  1. There are some nitro rattle cans in the garage and awaiting news of fret finishing on one neck by a certain Mr. Shuker.    Will upload some Photo's including a story of ineptitude regards another neck so others can learn from this Muppets mistakes ;)  Nothing that can't be corrected with a bit of filler and matching headstock colour.

  2. So over three years later and desperate to get the herd fit for playing (or the market)..Might actually start pulling this together

This became one of four stalled projects

Quality celluloid (or part) pickguards are the missing link... Montreux one I got via Thomann was awful. Good sources anyone (not Spitfire £€¥$).

    Photo's soon (by my standards)

  3. Poor beast has sat far too long in corner of spare room, and I need to start practicing again !!!
Mine has the (far too lightweight) bass guitar machines (and one has failed) so after suggestions for either later units Jerry used or alternatives? Evil bay seller has some around £50 that look like improvement but looks can be deceiving :)
    Cheers

  4. Has anyone got first hand experience of B.Hefner Jazz Necks ? Or suggest alternative 7.25" Radius neck sources with sensible budget ? Anything from UK/EU ?

Considering ordering two as USPS rate is similar whether one or two.
First: Basic Rosewood over Maple (will pay extra for quarter sawn to add stability and nice grain?) 7.25" Radius, 6230 frets. Second: as first but maybe add binding. Though I like a nice rolled edge
Both for bodies with 9/16" vintage depth neck pockets. Could not bring myself to modify either to 5/8". Too nice !

Raw fretting only a reckon best to give that work to a local Luthier as part of set up. I'll happily do the varnishing once I get a new organic filter mask !!

    Cheers

  5. While figuring out how I would remove the washer that is trapped I added 1.5mm (3 washers) from a mixed Halfords pack and crossed my fingers, gritted my teeth and used a Ratchet (knowing I risked the Headstock end). Now a lovely action without any crap card shim, 0.3mm relief and just fret 19 is a highspot to sort :) ... Do not try this at home (with anything expensive especially) !

  6. I have a second hand Audiolab A8000 driving some original Mission 751 (not Freedoms) taking many a source. Pro-jet Debut II Turntable gets a mix of my old Queen and Level 42 vinyl along with growing collection of 70's Funk favourites. There's a NAS drive containing FLAC files, processed by a WDTV Box and a Cambridge Audio DAC. I still, and will buy CD's rather than downloads unless just after the odd track. Eventually I will get a decent streamer that can handle HQ internet radio as well as the FLAC files.
Like the fact my favourite albums get played on vinyl as a special, almost ceremonial treat.

  7. Nope :(
The Truss Nut came off fine, there's 5mm of thread inside unused so the Rod is not getting pulled through the anchor plate. There is a metal face (already a washer?) already in there and wonder if that is catching on the Rod threads holding it solid and unable to move forward or backward... oh and it is solid !
    Hmm !!!
