckaldy with an originals band.....the PA didn't turn up and it was a big room. Then the Satan slaves (hells angels) turned up!! Needless to say they never payed....prob coz my mate on the door never asked them, no idea why. The Guitarists new wireless packed up and me and the drummer had to try to entertain the slaves with some freeeform 'jazz oddessy'.

9. I've been a fan since yonks and i went to the CA tour....It was fantastic!! The string section they had really made a difference. Even with the bulk of the show about the new stuff they still played plenty old ones. I'm not bothered about doing a 40th a 41st is good enough. I worry that Geddys voice struggles these days so i think they are limited on what they can play so how much it'll be a fan oriented show i don't know, but then again all their shows are fan oriented...arn't they?

10. Played the Teviot underground in Edinburgh last night. Played there a few times now and know I can'r rely on the house bass combo so I bought my new(to me) Ampeg rig. One of the other bassists from support (of which there was 3) asked to use it which i said fine. But after soudcheck we headed out for food and on return 1st band was on and were using my rig without having asked. Peed me right off!
sold a few CD's though what cheered me up.
