PA Systems

Hi, many thanks for your quick reply. I have the opportunity to buy a Peavey PA head XR684F. All the complete systems I have seen for sale pair this with a pair of Peavey PV-115 speakers which is handy as I have just bought a pair of these speakers, as new, for a song! My issue is, that everywhere I read up on this amp, the PA head is 400 watt (2x 200 watt) into 4 Ohm. But..... The PV-115 speakers are 8 Ohm.??? Why are the accepted matching speakers a different Ohm rating to the amp? Does this mean I wont get the 2x400 watts as the speakers are 8 and not 4 Ohm?

    PA Systems

Any of you guys also responsible for the PA system in your band? I always have been in the past and now, also, this time around. I have been looking on-line but dont seem to be able to track down a dedicated PA forum like I can a bass/guitar site. I am particularly interested in Peavey equipment so maybe there is a Peavey forum? Hoping someone can point me in the right direction..... Many thanks Kirk
  3. You're right Eric... they are nice pick up rings. What a cracking looking 'T'

    Pedal settings

Hi Guys, Was wondering what settings you use on Chorus and Flanger pedals? I know there are a number of different makes out there, but, apart from quality, I assume roughly the same sounds can be achieved, from the same four controls on any pedal? or am I wide of the mark? I was just wondering what settings can be used for different types of playing style and genre? In particular, I am trying to get my head around the Mick Karn sound and playing style. Many thanks in advance. Vicar

    Boss/Digitech/MXR

Hardwire don't appear, from their website, to do a BASS chorus or a flanger of any description.
  7. Hi. After some really good input from you guys on here about Behringer pedals I was wondering what feelings were about other makes? How do you rate Digitech? Better than Behringer but not as good as Boss? And what about MXR? The best, or overated and over priced? I am after a flanger or a chorus. Not sure if I should go new Behringer/Digitech or second-hand Boss/MXR. Confused :-(

    Behringer

Many thanks for all the input guys.

    Behringer
It certainly appears that many of the Behringer pedals are cheaper versions of other companies pedals (not just Boss---there are MXR and Line6 ones too, and probably more I've forgotten). Some of them are really great pedals, others are really terrible. Are there any in particular you are interested in?
yeah. the flanger and/or chorus

    Behringer

Excuse my ignorance as it has been 30 plus years since I was last "keeping it real on da street maaaaan" but are Behringer a cheap/noddy version of Boss as they seem to have the same range of effect pedals but at a fraction of the cost?.

    flanger/chorus

From your experience guys, would I be better of with a seperate flanger and chorus pedal (boss?) for greatest range, or less money on a flanger/chorus combined pedal? If so, what make n model. Cheers Vicar

I don't think they do a seperate one for the 130watt version Edit: So you've tried Ashdown's website. Are you sure there is a manual for the EB130. It looks like they do one manual to cover everything. The pre-amps are pretty similar
Manual now found. Thanks for the pointers.
  16.
Have you tried emailing Ashdown?
Not as yet because none of the pdf files on their site cover this.
  17. Hi, it's a bit of a long shot as I can't find anything on the internet, but, does anyone know where I can get an instruction/user manual for the Ashdown 130 combo?
  18. Here is a beaut' that I have just got from Flat Eric. Cant thank the guy enough............ This baby sounds as bright as she looks......... I'm well made up!
  19.
That's a nice looking T. Did it serve you well?
Yeah served me very well. Sold it back to the shop where I bought it from for the usual derisory amount they offer. Regret it now but seemed the right thing to do at the time.
  20. Hi all. I have a renewed interest in the T-40 thanks to posts and pics by Flat Eric. My name is Kirk Matthews and I was the founder member and bass player in the 1970's Punk Rock band "The Vicars" based on Canvey Island, Essex, England. I started off playing with a "Shaftesbury" Rick' copy, then had a Fender Precision and finshed up with the T-40. Sold it when I finished my playing days and went into management. How I regret that now!! http://www.myspace.com/vicarsthe 3 songs on the myspace site were recorded using the T-40. "Im Going Mad" (NOT the Alf version) "Simple Minded" and "Come Back" I was 19 years old and they were recorded in 1980. The bass can be seen in action here............. Scroll down to see my new bitch...........
  21. Have the possibility of a 2nd hand combo. The guy has both a Trace Elliot Boxer 30 or an Ashdown 130 that he may be willing to sell. Only going to be used at home as a practice amp. Not even sure yet what to offer him as second hand price. They have been in storage and not used for a year or more so hoping to get a bargain. Should I stick to the smaller cheaper TE Boxer 30 or would it be worth paying a bit extra for the Ashdown 130? Any idea on what to offer price wise? They are both in a well used condition. Not pretty! Thanks in advance. Vicar

    First thread
Hi! Welcome to the forum! The Cookes shop is just down the road from me.. you're not in Norwich per chance are you? I'm not really sure which of the two combos to go for, I'm sure we'll have some peeps who know these amps better than I. Just saw the Cookes website first! Good luck! I hope the reunion will relight that bass playing fire in you! Dood.
Hi Dood, Yeah, I'm from Swardeston, Norwich Kirk
  23. Hi, Hoping for a bit of advice. Not played for 25 years! Going to get together with some old band mates for some reunion gigs. With a budget of about 350-400 notes, what would be the best bet out of these two? http://www.cookes.co.uk/shop_details.asp?productID=1058 or http://www.soundcontrol.co.uk/mod_1/pages/....2.3.1-14-13993 I am going for a Fender P Bass as that is what I used to play before. Thanks for any help in advance. Kirk
