The bloke who does my amps has seen a number of Marks with this problem, which he puts down to the D-class power switching as noted by Soulfinger above.
Does this mean an amp technician could fix the problem or is it just a 'characteristic' of these amps?
Check with EA about the real world impedance of these - I have a feeling that in the regions of high power demand it's lower than you'd expect for a typical nominal 8 ohm cab. I believe I read something about this ages ago and certainly the transmission line design would tie in with lower impedance in the bass register. This could cause overcurrent problems at higher volumes, which does tend to be a problem with ultra-lightweight amps due to the power supply being as small as is possible whilst still achieving the power specs with typical loads. Alex
I'm gonna check this out. THANKS!
Check the wiring in your cabs for loose connections/dry joints.
Are you suggesting it's a problem with the cabs and not the amp? Or that bad connections in the cabs could cause the amp to cut out?
"My first one cut out for short periods from new, proel sent a new one straight away."
Maybe I should have bought a new one
And by some folks on the Swiss(German/Austrian) bass forum I frequent, among them F1 and LM250 users. Some of them have sent their amps back to Markbass who are very interested in finding out what´s happening. So you´re not alone. Some blame the D-class power switching but the jury is still out ATM... You´re not using Eden cabs by any chance?
I'm sure the cabs are 8 Ohmns; they're a pair of EA CXL-112. I'm a bit gutted as everyone keeps going on about how good they are (and I certainly am pleased with the sound, power and weight) meanwhile the ashdown superflys get slagged off for being under-powered and unreliable (and mine never let me down, even if I was tempted to use it as a plate warmer). I've sent an email to Markbass (their auto responder tells me they'll soon be back from NAMM) and I'm just waiting for the technical department of Proel to finish unloading a lorry (so their receptionist tells me). Thanks for the help.
Chocked with dust inside? Might find carpet in there.
It's very clean... and it has an ironically large heat sink (if it is a thermal problem). (Thanks for the suggestion!)
Hmm... sounds like a classic thermal issue. Did you have anything sitting on top of the amp? A pedal, or anything?
Little Mark was just sitting on top of the cabs with nothing on top or next to him. The case was quite warm but no way near as warm as the Ashdown Superfly I had before (and that performed with no problems). I wondered if it was a thermal safety cut out, but the fan was running unobstructed and the room wasn't hot and there were no stage lights in the room. Could the thermal cut out be a little overly cautious?

I recently bought a Little Mark II from another BCer. I tried it out at a reheasal on Saturday (You can imagine how annoying I was as I bragged about how light it is to the guitarist stuggleing with a HUGE fender amp.) I'd been playing for about an hour with the gain and master both at half way when the sound completely cut out. (There were no pops, bangs or other nasty sounds and there was no smoke, fire or bad smells.) The power light was still on though. After about a minute it started working again. About half an hour later this happened again. But I'm pleased to say it started working again after it had a little rest. This wasn't a problem as it was just a practise, but could be very embarrasing at a gig. The amp was sitting on top of my cabs and it was not in a rack. Can anyone shed any light on what's going on here and if they've experienced something similar? (I was playing a 4 string active jazz bass and the amp was connected to 2 8Ohmn 12" cabs.) Thanks for any help. (Not quite so smug now about my light-weight, but slightly part-time amp ).
Ok, so I'm trying to find a reason not to buy this. If I haven't found one by the morning I shall get back to you. Edit: Looking at the superfly reviews on harmony central, a few of the reviews complain about some high-pitched whistle. Have you encountered this problem with yours?
I have taken it to band rehearsals and no-one noticed the 'whistle', not even me, and I was listening for it and waiting for someone to complain about it! But when there are other people in the room chatting you don't hear it. I've set it up at venues and no-one noticed it (it doesn't get louder as you turn the output up). I only hear it when practicing at home on my own in a silent room. I wouldn't recommend this for bedroom practice because of this, but any public performance isn't affected by it at all. You can only hear it when you stop playing (in a very quiet room) when you play you cannot hear it at all. Again I'm only selling this since I've just bought another amp so this is just going to be sitting around. Even though I'm very tempted to keep it as a back-up. So if anyone just wants the cabs and leaves me with the amp I'll not be disappointed.
Damn that's far too tempting. I have one technical question though, what's the difference between a 2x250W, and a normal 500W amplifier? Not sure the guys at the ticket gate would be too happy with you taking that onboard unfortunately.
A 500W amplifier has one power amplifier and will deliver upto 500W of power into a 4Ohmn cab or two 8Ohmn cabs linked together. A 2x250W amplifier like this Superfly has two power amplifiers which each give out 250W into a 4Ohmn cab or two 8Ohmn cabs linked together. So the total would be 500W as with the 500W amp. With this set up you won't get a full 500W from the amp since each cab is 8Ohmn. So you might get something like 150W to 175W from each cab. That probably doesn't sound like much but it's still 300W to 350W from the rig, which certainly isn't quiet. When I played in a medium sized pub venue I was at about 6 out of 10 on the 'output' control. Any louder was too loud. That was with a 5 piece pop/rock band. (Turning up louder didn't give any distortion either, which was great.) The superflys have taken a lot of stick for the 2x250W power arrangement but it gives the same amount of power as an Ashdown EVO 300W head and is WAY cheaper. For £110 I don't think you can go far wrong. One for the amplifier experts: Does running an amp into an 8Ohmn load give you more headroom than when you use a 4Ohmn load?
When you say with delivery, does that include down to london? I'm contemplating taking you up on this, but it seems a rather long way to Lincoln.
Exactly! I'll post these to you in London with 48 hour delivery... for no extra charge. That's either with or without the amp. (I'm actually coming to London Myself soon, but I don't think I'll be able to get them on the train without annoying everyone. Has anyone ever tried taking a bass rig on a train before? The weight wouldn't be a problem, but they'd take up a lot of the baggage space.)
I would be very interested but they are a bit out of my budget. If there's no takers in the next few weeks and you're willing to shed a few pounds, then maybe I can make you an offer.
I'm always open to offers, you never know... the worst you're gonna get from me is a 'no'.

(See bottom of this post for festive offer.) It's looking like I'll be collecting some new cabs pretty soon and my house just isn't big enough... so these'll have to go: Warwick Neo Pro 12" 300W - 8 ohm with adjustable tweeter 17kg/37lbs http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/pro...25304&cl=EN Warwick Neo Pro 15" 400W - 8 ohm no tweeter 23kg/51lbs http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/pro...25305&cl=EN This is a hole in the covering (the only one I've noticed). Both are VERY light, easily lifted with one hand. They have 2 speakon and 2 jack sockets on the back. They're both in perfect working order and are very clean. There are just some scratches on the 'W' of the 15"'s grill and a hole on the covering of the 12", but it's not noticable. They look great and stck very nicely. My band were impressed when I changed to these cabs, my drummer said he could hear my notes more clearly and I was asked to turn down They work well together and look good as a pair so... £390 or nearest cheeky offer for both including delivery! FESTIVE OFFER £500 with Ashdown Superfly amplifier Used this rig last night and it worked great. (I'm not really keen on selling this head, but if it'll help someone out with getting a nice little rig then I'll let it go as a package... otherwise the cabs are still available on their own.)

Just bought Tim's TRB 6II, which I'm very pleased with. Very pleasant to buy from. He happily restrung the bass for me... can't fault him. Great!
Nice bass you've got here.... Is a deluxe sound as an american one or "better" ... ? If better I could think...
The deluxe is made in America with a pre-amp added. It also has a slightly smaller body and fancy abalone fretboard dots and I think it has rolled edges to the fretboard. I think they're generally finished a bit better. Hope this all make sense.
Hi I have an absolutely immaculate as new condition WARWICK Corvette 5 string. It is a German model top of the range with active electronics and MEP pickups (i.e.not budget standard or rockbass) It has a solid Bubinga body and a beautiful sound, I compared this against a few others at Music Live and it sonically outshone those non-Bubinga models. It has a deluxe gigbag, original tags etc. I bought it a couple of years back but it has stayed in it's bag as I discovered that I just don't get on with five strings. Would you consider exchange? Cheers Graham
Is this the one you have? http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~W...ing~ID~2065.asp Is it a 2 band EQ with bolt on neck? Also does your bass have 'MEC' or 'MEP' pickups?
