Congratulations to all the family. It'll be your toughest but best gig ever!
-
Still available. How about a tenner for a new D string?
-
I need some advice on something I have never done. My folding bass's tuners have got really stiff due to constant windings and unwinding. Is it ok to use a wee bit WD40 or is it a no-no and there is something else better?
Thanks in advance y'all. -

Wouldn't save you much, the money's in the guts.

Santa bump at £120

Great idea for a thread: lots of fantastic guys/gals in this forum and it's great to sprinkle some Christmas magic and say thanks, because I think we all learn a lot on these pages, it's a great resource. Have a swingin' Christmas!

Is it really really flimsy and wobbly? A normal bass can be slapped forever with no need for special re-inforcements, and any luthier can change a fingerboard and set a bridge for slap given basic instructions on what you need. Now, if you stand on it and do stunts, it may be a different matter...

+1 on what fabbabass says. I have bought stuff from Blast Cult from the UK and I too have found that both Jason and Miguel are great: deal with confidence there.

Bumpety bump

Garbos now sold.
Anyone for a Presto D?
Good way to try the character f these strings for only £15... -
Yes sure, please send me a personal message and we'll get it all sorted.
-
Now £30 each for the Garbos and £15 for the presto and on eBay too.
-
Now down to £140 and on eBay too.

Brand New, still in their wrapper!
G and D are guts, A and E are very low tension steels. A genius set of strings from the always excellent Blast Cult. I had bought this as a spare set but I don't need it. -
If no takers, going on ebay at the weekend...don't make me do it...make me an offer via pm, open to negotiation (no exchange unless for guts).

I keep coming back to the Willie Dixon vid. Love it. Technique specialists out there care to comment? He sounds amazing, yet seems to break all the rules - doesn't brace his thumb against fingerboard, stands alongside the bass rather than slightly behind it. What can we learn from that?

There are may ways to play any instruments. Take the guitar as a prime example: if they had stuck to the classical technique, we would never have had rock n roll. Likewise, a pristine classical double bass technique will get you nowhere in roots music. Willie played gut strings and high action, yet he did so with such facility because of practice I guess, and also because he was a bloody huge man. -
I see that Clarky has a Lenzner G for sale: someone should try that with my strings above (or even just my Garbos plus Lenzner D and G).
Just a helpful thought (and of course a bump) -
They are good for starting out and it is very transportable as it is a small 3/4. All the best

She needs a lot of work on her technique! I mean, stance, right hand and left hand are all wrong... She does have other assets though...

I don't suppose you're able to get a rough measurement from the string end/tailpiece to the nut on the bass you used them on? I'm looking for new strings for my Stagg EUB, but apparently 3/4 strings don't fit. No worries if you can't!
Cheers

The Blast Cult Low Life strings are approximately 175cm long in total. They were fitted to a regular 3/4 bass.

Rev, I seem to remember from previous post that Danny Thompson is you favourite bass player. Check out his album "Connected". Of course there is some great playing on it, but more to the point, my wife and I played it at bedtime for our baby daughter over her first few weeks and she slept brilliantly with it: we edited out a couple of more uptempo numbers, the rest is really relaxing and much better than all the plinky plonky lullabies CDs.
I am so excited for you both! Babies are brilliant!!
